  1. It may hurt their recruiting, but it would sure help their offensive production. He is Horrible. He is worse than Randy Sanders
  2. apparently Coach Kiffen is sending UT hostesses out to Highschool games. The hostess is showing the recruits around campus and befriending them and getting to know them on a personal level and then showing up at Games with signs promoting UT. here is the link http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4727155 In other news...The old ball coach down at South Carolina is thinking " you cant spell slut without UT." In all seriousness though......If this is true, UT is in for a long, bumpy ride.
  3. Good luck Bluefield. Hope everyone has a safe trip to and from the game and gets to enjoy a huge celebration afterwards.
  4. Has this ever happened before? Im pulling for Lebanon just like everyone else is, but has anyone realized that if both Radford and Gretna win, it will be Brother vs Brother for the state title. Matt Saunders is the headcoach of the Radford Bobcats, while older brother Kevin Saunders is the headcoach of the Gretna Hawks. Like I said, Im pulling for lebanon, but if it does go the other way it would be unique circumstances.
  5. lol, We'll see how much you enjoy chasing Martinez Miles all day saturday. Let me know how you feel about that turf then. You do know that turf favors the team with more speed...right? And Burton has a HUGE speed advantage on Holston..not just Miles, but pretty much at every position. Holstons best chance was to get this game on grass and play it in poor weather conditions, then I believe they could have pulled the upset
  6. Here is the link. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/2009/11/30/2009-11-30_source_notre_dame_fires_head_coach_charlie_weis_.html
  7. Holston has very little seating and the field is pretty bad. Clintwoods field is one of the top 5 non turf fields in the area. It is very nice
  8. Burton wins this game by 3 td's 35-14. Miles will rush for alteast 150 if not 200 yards against Holston. Holston doesnt have anywhere near the team speed of Burton, especially with the game being played on Turf..
  9. Im saying within the next 2 years the streak will end. Our programs are going in diffrent directions. The attitude has changed at Battle, now its just going to take another year or 2 in the weightroom. The new coaching staff has brought a winning attitude to the program and it has rubbed off on the kids and community. I mean look... Witten has been around a winning program in Elizabethon all of his life and as for assistant coaches , we have 1 that played under Ralph Cummings at Clintwood, 1 that played under Tom Turner at Appalachia, 1 that played under Dean Rhea at Rural Retreat during their playoff runs in the 90's, and 1 that played for some of John Battles best teams in the 1980's. Its a staff that have always won that knows what it takes to win, and know how to do things the right way. The weight room that would sit empty 3 or 4 years ago every week from december to june will now have 60 or 70 kids working out every single day after thanksgiving break. All of those kids that used to play baseball only...now play football. Also, this is the first time that parents have really bought into the program and they're making a point to have their kids there every day. So give us another year or 2 because we are very young.... It'll be the birds sitting there hoping that Witten calls the dogs off early.......I have a hard time believing that he'll do abingdon any favors however. We can go on and on and on, but what good is it going to do. We both had bad seasons, and its time for the boys to hit the weightroom. My nephew plays for battle and I know that they're ready to get back to work. Like I said, The attitude and work ethic has changed.
  10. I've kept my nose out of the Abingdon Bashing...but SWD, im joining you starting right now. It did you all so much good. You have a team dominated by seniors, defeated our team which was starting 8 freshman....and ended up with same record as us...3-7.... and once again watching the playoffs from home. Im not sure you understand this, but the tide is turning. Within the next 2 seasons Battle will end that winning streak that abindon has going and start one of their own. Im the first to admit the battle program hasnt been very good, but while we're coming up and have alot of young talent in grades 7-10..... your program has been sinking fast. Do you see me on here predicting district championships, and running my mouth about how good my 3-7 football team is doing ALL the time??? no..... If abingdons players put in as much time in off season program as their fans spend running their mouths, They would be raising state championship banners every year. Unfortunatly....this is not the case. Coaches leaving, Talent level is dropping, numbers are dropping, # of wins of dropping, BUT the # of trash talking fans keep rising.... Im not sure how that works... Does anyone else on this board understand how this could happen? *anyone outside of abingdon I mean*
  11. Get ready for bumpy ride...its only going to get worse. If the coach leaves, Noone with any clue about southwest VA football will have that Abingdon job. The program has been on the decline in recent years and The program is controled by politics and parental influence. Mix that with the very tough district schedule and the job isnt very appealing at all.
  12. Im an outsider looking in, but If im richlands...You all can talk all you want to talk as long as racking up district championships.... I dont care if my players are from Richlands, Big Creek, Bluefield WV, LA california, Orlando Florida or whereever else in the world they're from. As long as they move to Richlands are are Eligible by VHSL rules then keep handing me the SWD title every year. You can talk about moral victories and this and that....but everyone is judged by 3 things.... Wins, Losses, and Championships You know.... People want to play for winning programs. I know of a kid whos dad played for maryville Tn a long time ago and after all of this recent sucess, moved his family from IOWA a few years ago so that he could play for that type of Program. Before anyone starts by saying Im from Battle and this and that....I am, but I've never complained about anything and I know that better days are ahead because of our youth and because those kids getting ready to bust in the weightroom in about 2 weeks. I dont have a horse in this race other than the fact that Everyone is always complaining about Richlands when in fact all that richlands does is win! Now I understand why everyone hates abingdon... They deserve everything they get on here
  13. Lebanons offense isnt very good. The Lebanon vs Battle Game was 14-0 at halftime and both Td's came off of luck plays. Both drives Battle had Lebanon on 3rd and 15 and 3rd and 18 situations and Lebanons QB throws a Jump ball on both plays and Lebanon came down with it both times.... One of the catches the reciever tipped the ball up in the air, and caught it while laying on the ground when the ball came down. The score was pretty much 21-0 because battle got everyone into the game in the 4th quarter and lebanon scored twice on the reserves which was alot of the seniors that dont play much. Lebanon has a great defense but the offense has a very hard time moving the football. The QB gets rattled very easy and the O-Line is below average for a lebanon O-line so the running game isnt as good as it was last season. They do have some tall , athletic recievers though. Kelly 14 Lebanon- 7
  14. The only interesting moments in this game will be between the opening kickoff and Gate City's first Touchdown. After that its all down hill for the Vikes. GC-49 PV-7
  15. I guess seeing UT light up the scoreboard is enough to get anyone fired. Maybe Phil Fulmer to Memphis?? The other 2 options are Tuberville and Terry Bowden.
  16. Phillip Fulmer. He has openly stated that he would like to coach again. This move wouldnt be all that bad for his family either. I suspect he will end up at UVA or Louisville. I cant think of any SEC jobs that will be available.

  18. If Hurley gets in the playoffs without winning district and keeps Appalachia out....the VHSL points system is a joke. Im not downing the Hurley players or school, Im sure they've worked hard and the players can not control who they play, they have to play the schedule given to them.... But Appalachia would dominate Hurley. Appalachia played with Gate city for a half, gave Burton a run for their money, and also gave Clintwood a very tough ball game. Its also the same Appalachia team who took Pound behind the woodshed 1 week after Pound gave Hurley a good ball game. IMHO though...hurley deserves to be in the playoffs but not over Appalachia. They should get to take the place of any cumberland district team who qualifies. Hurley would go undefeated in that district
  19. Honaker by 30+ Maybe Im wrong though, we'll have to wait and see. Good luck to both teams
  20. I dont believe 23 straight district losses should be mentioned once in practice this week. Thats alot of weight to put on those kids....alot of weight that they're not responsible for. This 2009 team is not responsible for what happened in 2006, 2007, 2008 or any years before that, good or bad. I wouldnt want that kind of pressure being put on this group of kids. I would make the Monday practice a fun one.. Find creative ways to let the kids have fun, but still get something out of it. Compete against each other in events, but get your conditioning in while doing it. As much as I wouldnt mention all of the past losses to the players, coaches cant control what players hear once they go home at night. So I would start the week off by getting them to compete but have alot of fun at the same time. On tuesday and Wednesday I would prepare for the upcoming game by working on all 3 phases of the game *offense, defense, special teams* and have a very detailed walk through on thursday. I believe by letting them have alot of fun on Monday, the team would be loose all week, and play loose during the game.
  21. the BDD comes down to Honaker vs Haysi.....AGAIN. Honaker is your BDD champions. Hurley and Haysi will be watching Burton, Clintwood, Appalachia and whoever comes out of the cumberland district.
  22. Actually, Abingdon and Battle both wanted end the series before this season. They had actually gotten it done and then the school board stuck their noses where it doesnt belong. They want ALL washington County schools to play each other and coaches have no choice but to do so. Thats why Abingdon and Holston will start playing next season. Thats also why abingdon had to play AT battle for the 2nd year in a row. The existing contract was destroyed and when the school board made them renew the contract, it forced abingdon to play at battle again. So instead of blacksburg, Tn. High and those other schools....You're forever stuck with Holston, PH, and Battle from now on.
  23. The cats have to much speed for your Falcons. Virginia High-35 Abingdon-24
  24. No, they would still be Single A division 2
  25. An 0-10 season at Graham should get the coach FIRED.... The entire staff should be replaced. To much history and tradition at the school for that to happen.
