For those of you that are interested in this kind of thing. Graham has won 33 regular season games in a row. The last time they lost? 2019. September. Week 4. Mitchell Stadium. Against Union This Friday 2023. September. Week 4. Mitchell Stadium. Against Union That being said. To be the man you gotta beat the man. Graham wins 17-13

Let's not forget. Clements is still out. He obviously makes this team much better on offense. When he comes back I think they have one of the most lethal offenses in the state. They aren't just throwing deep bombs anymore. They spread it around really well. They have Daniel Jennings who will complement Clements really well. We'll see if Clements gives it a go next week.

Looks like the Graham Union game could be a good one here in a couple weeks, which probably isn't a shocker to anyone. I think Graham showed a lot tonight in how they dominated this game. Roberts looked better. Edwards looks good. Daniel Jennings is only a sophomore and has all the potential in the world. If Clements can come back in a week or two that's just an added weapon. Galax really battled with Glenvar last week. Not so much tonight.

Richlands freshman Jack Clem won the region yesterday. I haven't seen or heard anything from the girls but I expect Parker White from Marion to have won yesterday's region as well.
-
This Jack Clem kid from Richlands is ultra talented!! He's only a freshman and ran through the SWD very easily. It's not a matter of when but a matter of how many state championships he'll win. If he manages to get it this year he'll win state 4 years.

Any kind of news for our area? Who are the favorites as we're just a week from district play? I know Graham girls are undefeated for the year. Anybody had a chance to see them play? I think Virginia High is leading the boys side with a few stud players from what I've heard. Anything else?

Any information on anything tennis related? I figured I'd try again. Not much love for tennis anymore.

Changes In High School Basketball...........
-oo- replied to BlueDevil4Life2008's topic in SWVA Basketball
Every state needs to adopt a 35 second shot clock for high school basketball. I think it's a no brainer. Prevents teams from stalling the game at the 6 minute mark. Speeds up the game. Way more exciting games. Allows coaches to actually coach in those close games too. I read about a game sometime this past season and the final score was like 12-4 because one team just played four corners. How does that benefit anyone in high school sports? -
I'd throw the flying V at them. The annexation of Puerto Rico. The Philly special. The fumblerooski. The statue of liberty. Unfortunately none of those are basketball plays. But hey, throw it at em. On a side note. If you make it to the championship game then you are THE state champs in my mind. I don't care what the record books say.

I remember the Graham/Beaver game. Maybe around 2009-2010. Craig Ponder for Bluefield dropped about 40 or 50 I believe. I believe it went to double OT. Might be the last time, or close to it, Graham beat Bluefield in basketball.

I still have a picture of the line for that game. 3 hours before tipoff and the line stretched all the way to the main road. It was unbelievable. 1 hour before tipoff there wasn't any seat available in the gym.

I have a few questions since I just don't know 100% of the facts. 1. What allows John Marshall to do this? Is there something different about the type of school they are from other public schools in Virginia? 2. Is there anything preventing other schools from doing this? 3. What's the legality of all of it? Is it actually "illegal" and the VHSL just turns a blind eye to it all? 4. What if a school from this area wanted to do this. What would that school need? Money for housing? Do parents need to move? Recruiting coordinator? 5. Is there anything preventing a school from SWVA to have those things? Do you need to have sponsors/parents/fans put money up for this to happen? 6. If there is nothing preventing other VHSL teams from doing this then Is it simply that people/coaches/schools want to keep it in house? Develop and grow people from SWVA instead of recruit out of state kids? Do school boards, administrators play a role in not allowing other schools/coaches/teams to do this? Would it be too much of a headache? Does the community simply want to keep it traditional? I completely agree that there is no need for a team of this caliber to compete in 2a. It prevents opportunities for our area to go and get a championship. I'm kind of shocked that other schools aren't saying to themselves in football, basketball, soccer, baseball, etc. that if John Marshall can do it then we can to. We all know there is some level of recruiting all over the country in high school sports but I know a lot of people have adopted a "win at all costs" mentality so why don't we see more schools doing this?

Saw where she put up like 23 and 12 on Wise Central and 39 and 18 or something against JI Burton. She'll have multiple 40 point games the next few years.
