Not sure, but usually when a youth program does so well, it has a lot to do with the fact that they are playing each other, which is very deceiving and can lead to visions of grandeur from parents and a false sense of enthusiasm.

The Lee youth program I am speaking of plays teams like Kingsport, Johnson City, Gate City, Haysi, Clintwood and more.

Lee high head coaches all seem to have 4 year stints which mirrors the elections. Its year 3 I believe.

I personally like the change to the bone if you ask me, but I've not watch a lee high game in its entirety since they played TWHS so I'm on the outside looking in.

I see good things in the future at Lee. They have some of the best support I have ever seen in their youth football teams. It shows as well. They have great numbers and great attitudes. Not sure how much the Lee head coach has to do with it but Lee looks to be on their way up in the near future.

Is it me, or has this become a yearly tradition?

GC has historically never played well at Lee.  I say Lee in the neighborhood of 41-25.

They made it to Marion in time to play two songs before the game from the stands.

  4. GC that showed up in the 2nd half at Marion shows up it will be a close game. If it's the GC from the first half then Lee wins easily. Hopefully the band bus don't break down this week and the band gets to play on the field.

Ain't no way. GC has trouble scoring 13 points a game. I say Marion 28 GC 13.

Hopefully next season we get Calhoun back at the fb position where he is needed running out of the T.

  6. Also speaking of support of little league. The GC Junior Devils traveled to Lee yesterday. Lee is supporting their youth teams from top to bottom. Lee High School treats those kids the same as they do the high school team. They inflate the helmet for them to run out of while the cannon blasts. Even after each TD the cannon goes off. The community seems to be behind them all the way as well. It shows as well. The 3 teams they field can easily field 6 teams with the numbers they have. I really enjoyed my trip over to Lee yesterday. That is the support that not only we need at GC but other youth teams need as well.

Is this because they think football is dangerous or the overall direction of the program from LL to varsity?

    Or something else?

And keep hanging in there. It takes people like you to volunteer their time for any program to work, football or otherwise.

It's risk of injury. Mostly mothers making that decision.

I don't volunteer as much as I should. I don't go out and actively recruit the players but when speaking with parents that have little league age kids I try to talk them into letting them play. For the ones that live close to me I even offer to give them rides to practice.

Grapeape and Jason are both correct in their observations.  Both want better.  Both see truth.  If we could get those two together and run for school board and then we could get something done....not just talking football either.   Anybody not from gc really understands how bad it is.

I like the board member in my district. I do plan on being active in next years school board elections. A couple things need to be done at the high school that are not sport related in my opinion. Just hope we can get someone worth running in some of the other districts.
