Congratulations to Lykel Collier and Anthony Eades for First Team, Michael Yost for Captain of Third team and D J Edwards and Corey Coppola for Honorable Mention. Thats quite an accomplisment for the entire starting five to be named to the All State team.

Congrats to the Beavers. This is a special group of young men. They worked hard to achieve their goal of a championship and they earned it. Again congrats and good luck next year.

They are trying to ban Pit Bulls. Not pistols

Gate City is at home this year again. This is the first year in a new two year contract and they could not have over 5 home games so we will play them away next year.

Its an ankle sprain. He should be available for regional game assuming Bluefield wins the Section.

Bluefield had its first regional champion in school history in wrestling. Congrats to Julius Thomas. They also had a total of 5 qualify for the state tourney. Since its inception, the Beavers have had state qualifiers every year. Congrats to Coach Rooney on a great season and good luck in the tourney.

The three players that"transferred" to east had 54 of their 65 points.

The beavers had a terrible night of shooting. They had open looks just couldn't knock them down. These are 16 and 17 year old kids, there are gonna be those nights. I actually think the big guys for Bluefield held their own last night. Coppola had 18 points and actually outscored the 6-10 center. Edwards before last night has been playing extremely well. They've got a tough week coming up with Scott, Oak Hill, Wyoming East and Princeton. If nothing else they should be battle tested

The game will be played at the Armory. JV starts at 5:30, Varsity at 7:30

Thoughts, predictions? I think this will be a good game and come down to the wire. Princeton is much improved and have some kids that can shoot lights out. If Bluefield doesn't step up and play defense from end to end could be a long night for the Beavers. Should be a big crowd so get there early. Good luck to both teams.

The Beavers open the season with a win over the Panthers. Eades led the Beavers with 18, Yost had 14 and Collier had 12. The starters for bluefield only played 3 quarters. Bluefield looked a little sloppy at times but their defense seems improved from last year. Bring on the G-men on Friday.

Congrats to Craig. Excellent kid great game for him. Hope this is a break out game for him. Best of luck the rest of the year.

Congrats to Jake Lilly for being name the WVIAC defensive player of the year. He was fourth nationally in tackles per game in Division II. Quite an accomplishment for a former Beaver. Jake is just a Junior at Concord and I'm looking forward to watching him perform in his senior year. Congrats also goes out to Concord wideout and former Beaver, Ansel Ponder for being named to the first team WVIAC.

Montel Leggett is a Junior. As is all of the skill positions except for Johnny David, he is a senior and DJ Stewart, he is a sophomore

The Beavers and the Blue Tornado have signed a two year contract starting next season. The first game will be at Mitchell in week 5. They're taking Latins place on the schedule with Gate City moving to week 4. This will be great for area fans. Hope it can continue for many years.

I was really impressed by the beavers tonight. That was the most physical team I've seen in a few years at bluefield. They were impressive tonight. If they play like they did tonight, they will be a tough out for anyone in WV AA

Congrats to coach Fred Simon for getting his 200th victory last night with a 54 to 19 win over Greenbrier East. Great win for a great coach.

Coppola and Green were declared ineligible due to not having their required 14 practices. Somone called the WVSSAC and reminded them of the rule. The SSAC ruled the boys eligible on Monday and then did a 180 and said that they would have to have their 14 practices. Coppola was rued eligible on Monday and Green last week. When the Beavers take the field in two weeks against Greenbrier East, they will be playing. No more dealing with eligibility issues.

Both are playing this week. Should be a great game. If Bluefield can handle the big boys up front from Princeton, they should get the win. If not, could be a long night. Hopefully they will come out fired up and get the "W"

Someone wrote a letter to the WVSSAC saying that Cory's family had not moved and that his dad was a coach. Cory moved to the WV side and legal custody was transferred to his grand-dad. The SSAC ruled that the only way that could happen is if the DHHR removed a child from the home which in this case did not. As for his dad being a coach, he is a volunteer not a paid coach. He has a full time job and helps out when he can only as a volunteer.

Shady scrimmage is Friday August 17 at Mitchell Stadium. JV starts at 5
