Bruce Waynick can't be on the All Region D Team because he wasn't voted as one of the Top 5 players in the Black Diamond District. Only the Top 5 People are eligible to go on to All Region and only the top 5 from the All Region are eligible for All State.....

And that Rye Cove team was beat by Black Diamond District's own Garden Green Dragons (R.I.P) and then we got obliterated by the last decent team Pound ever fielded in athletics. I'd say without a doubt the Cumberland is the worst district in organized sports in VA hands down. And good in basketball? Twin Springs wins the district every year with an exchange student or NE TN transfer. Think of it like this St. Paul, and Castlewood are down and may consolidate teams b/c the kids from St. Paul are going to go to C-wood b4 they do anywhere else. Coeburn and Ervinton? Michael Paul's doing a good job at Rye Cove but they've been down in boys sports.... Thomas Walkers been decent the past few years but my god that gives Twin Springs 10 or 12 wins right there a year playing in that district. If Richlands and Tazewell drop to single A in two years I think Council and Twin Valley should petition to go to the Cumberland lol...

Lance Bass are you talking about the VA High game where they didn't have Tyler Super Cooper and they got beat? Cause if they don't have Tyler they couldn't D up. And against Twin Springs if they have a 6'8 guy I'd say they have to defend inside the paint before they defend the foul line in that situation.... I'm not saying your wrong, just saying why I think that is....

All I'm saying is if you're flying the Rebel flag on your way to VCU haha I wouldn't sit in the same bus seat as the window that has the Flag, it's liable to get shot amungst the 20 or so pawn shops and liquor stores that frequent the streets..... Twin Valley didn't lose back to back years to East Mont. They Lost in 08 to Nelson County. I remember the Garden game b/c Twin Springs Red Army ran out on the court and Shawn Hale hit a shot to give Garden an lead b4 TS eventually won it. I was about 9ish at the time maybe that's why I still hate the Red Army over the years.

They aren't weak in defendnig the foul line. Eastmont only runs 1 or 2 sets of offense. They put their big man there to pull Waynick out from under the goal so Wooten 5, Julian 21, and 2 could drive in to the basket without getting blocked because they were just trying to get to the basket. Although 2 and Wooten hit some big shots they couldn't hit consistently enough to make a D. I couldn't believe Hurley played man, and Eastmont played zone and junk (Triangle 2) I guess someone had them spooked bout Coopers and Waynick but man they should be 3 tough athletes... Just thought that Charles, Allen, and Brown couldn't handle the pressure, Brown held it at the foul line for a minute without even once getting a 5 second count started. Hurley did a great job gameplanning ane executing. Got the ball into the playmakers hands despite Peck and Allen hit all but I think 2 foul shots.... played solid D on Wooten's game winner attempt. Thursday 1 if they win Friday at 3:45 I believe...... I'll take Hurley and 10 points.

Imagine if the state was watered down like it is now. With 12 state champions 2 for A Boys 2 for A girls, AA, AAA etc..... Hurley went in 1992 and I think they finished like either last or fourth in the district won the tournament and went on a roll. Hope Hurley can play well and win it... looks good for the District and the Region.

In a 2-3 you don't... "let them shoot on you" you contest the shot box out and rebound well. Hurley has some athletes and cover the floor well. Give Cooper some credit, he'll have the match ups he wants know who the shooters are sag off on the non shooters. If I'm not mistaken I think East Mont's played 1 time at VA High seems like it was vs Applachia? VA High's not a shooters gym, teams struggle over there because there's nothing behind the goals to judge the depth on and teams struggle usually playing there for the first few times. I will tell you the Point Guard from East Mont # 5 I think he was played against TV as a sophomore and doubled Garret Horne one of the better PG's to come through in a long time and made him give it up and wouldn't let him get it back @ Richmond that kat can ball..... I think he was All State receiver this year for East Mont..... All I'm saying is the Region D covers the points if you are giving Region D and 10 points........ Hurley I think will win, Twin Springs can win......

PH, Battle, Abingdon, VA High unrealistic expectations, and nothing you ever do is going to satisfy the critics. If you don't play the Dr, Lawyer, Indian Chiefs sons, they have a golf partner at the Country Club who is a friend of a friend on the school board. It's a coaching grave yard over there just tarnishing people's reputations and records man..... Smart $ would be one of those schools with athletes get Matlock from Holston.

I think you don't know your butt from a hole in the ground about basketball is what I think. Don't be surprised if both teams from the Region D win. Galax and East Mont have athletes. Aslong as Hurley and Twin Springs don't try to get in a running game with them, they'll be fine aslong as they 1. have more defensive rebounds, than east mont and galax have offensive rebounds, and 2. They get back on D after the shot. It's a combination of 2 things that East of Roanoke are hard for people to fathom... it's called a 2-3 defense you know one that makes athletes have to shoot over the top of kids who know how to play it. Not track meet 90% making layups, getting fouled in transition and getting to the line..... AND how about a 6'8 kat that can just hang around the basket and throw out those layups and easy shots that everyone is so used to getting. If you haven't ran any half court offense all year, you get impatient. You waste timeouts trying to set up plays to run against zone, which only work a handful of times b/c the defense figures out your 1 to 3 set plays vs a zone, then you have to run a set and let people try to make plays. I just think Eastmont and Galax fire up alot of three's and bad shots that get altered b/c Waynick and the Brazilian kid... aslong as it isn't Carnival in South America right now TS should be fine. Every one of the 4 times teams I've been involved with went to state it's been like this. Council beat Radford @ Radford # 1 team in the state, and TV should have beat Nelson County, and East Mont. And did beat Galax, and East Mont to get to Richmond Athletes can't run half court offense vs a zone or junk defense, or even man with a game plan of helping off on who are the role players and taking away the best scoring threats they have..... Hurley and TS have had a week to game plan.... If Peck can handle the heat Hurley will go to the show in my opinion just that simple. Bottom line is Campbell from TS, and Ty. Cooper from Hurley are really good players, and if I were starting a team from the BDD, I'd take Austin Cooper with the first pick cause he does it all, not that Tyler isn't a great scorer, b/c pure scorer he's probably the best scorer in the Region D. But ball player doing it all I'll take Austin. Maybe they won't win, but I'll take the Reg. D and 10 points, but I think that both teams in all likelyhood win this week.

Lets just hope that the Rebel fans can recover from Friday night to get to VA High by 2 o clock on Saturday! lol Good Luck to the Rebals

No that wasn't a cheap shot. Lloyd Wallace Combs aka L. Dubs is timeless classic in Buch co and the mountaineer... I guess if it wasn't for Lloyd's sports contributions I'd just read the Voice lol. I just like giving Lloyd a hard tmie but he's always a state tournament trip and a hospitality room away.

I was hoping Hurley would have either the last game, this game, or both at the Elementary/Middle School and pack in the Hurley faithful in the big boy gym instead of the High School where it doesn't seat many, and it get hotter than a hootchie momma from Poppaw or G. I was impressed I thought they played better than they did @ Hurley against Twin Valley and that was a 27 point beatdown.....
