  1. we will gladly keep the COACH and ditch the ANNOUNCER!
  2. Halftime in Roanoke ... Cave Spring 27 Hidden Valley 13
  3. Graham up early, and quickly, on Narrows ... 6-0! Go G-Men!
  4. Good luck to all the area teams as well! I especially hope that both Bluefield schools win and make the playoffs. Go G-Men! Go Beavers!
  5. Jonesville won state in 1989. The same year four state champs came from Southwest Virginia .... Jonesville D1, Powell Valley D2, Graham D3, and Blacksburg D4. The same year Graham beat Blacksburg in the regular season.
  6. someone else is complaining about these teams ... ME! as posted here before-do not blame the VHSL. The schools belonging to Region 4 came up with the "all inclusive" plan. Hopefully, some day, they will huddle back up and make the much needed change back to 4 playoff teams instead of 6. Until then, just endure the format and someday a #6 seed will finally upset a #1 seed and then there will be more fuel for the fire.
  7. I say that Bluefield wins this game in a close one! I cannot imagine the WV playoffs starting without a Beaver team right in the mix of things. Good luck to both Bluefield teams this week! My take on these two: Bluefield 20 Wayne 16 Graham 30 Narrows 7
  8. The City of Roanoke did indeed finally demolish Victory Stadium after a much heated political debate. Victory Stadium was a great facility in its day with a capacity of 25,000. Unfortunately, after years of neglect it became a liability and nothing to look at. The City built very nice campus facilities for both Patrick Henry and William Fleming. The PH field can accommodate 3,000 fans while the Fleming field can host up to 5,000. Bogle Field is a pretty nice and well maintained facility that serves as the home filed for both Cave Spring and Hidden Valley. The Cave-Hidden Valley is indeed a fierce rivalry here in the Roanoke Valley. Obviously, it is on a much smaller scale than the Bluefield-Graham game but interesting how a neighborhood street divides the enrollments of each school. Students living in the same neighborhood can go to a different school than their neighbors and thus the rivalry was created. Knowing that Cave Spring has very much at stake in this game don't expect the Knights not to be ready. Look for this one to be close early on but I see Cave Spring exploding in the second half. Having seen Richlands, Cave Spring, and Hidden Valley play this year my gut .... and my heart (Southwest Virginia ties) ... has the Blues headed to the state semi-finals once again. No hangover here .... Cave Spring wins this one!
  9. Congrats to the G-Men! I was in Bluefield this past weekend and was thrilled to hear all the enthusiasm from my friends on the Virginia side. These folks are psyched up and know that foundation has been set with the recent success of the middle school team. It is great knowing that the G-Men have a chance to make the playoffs despite the past few years. There is much excitement referencing the new coach and the new possibilities that are in the future. Hopefully, Graham will take care of business this week against Narrows and then use the playoff experience to "turn a few more heads!" Even if Graham does not win in the first round of the playoffs, it is nice to see that the school, the team, and the community are returning to that old familiar GRAHAM PRIDE. Hats off to the G-Men on the upset win over Fort Chiswell, and congrats on a very surprising and successful season! Some of us have never given up on you. Indeed, the future is bright on the Virginia side.
  10. Robert Anderson (Roanoke Times-Oct. 28) did predict Fort Chiswell to win this game; however, he does state for readers/fans not to expect Graham to be "down and out" for long! Words of encouragement for the G-Men from the Roanoke Valley!
  11. Well said ... and I truly hope, and believe, that great things are beginning to happen for Graham football! I sure would like to see the G-Men make the playoffs. I think this would provide much needed momentum for the coming years.
  12. just a guess here .... but it looks as if Grayson County came into this game thinking "easy win" and taking Fort Chiswell much too lightly. Actually, I would have liked to have seen Fort Chiswell win this game after playing so hard. This has me concerned for Graham's chances of winning now. Any thoughts?
  13. and it will not be a minute too soon!
  14. Congrats to the GMS G-Men! Indeed a bright future for the Virginia side folks.
