  1. Don't know why you guys respond to these two "kids". It is obvious they are just making posts to generate responses. Best to not feed the animals............
  2. I grew up playing Little League, played in 8th grade (didn't have a Middle School then), and played in High School, AND I have watched us play this year (and every year for the past 30 years). I think I am a little qualified to give my comments. "They start in little league with little runs up the middle and around the tackles" Sounds like a very sound and logical approach to teaching the game of football to kids. BTW, where else would you run the ball besides up the middle and around the tackles? "it just gets a little more complex in middle school," Again...that sounds like a very well planned approach. What else should they be doing? BTW, don't we generally have a very successful Middle School program? "Sort of like Math you could say." Well.........if you mean learn simpler things first, and then build on them......that sounds like a great plan! "Every team we have has athletes that can catch, but it doesn't matter" I'll agree with you here. We very seldom have many speedsters, but always have kids who can catch. We generally throw the ball sparingly...which does make our passing game more effective. I BELIEVE the problem so far this year has been pass protection. Now we have played some really good teams, but our QB has had to really scramble to even get off most of his pass attempts. I HOPE that will start to change this week. Lebanon will be, by far, the weakest team we have faced. No disrespect to Lebanon. It is just the truth. I'll be real surprised if we don't attempt at least 15 passes. We might even dust off those old screen plays from the past. Essentially a lot of the complaints are "we are doing the same old thing we have always done". If you mean teach kids the game of football, build on their football knowledge, help teach them about being part of a team, and be part of one of the most successful football programs in the state of Virginia, then I say keep doing it. BTW gcdevils47, not trying to pick on you. It just really frustrates me that people get on this message board and lay out the coaches. The same coaches they were probably praising last year.
  3. It's amazing. Last year the play calling against Gretna in the championship game was brilliant. This year the play calling is costing us games. Same coaches. Amazing. Completely different team we have this year. Completely different strengths and weaknesses. Remember, you dance with what you brought. (For you Abingdon fans, that means you have to call plays based on your team's strengths and weaknesses.) Don't forget that we have played some pretty tough teams. Richlands. Current record 3-0. Average score 31-18. Harlan County. Current record 3-0. Average score 44-9. #8 ranked team in KY. Sullivan South. Current record 1-2. Averaging 44 points/game. I don't think a local team has played a tougher schedule. Why don't you fans who have a problem with the play calling, call the coaches and schedule a meeting with them to discuss your ideas? That would be more productive, and way less cowardly, than "bad-mouthing" coaches on the internet.
  4. 1970 - 2010: #2 Powell Valley #6 Gate City #18 Clintwood #33 Richlands
  5. Curious. Did the birdie happen to say which team?
  6. "You would like to see officials call a Technical on a Coach for coaching outside the coaching box. How often do you see a coach outside his box during a game?" But you see, the official just has to make that call ONE time. You call it once and the coach learns.
  7. Like it has been pointed out, the game should be about the kids. BUT, it is not fair TO THE KIDS if the game is not called correctly. The kids should not have to play 10 minutes of a basketball game to find out what is going to be called or not. This brings me to another pet peeve of mine. The strike zone. Umpires should NOT have their own customized strike zone. Call the strike zone like it is written. Again, not fair to the kids to have to wonder what is going to be a strike or ball.
  8. I don't know. Neither do you. Neither does the person who posted the description of the pictures. Well, at least I don't think he knows that is why I asked him. My question was if the fact they were "seized" should mean anything. I don't know. Would the police have "seized" them, after looking at them, if they were just of the football team? Not an accusation. A question.
  9. I would hate it for my son, my brother, or myself. I would also prefer that it not be discussed. BUT, it would have been my son's, my brother's, or my fault for putting myself in the condition where my private life became a matter of public record. "And if the school has not fired this man, shouldn't we give that some consideration?' You seem like an intelligent person. No doubt you realize how hard it is to terminate someone from employment. Especially if they are employed by any level of government. "But until then I will stand for this man's right to be innocent until proven guilty." That is exactly how it should be, but the discussion on this board can NOT establish his guilt or innocence. He IS still innocent until proven guilty no matter what is written on this board. Right?
  10. "The pics on the phone were of the team and events that the football program had." ALL of them? If so, how do you know? Isn't there a difference between the police looking at those pictues and seizing them?
  11. I have no doubt that he would prefer these topics not be discussed. BUT, we also need to remember that HE himself MAY have put his reputation & livelihood at stake. The DUIs are public knowledge and are certainly open for public debate. His other possible "issue" has also been conveyed through many different media outlets. It's not like these things originated on this board. I do agree that the man obviously deserves his day in court, but public discussion of public events have always been acceptable.
  12. Thankfully, we can't decide anything. ;) Just some good natured (mostly) banter going on here.
  13. I never said hang him. BUT, he should face some consequences. If this is his second DUI, then we are not talking about making a one time mistake. We are talking about a guy who probably has a serious problem. We are also talking about a guy who is in a position of authority over children. If it also true that "Investigators seized 211 digital photographs from a Nokia phone.", then he has some other serious issues to deal with. Pro tip: they don't seize landscape pictures from a phone.
  14. I can't believe some of you guys are defending the DUI. Isn't it his second DUI? People in a position of authority over children SHOULD be held to a higher standard. I also can't believe how some of you guys have "sources" (who happen to be wrong) and are making all of these predictions.
  15. Apparently your source is wrong. According to the Kingsport Times-News, the case has been put on "hold" because of a "lack of cooperation from the alleged victim and her family". The article also says "the case will remain open and active". That is a far cry from "being cleared of all charges".
  16. Isn't "think in Falconland" an oxymoron?
  17. The rumor I heard was that Abingdon WANTED to move down a classification as soon as possible. Something about getting in a district with a good geographic fit and not having the VHSL mandate a district.
  18. $14.99 I think this fee will let you watch all the championship games.
  19. Gate City has fielded some pretty good teams as well. I believe the 1970 state champion team had seven shut outs during the year. The 1974 team destroyed people. Powell Valley has also produced some good teams. It is just so hard to even guess as to what has been the best team in SW VA.
  20. I can't be at the game, but I believe that GC will win if they can get the first 10 points on the board. That will allow us to use our size and RBs to keep the Radford O off the filed. This will wear down the Radford D and we should be able to put up a couple of TDs later in the game. If we get down by more than 10 before we score, I'd give the nod to Radford. We would be forced to throw the ball a little bit too much.
  21. Speaking of Gate City, will anyone play a harder out of conference schedule next year? @ Richlands (undefeated and still playing) Harlan County (just a 5A Kentucky team that was region champs this year) @ Sullivan South (a 5A Tennessee school) Bluefield (finished 11-2 this year and lost in state semi-finals) @ Powell Valley (not a good year this year, but normally pretty stout) @ Clintwood (undefeated and still playing) Those 6 schools had a combined record of 59-16 this year. All 6 teams made the playoffs, 4 were region champs, and 2 teams are still playing. Nice!
