  2. Cleveland HS Twitter: Amazing atmosphere for our Blue Raiders to compete in tonight! Thank you Gate City for welcoming us and hosting a battle between our teams until the end! Best of luck as you finish the regular season and hope you go far into the tournament.
  3. McClung 39, Ervin 22, Dean 13, Sharpe 2, George 2, Vermillion 2, & Compton 2 Score by quarters: GC 23 39 60 82 Cleveland 31 42 60 72 At one point in the second quarter, GC was down by 17 points. Defensive & rebounding efforts intensified. Great win tonight against a very athletic Cleveland team. GC has gone 2-1 in games against North Carolina's #1 ranked team, Kentucky's #2 ranked team, and Tennessee's 4th ranked AAA team.

  6. Not sure why, but the two worst games I have seen us play have been at UVA - Wise. So far..........we have not shot the bell very well there, and not played well there. May not bode well for down the road. I am in the stands thinking..........we are up 21-6 after the first quarter and Union is packing in that 3-2 zone. Hell......hold the ball just past half court and force them out of that zone. If they stay in it, just hang out and let the clock run. Made no sense to try and force shots.......especially when most of them were not falling. A part of our game is driving to the basket, getting fouled, and hitting our free throws. Did not happen last night. I had to leave with about 3 minutes to go in the game. Union had just been called for their second foul of the entire game. NOT blaming anything on the officials. We should have done a better job of taking the ball to the basket.
  7. Was a great Arby's experience for GC. We go 3-1 in the tournament. Great effort in a 16 point loss to North Mecklenburg........the #1 ranked team in North Carolina. Demolished Tennessee High by 36. Great 3 point win against Fern Creek.....the #2 ranked team in Kentucky (read that online. assume it is true.). Played a great game today in a 12 point win against Lakota East from Ohio. Lakota was a very physical, athletic team who played a tight man-to-man defense. Showed us things that we need to work on.
  8. Yeah..........if you had told me it was going to be a 7 point game with 6 minutes to go, I would have taken it in a heartbeat. Meck is a good team. Not the best matchup for us. We are going to have issues against teams that pound the boards. Looks like George and Sharpe will determine our rebounding future. Hopefully Meck will be the best team we play this year. Kind of worried about a letdown against Tennessee High tomorrow. Team did not play as well as they could have. Have some kids a little down about their performances, it is an early morning game, and we are playing a team on their home court. All the ingredients to lay an egg. According to the Kingsport Times-News, Mecklenburg outrebounded us 40-18. Includes 14 offensive rebounds that they turned into 21 points. Mac: "......I didn't control the game and I take the blame on that. I've got to set the tone, and that's on me." Zac: "We had entirely too many turnovers and got outrebounded badly, and that's on me. I'm the biggest guy on the team and I've got to take more of that load. I did a poor job of that tonight." Meck Coach Lewis: "Those two guys can really play. They are as good as it gets. Gate City, Charlotte, New York City, those guys can play anywhere. And they compete and play hard. They are intense and get after it, and you appreciate players like that."
  9. Was a 7 point deficit with 3 minutes left in the game. Shots would just not fall. Need to work on rebounding.
  10. I waited in line over an hour. Gave up.
  11. Can't remember how badly Central beat GC. Guess 14 is pretty close. We then went and played a good team (Daniel Boone) from a larger school........and lost 16-74. So yeah.....there can be huge differences among the classifications.
  12. Great atmosphere last night. However, had to be the hottest gym I have ever been in. Friday will be a great test. We are going to have to be able to handle teams that have a big man or two. Impressed with the Boone student section. More impressed with the way our guys seemed to not let them get under their skin.
  13. Honestly..........it was not even that close. Score was 26-15 after 1 quarter, 51-19 at halftime, and 75-28 after 3 quarters. 4th quarter was a running clock, and GC sat the starters.
  14. ..............and now a little exposure on USA Today. http://usatodayhss.com/2017/georgetown-hoops-signee-mac-mcclung-turned-a-regular-season-win-into-a-dunk-contest

  16. GC was very lethargic, and did not shoot the ball well. VA High is not very good.
  17. McClung 39, Ervin 24, Dean 12, Sharpe 4, Noe 2, Vermillion 3, and George 1.
  18. It is my understanding that GCHS is making preparations to project the home games on a wall in the cafeteria. Is a possibility that once the gym starts nearing the capacity of 1,200 (I believe) that people entering the building will be told that there may not be a seat for them, and that they may have to watch the game in the cafeteria. Be early. Real early. Is going to be a circus.
