  1. Saw on Facebook that Battle will host a scrimmage (maybe a mini jamboree or something) with JI Burton and Sullivan Central on August 16 and then travel to Fort Chiswell on August 23 for their benefit game.
  2. There's about a million recipe books just stuffed in corners here and there at my house that my parents have collected over the years (but they really only make a fraction of them, just the ones they memorized). I've been thinking for a while of going through them all and asking my parents, grandparents, and others in my family for their recipes, then organizing them all on my computer...just so I'll have them. My dad has several really good recipes where many people in his family love to cook and where he cooked in the army, but the one recipe I really want above all is my great aunt's caramel cake recipe. It's the only cake my grandfather would have on his birthday each year and since he passed some years ago, I've been having her make it for me every few years for my birthday.
  3. Why in the world is Burton ranked so high? I mean, they've had a tough program over the years and I could see them that high or even better in years past, but not now.
  4. I haven't seen the rankings, but what about Fort Chiswell? They dropped and will be 1A.
  5. I know it's football time, but I just saw some news about the Bulls getting rid of some players and picking up new guys. Only reason I'm bringing this up on here is that I know there's some Bulls fans on here and with the team having so much potential the last few years, but not quite making it for one reason or another, I thought this was interesting. Apparently, the Bulls let go Robinson, Hamilton, Belinelli, and Thomas and have spent all summer working out Deng's contract to keep him and picked up Mike Dunleavy, who was a free agent. With the younger guys who really stepped it up last season (Butler, Teague, Gibson), the starters returning (Rose, Deng, Noah, and Boozer....unless the let Boozer go as some rumors have went), and rookies in the summer league team that did so well (like Snell, who they got from the draft and have been talking up a lot) and this new-look bench, will the Bulls actually be able to get by the Heat (assuming no one else in their conference suddenly becomes a powerhouse) and make it to the Championship? I'm feeling pretty optimistic.
  6. I wish I could have gone to a smaller camp my senior year. We went to Ohio State where there was over 2000 (and that's being conservative). Battle went to a camp recently at Tennessee Tech. Don't know all the details, but last I heard they were having 7on7 tournaments there and Battle went something like 3-0 or 3-1.
  7. Praying for her. I have a 3 year old nephew and 2 year old niece that I help raise and I just couldn't imagine if one of them got hurt like that (especially at such a young age).
  8. http://www.mpnnow.com/news/x967378480/Roderick-Scott-I-had-to-protect-myself So I just saw this story brought up on Twitter and the ones talking about it were wondering why it didn't make national headlines like the Zimmerman trial. Well probably because it was a black man that killed a white 17 year old and was found not guilty. The media can't get as much attention off of that.
  9. Heard my first real Zimmerman trial argument between two guys at a gas station here in Atlanta. Weird thing is that they were both. With all the hoopla of race-based arguing and riots and the large black population here, I thought there'd be arguments all over the place, but it seems like no one really cares that much about it (though maybe it's because I'm spending most of my time in and around this rehab hospital, so everyone here has more personal things to worry about). Been hearing about riots and protests on sites like Twitter, but haven't really seen anything on the news.
  10. Seen today where the District 1 Big League Softball team (made up of players from Bristol, Washington County, Damascus, and Abingdon) won state, beating District 6 10-0. They'll be heading down to Florida to play Regionals. Earlier, the Bristol area Big League Baseball team also won state (don't know who they played or the score) and went down to Florida for Regionals. Does anyone have any info on who they played and how they did in Florida? Or how they're doing so far (I don't know if they're still down there playing or not)? Anyway, CONGRATS to these teams for winning state and going to regionals!
  11. Don't know what Graham will have, but yes they will be 2A this season.
  12. Really it's not that much different for sports that used the division format. For sports other than football it'll pretty much be the same, just changing district tourneys to conference tourneys and replacing the 4 regions with 2 sections. Biggest change might be for sports like soccer, wrestling, tennis, and anything else that only had 3 classes (the ones that hadn't switched to using the divisions).
  13. I saw a comment on Twitter that I kind of liked that went something like this: If you asked for justice and can accept the verdict (no matter what side you are on) then you got justice. If you asked for justice, but weren't happy with the verdict, then you really just wanted revenge. I never really paid that much attention to the Zimmerman trial because I wasn't that interested. I mean, it was really tragic what happened and I think the legal system did it's job and it should be over now, but the case I'm more concerned with is Hernandez (a possible serial killer who's been making millions playing in the NFL). Seems like that should get some attention now.
  14. George Zimmerman found not guilty......I'm surprised that I'm the first one commenting on here about this.
  15. I see some tweaking in the near future (as soon as the two year deal runs out) but mainly just with the lower classifications in these sports. This system should work well overall.
  16. I love the VHS/JSB rivalry and everything and it'll be really interesting to watch this year, but I honestly think that the JSB/Honaker game would be a little bit better game (and the fans are always good to each other, unlike the ridiculous levels the VHS/JSB game can reach each year).
  17. I think it's a good setup too and can't wait to see it in all sports. But the one sport I'm really curious about is 1A soccer. That's going to be interesting.
  18. Wow. That seems ridiculous. Also it annoys the heck out of me that neither article had side-by-side comparisons of the logos. The first article gets points for having a pic of at least one logo....but then loses those points when they said "Jackson City" instead of Johnson City right at the beginning.
  19. Maybe they wrote a whole bunch of games down on slips of paper and just picked ten at random? Well, not totally random. Some of those games make a lot of sense.
  20. Why in the world is Burton vs Twin Springs on that list?
  21. http://now.msn.com/florida-bans-computers-smartphones-by-accident-in-internet-cafe-bill?ocid=ansnowex My only question (besides the obvious "how did this happen") is why ban internet cafes?
  22. Two questions: Where's the new stadium going to be and what's the deal with the lawsuit you mentioned?
