  1. What will make it more interesting is that this year marks the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, so more people may notice it a little more (whether they notice it with a good response or bad).
  2. That's right, it was the MPG decrease, not harder on engine. I knew it was one of the two.
  3. http://hogoheegee.com/hogo-forum/topic.html?id=4971 Someone on the Hogo forum said he turned in his resignation.
  4. I've always heard that while it's a lot cheaper than regular gas (and that may be reason enough to buy it for many) it's actually harder on your engine. I don't remember the details and it's just hearsay (never really looked into it) but I've seen people with cars that can take it and they never buy it.
  5. VHS would never let us live it down.
  6. I don't know where he'll go. Personally, I think he'll go somewhere not in this area (VA I mean) but go somewhere maybe in TN instead. I just hate that his reputation is tarnished now. He really is a good coach.
  7. I've been hearing a rumor that Colobro was interested in the job at Battle, but whether he is or not, I think he'll just go to DB. I don't know if I'd want him or not. Some people on the CMD forum have said that he's good with a steady program, but no good with building downed programs.
  8. It's official, Coach Witten has resigned today. I wish him luck wherever he goes and in whatever he does. Hopefully now the school board and principal can get the ball rolling on hiring a new head coach and HOPEFULLY it will be someone who is just as enthusiastic and hard working as Witten is and not just someone they can control. The team needs someone to keep on building the program and get it moving in the right direction, not someone who will only go through the motions. I've been hearing that a lot of kids can't make it to workouts because the weight room is only open at one time of the day and no one will open it at any other time (don't know if that's the real reason or if they just can't open it at other times). If they don't make a decision fast, this program will suffer even more than it already has. Coach Witten brought in so much hope and pride into the program, even despite our W/L record. I would very much hate for all of that to go away because the program was stuck in neutral over the summer or because they hire someone who isn't willing to give the program as much as Witten has.
  9. Looks like the right number. Here's a couple of sites I found some statistics on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_I http://www.chacha.com/question/how-many-american-troops-severed-in-world-war-1
  10. There are classes in school that teach about financial responsibility AND health responsibility....it's call Home Economics (or Teen Living for the Middle Schools). Unfortunately, most schools are cutting those classes out. I know Battle did when I was an underclassman there. Luckily I had Teen Living class while in Middle School, so I didn't totally miss out. I feel for the kids that don't have these classes now because they teach you a lot about how to take care of yourself, your finances, and your home....things that a lot of parents actually don't teach their kids (or at least don't teach them right). Just throwing my 2 cents in, sorry if I'm getting off topic.
  11. Battle wins 55-44! I think even some Battle fans weren't expecting that one.
  12. Last I read on the CMD forum, Battle was leading VHS at halftime, 25-21 for the D2 Region D girls championship.
  13. Looks like the D2 Region D crown will belong to the CMD this year for both the boys and girls. Battle vs Va High for the girls and GC vs Lee for the boys.
  14. I haven't watched racing in a really long time, but I decided to watch this one just because of Earnhart, Jr. I ended up forgetting about him and focusing on Bayne. That was pretty awesome.
  15. I don't remember how many employees were working that day, so they may have been short on manpower or they could have been short on inventory. I understand that, especially since they filled a similar order earlier and our's was unexpected (we couldn't call in ahead of time because we thought we were leaving in time to get something to eat, but a water line busted on one of the fields and the tournament had to be played one game at a time with a lot of teams and our boys had to get something to eat) but they could have just given us a reason instead of just saying that they weren't going to make anymore orders for other teams. They were pretty blunt and rude about it and there was no one else eating there at the time we ordered (though I know some regulars might pop in during our order, but they still could have at least given us a reason and been nicer about it).
  16. I love eating at Subway, but this is stupid. I've seen "footlong" used all my life at plenty of restaurants and stores. It really is just a generic word. And just to throw in a Subway story, when Battle went to play in a 7on7 tournament at Cloudland High School last summer, a bunch of parents went to the nearby Subway to get food for the team because we were stuck there much longer than we thought and didn't have enough food packed to last the day. You would think that the restaurant would be delighted to fill a $200 order, especially when there was no one else eating there at the time, but they actually turned us away. They said something about having already made a big order for one of the other teams and that they weren't going to make any more food for any of the other teams. I think someone did call their customer service, but I don't know what became of it. We ended up getting the team food elsewhere.
  17. I know more about the man than probably anyone on this board. I've been filming Battle's football games/events for the team every year since I graduated in '07 and I always make a point of befriending the coaches and team. My brother, who is a senior and plays for Battle, is also very close to the coach. I've been around him a lot more than just in the stands at games. I've been to the events and seen him take pictures, he's even showed them to me. Heck, he's probably just let lots of people take his phone and browse through the pics just because he's so proud of the program and team. But just to be clear, even though I really want him back and hope he gets cleared of all charges, if he did do wrong in any of these events (DUI or the water girl affair) and is found guilty, then he should be punished. I'm studying to become a teacher and know full well what responsibility comes with the job and how vulnerable the situation is. He knows that too and if he's guilty then it's on him.
  18. The pics on the phone were of the team and events that the football program had. From day one of coaching at Battle he was super enthusiastic and loved everything about the school and was always taking pictures and such. This part of the story has been blown way out of proportion. Of course they seized the pics, but that's because of the situation he was in and what he was accused of. They would be stupid not to check all the pictures.
  19. http://www2.tricities.com/news/2011/feb/17/washington-county-officials-wont-pursue-charges-ag-ar-848918/ He won't be back at Battle immediately, which means that the assistant coaches will have to oversee the offseason weight training and they will need someone to fill in for head track coach. He still has to deal with the DUI, which I hope he is cleared of. We definitely need Witten back because I definitely don't want to see the team have to adjust to yet another new coach.
