  1. Sounds like Bath County back when the Phillips brothers were there.
  2. see: Clintwood vs. Grayson. Stuff like that happens.
  3. According to Roanoke, Covington had four turnovers, Sussex had four kids with 100+ yards rushing. Second half was played with 8-minute quarters.
  4. ...led Covington 74-8 at the half today. Won 88-8. Give em hell Clintwood.
  5. Does everybody get a juice box and a Little Debbie, too?
  6. Lifted from text that will come out in print on FRIDAY.
  7. Dan River had 270 yards of offense. Edmunds had 245 of em, including a 40-yard halfback pass.
  8. I see your point with that
  9. Dixon has taken it easy on the other guys all year. He knows what he'll have next year, and what's coming next year, as well as anybody. Regular season, they averaged about 10 points in the second half, 3 in the fourth quarter. Galax didn't throw a pass in the fourth quarter between Week 1 and week 10, and taking one tailback out for another is just replacing good with good. If youve got stuff youre going to use when it matters, you work on it in a game situation, not against freshmen and sophomores on the scout team. The Grayson game showed Galax that they were out of shape, and that's another big reason the starters are still playing late. Point is, they're getting ready for Salem. Whether they make it, who knows, but would you want guys playing in the fourth quarter in the biggest game of their lives, when they haven't played 48 minutes but twice all year?
  10. Without Edmunds they're just decent. Grayson turned it over five times and was down just 4 points with 3 minutes left. DR is undisciplined and predictable, but Edmunds is a horse. Never saw speed from him but a hard runner between the tackles. Grayson D did a good job on him. He got 205 yards, but if you can't get 205 on 40 carries against a single-A team, you need to go to Ferrum, not Tech. DR's defense loaded up the line of scrimmage and blew up Grayson's plays before they got started. Grayson hadn't seen that kind of pressure all year.
  11. Just a thought... I imagine Southside/central/eastern Va have always had a higher perecntage superior athletes in their student population by simple reason of demographics. What I think has changed with the decline of the population of SWVA is the general makeup of the population that remains. Miners, farmers and factory workers, etc. raise tougher, harder working kids. There aren't that many left. Teams in SWVA are smaller in enrollment size, but it's not like they're still going up against AA-sized schools. It all swings the balance toward the areas with the higher concentration of natural athletes.
  12. 49 Jake Parnell broke a leg and had surgery. 44 Darren Anderson cracked a bone in his foot, missed a month but played last two weeks.
  13. 49 or 44? Both LBs were hurt in the first Graham game. 44 is back.

    11-11-11

First of all, if you're a vet, or if you're the widow or surviving parent/brother/sister/son/daughter of a vet, thank you for your sacrifice. Secondly, any upsets coming from No. 11 Chilhowie, No. 11 Central, No. 11 Colonial Beach or No. 11 Strasburg?
  15. 21-6 Galax The stands were full at 5 p.m. Some folks were there at 3 p.m. Good game. Great D by Galax, good D by Grayson, got burned on two long pass plays.
  16. Not mathematically. Just my bet.
  17. Week 1 Galax 17, Glenvar 14, OT Grayson's the 1 seed in D2 win or lose.
  18. Which region meeting - C, D or IV?
  19. Fort is good. Good size, good speed, well coached. They couldn't run worth crap v Grayson but a very sharp short passing game. Four losses to teams with a combined one loss says a lot, too.
  20. Impressive STIFF arm, too
  21. Almost. Galax 598, Union 616, Graham 616. Union beat Graham on the first playoff hole (6 guys each team) for runner-up. Galax had five seniors go out with three state titles and a runner-up finish. State title stays in Region C for sixth straight year, 10 of last 12.
  22. Quote from the Grayson coach on Wednesday: "I’ve got film on them against Marion and Richlands, and we went up to Princeton last week, and the thing that impressed me was that they get after it. They played hard. They ran to the football and they played four quarters."
  23. CC had 5 turnovers including a pick-6 and lost 14-7.
