  1. I think I would prefer to have a little fun with them, myself. Several co-workers and I have already had some fun at this person's expense. Our company Christmas party was this weekend and it was a topic of conversation. If the intended purpose was to somehow reprimand me, it failed miserably. I will keep the option open though, thanks.
  2. I'm afraid I will have to pass! The last opinion I shared on a Richlands topic, Cody Howie, an overly sensitive Richlands follower called my employer to complain. Sensitive lot, those Richlands followers! Good times!
  3. I had an angry soccer coach follow me home after a game in 2010. He lost his coaching job, was fired from his "day job" and his wife filed for divorce a few months later. Losing control of your emotions can have a devastating effect on your personal life.
  4. Close enough, 72-48. Back-to-back state final four appearances and coming off a 27-2 season, Northside will beat a lot of teams by 30 this year.
  5. I would have Martinsville ahead of GC personally. Other than that, I can't argue with this list.
  6. I completely agree. Other states have figured it out, Virginia should be able to as well.
  7. The amount is predetermined by each district and VHSL representatives.
  8. Per Diem for 50 kids would be substantially more expensive than for 12. See page 29 of the VHSL Financial Policies and Procedures Manual.
  9. I understand the thought process behind what you are saying, I think, but largely disagree with the proposed course of action. Understanding kids make mistakes is one thing, condoning and even rewarding them for it is an entirely different matter. I am not trying to get into the whole "generational gap" issue but maybe that's why millennials are by-in-large, out of touch with many social standards. Kids are not held to any standard much less the same standard we were held to. I am not suggesting policy and procedure never change from one generation to another but lack of action is still an action. By not holding him accountable, an action is taken to condone or dismiss the behavior. Yes, teenagers are prone to emotional outbursts but If this kid plays other sports, he will be far less likely of repeating this behavior given he was held accountable for this decision. And make no mistake, it was a decision for him to act the way he did. Life is about the choices we make and every choice carries with it, consequence. Learning these lessons as a teenager may keep this young man from making a mistake as an adult that follows him for a lifetime. I wasn't at the game but have seen several video clips of this kid pointing and taunting opponents, not only in this game but others as well. Obviously, he hasn't been held accountable for the behavior prior to now. If he had, maybe his choice would have been different in that moment. Maybe a choice by the other "family members" to not allow him on the sideline will reinforce the notion that choices carry consequence.
  10. I think this is the most interesting match-up Saturday. This will NOT be the same Blacksburg team Staunton River beat 61-21 in the 2015 playoffs. I'm still not convinced that will be enough though.
  11. North Carolina's system is rotational by division. This season, 1A & 1AA are at UNC, 2A, 3A & 3AA are at Wake Forest and 2AA, 4A & 4AA are at NC State. It has always been explained to me, North Carolina's set-up is to give those three programs recruiting access on campus. Not sure of the legitimacy of that notion, just what has always been passed along as fact..
  12. Victory Stadium used to be near Memorial Hospital in Roanoke but no longer exists. It was a complete dump when they tore it down 10 years ago. It had been condemned for a few years at that point as well, if memory serves. The last game I attended there was Graham-PH Roanoke. Ahmad Bradshaw had well over 300 yards rushing and several touchdowns. That was an impressive team. Several sections of the stands were roped off for safety concerns that night with the concrete chipping away like crazy. The stadium in Salem is simply called Salem Stadium and sits beside the minor league baseball facility and the Salem Civic Center.
  13. North Carolina's set-up is similar to Virginia with games played at UNC, Wake Forest and NC State. For anyone interested, I love North Carolina's baseball set-up. The 4 divisions bounce between Five County's Stadium, home of the Carolina MudCats and Burlington Athletic Stadium. The Final Four in each division all go to the host site and play 3-game series for the semi and final.
  14. Some comments made following the game left me with the impression these two coaches may respect each other but they certainly do not like each other. Hope you found a good meal in Galax at least. The game wasn't much to see.
  15. Shawn Christian was an excellent leader but an absolute headcase. I saw Jake Phillips play at Bath County several times as well as William & Mary. Pound for pound, probably the best "local" QB I have seen. I saw Brock Berlin and Drew Brees play several times each while in the military. Nothing I have seen locally compares to that. No offense intended to anyone, just sayin.
  16. Craig is as talented as hometown local newspapers get. The rest, not so much! If i'm not mistaken, Craig and Mike are brothers.
  17. I played against the Milton twins at Giles in the early 90's. At 15-16 years of age, I hadn't ever seen anyone that quick or fast. Not sure I have to this day. A few years later, my brother played against a Gate City team that was more than impressive with Shoemaker, Beasley and Houseright.
  18. Grayson has made more than its fair share of head scratching decisions through the years. Building a 25 million dollar elementary school on top of a mountain for 50 kids being the most astonishing. As a graduate, I like to give them shit for it. Truth is, Dukey is spot on. Grayson is rapidly approaching 1A numbers and will likely be there inside a decade if recent trends continue. And the MED is not the doormat it once was with no reversal in site.
  19. Staying in the MED to face all 1A opponents. GMan nailed it!
  20. We played that '89 team my sophomore year at Carroll the last week of the regular season. Game wasn't close!
  21. Looks like the whole of SWVA will be Blue next Saturday. Great job Richlands.
  22. Could those posting updates kindly apply in-game situation such as quarter and remaining time. Thanks, Everyone reading the board.
  23. I was just looking for this to give props. I thought RH would win convincingly but not quite like this. Good call. Galax is still very young. I believe 11 sophomores and freshmen starting or playing key minutes today. With the group coming up from the middle school, this could be a great motivator for a hell of a run. That is, as long as ego and administration doesn't destroy it first.
  24. Playing timid and came out throwing the football. Not exactly a recipe for success. Galax doesn't throw the ball well. Never have, really.
  25. Prior to Dixon taking over at Galax, one of the youth football teams was running the "Single Wing" and had been for several years. I can't be certain but I believe that prompted him to approach the recreation center about 8-man and having an influence on who coaches youth football. I should also add, Dixon strongly encourages the current varsity players to be involved with sandlot in small ways. Having varsity "stars" being visible and approachable for the little kids that look up to them fosters more participation in "The Breakfast Club".
