To be fair, the Virginia Department of Education website lists Riverheads High School with 458 students for 2018-2019. It shows 461 for the 2017-2018 school year , 477 for the 2016-2017 school year and 481 for the 2015-2016 school year.
They have certainly shown improvement in redrawing those boundaries to keep up appearances!
-
And Augusta County redraws the school division boundaries on an as-needed basis to get what they want!!!!!

I would argue, both are better by a considerable margin! This is the best Galax team in a number of years. Especially considering at least two starters have been on the sidelines in street clothes for every game this season. One in-particular is an all-state performer in multiple sports. I don't want to rush him back. He needs to get fully healthy before even considering playing. But he is a sledge hammer on defense. We won't know exactly how good this Galax team is and can be until he is healthy.
-
A few observations from this season. I hate the fact the VHSL reduced the state tournament from 36 holes to 18 holes. Sleeping on a lead and coming from behind are key components of tournament golf! The River Course is a tough course so, 306 is an exceptional team score. Won't look quite as good compared to other team scores from years past but they don't often play a course as tough as The River Course. Channing Blevins came to Galax and tied for 3rd at the Blue Ridge Invitational in August against the top amateur and professional adults in our region. Quality field and the kid more than held his own!

The crew did something similar on two separate occasions. The first, they walked the ball to the sideline for the measurement as described by the OP. The second, the "white hat" attempted to walk a straight line from the nose of the football to the chains before signaling a first down. As I said in the "Score Updates" thread Friday night, I don't bash officiating but this entire crew exhibiting nothing short of lazy behavior all night. Never seen anything like it before. It's one thing to put forth appropriate effort and make mistakes. It's something completely different to make mistakes while putting forth absolutely no effort.

Obviously none. Probably a 14 year old kid that should be paying more attention in Geometry and less attention to social media!
Then again, trolls gonna troll!

Pickett with a pick-6! Galax up 38-0
-
Those who know me on this site, know I’m not one to bash officiating. But this crew just measured for a first down by walking the ball to the chains on the sideline!
Honestly, never seen anything like that in my life!

For the record, Dixon doesn't fear anyone and relishes these games. Galax has much more than one option at RB. My only concern is the timing. Galax schools are closed for two weeks from October 14-25 for intercession/remediation based on the "balanced" school calendar they adopted about 6 years ago. It's nice for parents scheduling vacations at times other than summer break but absolute hell on athletics. Give kids a two week break and they can get lazy and distracted very quickly. It's also a constant fight for the coaching staff with the team mom's who see their friends going to the beach every October and they can't because little Johnny plays football. Not making excuses but Galax coaches (football and volleyball) hate those two weeks every fall. If they could do away with "intercession" they would in a heartbeat!
Now, lets save this conversation for next week. Galax plays Fort Chiswell this week and that should be the focus!

“Administrative issues” is a nice way to say somebody forgot to schedule referees!

Chicago Cubs since sometime around the spring/summer of 1984. I was 9 years old that summer. The Cubs put affiliates in Wytheville and Winston Salem around that time. My uncle started taking my cousin and I a few times a week every summer until I graduated from high school in 1992. Seeing guys like Joe Girardi, Damon Berryhill, Jerome Walton, Jamie Moyer, Derick May, Dave Martinez, Steve Trachsel, and Doug Glanville shaped my disappointment for the next 25 years!
My cousin and I would rush home from school every afternoon to watch the afternoon Cubs game on WGN and follow that up with the Braves on TBS. I never bought into the Braves hype. Probably because everyone else in the free world was a Braves fan. At least it felt that way in my little world. I was so excited when Wrigley installed lights in 1988. I thought that meant I wouldn't have to suffer through Don Sutton and Skip Caray anymore. Harry Caray was the greatest ever so, to hear him calling night baseball in Wrigley would be the greatest thing in the world. It was pretty special but the neighborhood agreement in the areas surrounding Wrigley means the Cubs are limited to the number of night games they can play without special exemption from city council. Which is usually reserved for the postseason.
Cheers to 2016!!!!! Thanks Joe Maddon. You will always be a Cub!!!!!

Two Saturday's ago while watching football throughout the day, I saw no less than 6 former Hokies playing for other schools. And playing well I might add! I still don't see any development of the players on the Hokie roster......offense or defense.
Who would have thought Hokie Nation would be eagerly anticipating basketball season in early October! 😏

I agree it's a young team. I'm not sure I agree they have talent. Below is a snippet from a Yahoo Sports article from yesterday.
On defense, the issue is simple, according to an opposing assistant coach familiar with Tech. He said there’s been a precipitous drop in talent: “It’s not even close to 2016,” he said, referencing Fuente’s first season with Beamer’s players. “I bet they don’t have one NFL player on defense. In the past, those defenses were stocked with NFL guys.”
I've been saying it for 3 years, VT is losing the recruiting battle for the state of Virginia handily to UVA. VT is getting a lot of the recruits they target. The recruits coming in to the VT program aren't developing one iota once on campus. They flat-line and that's a result of poor coaching. So the question is, which came first, the chicken or the egg? Is VT targeting the wrong players in recruiting or failing to develop those players once on campus? Or a combination of the two?
Either way, the Fuente/Foster experiment hasn't worked.

The California law doesn't take effect until 2023. A bill introduced in Florida today will take effect in 2020 if passed. Similar bills have been introduced in New York, Illinois and South Carolina. Indiana (Notre Dame) and North Carolina are expected to have similar bills introduced this week.
The dominoes have started to fall!
-
North Carolina, South Carolina and New York all have similar bills before state legislature right now. In my opinion, the NCAA will cease to exist in a few years. At least in the way we have come to know the NCAA. The athletic departments of each university (and as a collective group) hold all the power. The NCAA doesn't have any discernible talent or skill. Without an agreement with the power athletic schools, the NCAA doesn't have anything to sell to the general public. The athletic departments of Alabama, Clemson, Texas, USC, etc. have tons of power with the product they can sell.
The NCAA will consist of the "Group of 5" before long. The "Power 5" conferences will operate as a sort of "minor leagues" of professional sports.
