In theory there was always a round where only 8 teams were left playing. [4 from the west and 4 from the east]. This round was referred to as Regional Semifinals last year.

I do not think anyone has contested that they have changed how many teams get into Region play, more so how they will incorporate the QuarterFinal games again.

With 8 teams still making Region, how does the Quarterfinal's come into play? Also where is West Region D1 and D2 locations this year? Last year Richlands hosted D2 and Lebanon hosted D1

Does any one know how the Region for basketball is set up? With the addition of the "QuarterFinals" back I am uncertain of how they will do it. TIA Tentatively looking like out of 39 will be Richlands/Graham, 40 GC/Union, 37-?, 38 Mavahi/?

Do tell Bob... who is a "good" coach in SWVA then?

Bearcat Bob... I hope you are trolling regarding Vermillion. The guys has ran train in the LPD/Mountain district as well as most recent conference 40. Someone from GC correct me bc I know I am about to get this number wrong but hasnt he won like the last 14 of 15 regular season titles/conference titles? Numerous late season runs... Come on Bearcat Bob...

What is the hold up?

I think this year, the Union game is a great addition but last year PikeView was a solid team. (They lost to Bluefield by 2 and 6 points). I would say they just swapped a good team with a good team. To clarify, Richlands added Chilhowie, Union, Marion and Auburn and dropped Radford, PikeView, and the Va High Tournament.

Richlands schedule last year was much more difficult. They added Auburn (A division 1 team) and Union but dropped Radford, PikeView, and Greater Beckley Christian. They played Bluefield last year as well. Game for game this years schedule is weaker but is still a pretty stout schedule.

Thoughts?

@Trumpet... I do believe on EVERYthing that the VHSL send out it is referred to Central-Wise. Sure if you drive up behind the ole Wal-Mart and see the sign it says "Central High School" but to clarify Central could be a multitude of schools. I think within Wise County, Central would be directly associated with Central-Wise but travel closer to Abingdon and it could be Sullivan Central... Up in central Virginia there is Sussex Central, Central-Lunenburg, and Central-Woodstock. Maybe utilized as clarification more so than people just being ignorant.

Hey GoDukes07... Sounds like a good spot to begin some threads discussing such teams. If you want it discussed then discuss them. Tough to talk about teams and such without having a thread to discuss it.

Calling the upset... Richlands starters play a series into the 3rd quarter rather than being finished into the first half!

@LongtimeSWVAFan According to MaxPreps it was a 14 point loss. Not quite the "drilling" I was expecting prior to looking the score up. (Assumed 25+). Union did have a great team last year and with everyone back only look to make a deep run into March. Secondly, if memory serves me correctly, Conference 39 (The weak conference) had two teams in the region semi-finals. I do not think Conference 40 had anyone? Someone correct me if I am wrong. Graham-Martinsville and Dan River-Grundy. Graham had Mville beat but lost it on the last two minutes.

Falcon fans fail to remember the first time Blackenship touched the ball the refs blew a TD back on a holding call that was not even in the play. Refs were bad both ways. First 3 flags were against Richlands... but then again it is easy to forget when it is tough to say "Richlands was just better"

To each their own... (And I doubt that Ryan... I just don't see Coach Mance giving a crap what people say on here) I think most people have blown up my intentions of what I originally posted (surprising I know). The bottom line is as a program, if you are concerned with what other think of you then you need to reevaluate your program. Programs should believe in what they are "trying to sell" to their players. With that said, I understand the idea of motivating the players especially when respect is not shown. Maybe post a newspaper article or even a quote from an opposing coach... But to post what I say (who is a no body) is absurd.

I hope to god an NFL team is not trolling this message board for locker room material LOL. Quotes from credible sources like newspapers, Yes. Maybe an interview from a coach, of course! Heck I would even toss our VaPreps.com (not the forum) that some articles/standings/rankings might get mentioned or even posted in a locker room. Seriously, let's not kid ourselves. What we post here does NOT make it into a locker room. If it does it is more of a joke than used as something to "get the boys goin".
