Beamerball 566 Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 Most of this was from the clipper system. The lake enhanced snows and the upslope just started this morning. The lakes haven't really gotten much involved with this, the upslope hasn't been much yet for some either, and as a result some of the snows haven't been as good today. Amounts did vary, as they said it would, that's just the nature of it. But all in all a decent one, at least from a northwest flow event that is. The snowfall rates in some of the bands were impressive though. Conditions were pretty bad at times. It certainly wasn't what could have been, but nonetheless, not a bad little shot from this type of system.
BigBlueAlum 12 Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 While I enjoy this snow, it really isn't much of a snow at all, and it's got lots of people talking about it, it shows how uncommon a good snow is becoming.. Most of the talk this way wasn't so much about the quantity of snow (6"+ inches in Claypool Hill), but about how quickly the conditions turned. It was barely flurrying one second then 30 minutes later the roads were nearly unnavigable, with traffic at a stand still.

GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 tazewell points west got nice amounts we got around 4 inches in blfd area....but i agree not all cracked up to be....quinwood only had 5 inches as of noon..lake effect snow in this area is beginning to be all we get to get a good heavy wet snow we need it too come out of south. Raiders... It isn't "lake effect" snow...the lakes are frozen over now...once they freeze, you don't get lake effect snow... This snow is from the cold front wringing out the moisture left in the atmosphere from the Ls that have tapped the moisture from the GoM. The "banding" we are seeing is due to the dynamics of this system plus the winds.
