VivaFutbol 10 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I've only heard good things about Williams and Wilson. As long as Oglesby doesn't touch the ball.
Guest JJBrickface Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 That is a big loss, Evans is a big time player.
ghstoga 10 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 This is awful news. Hope he has a quick recovery and can get back with a vengence next year.

bhs7695 185 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 I really hate to hear that for Darren. I hope he can come back from this setback. He's a special talent. However, there is talent behind him. Ryan Williams came back a little overweight, but he's got time to get back into shap. Oglesby is now the #1 guy until someone takes it from him. Kenny Lewis could make it back at some point during the season as well. Looks like David Wilson will play this year as a true freshman
Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 Horrible news for Evans; I hope he makes a full recovery. He injured the same knee in practice on Friday, but was cleared to practice again today. If there was one position, however, where Tech could suffer an season-ending injury it was at tailback with guys like Williams and Wilson waiting in the wings. An injury of that nature to Taylor and the season would be lost.
wvuraiders 10 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 but williams will pick up slack and more in my opinion.
Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 but williams will pick up slack and more in my opinion. Williams is very talented, but in my opinion Wilson is going to be the superstar of the group. When all is said and done, don't be surprised if Wilson isn't considered the greatest Tech back of all-time.
fieldgeneral 10 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 That kid is a freaking amazing back. He was a tough as nails and had good speed. He will be missed in Blacksburg. I wonder how that shakes up the offense?
Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 As an opposing fan, I hate to see one of your big guns go down like this. Here's to a speedy recovery, a full recovery, and Evans hitting the field 100% in 2010.
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 This sucks!!! Now Stinespring has an excuse to keep his job after another underachieving season on the offensive side of the ball...

blueinbama 259 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 I hated to hear this news for Darren and for Hokie fans, and wish him a complete and speedy recovery. We all hate injuries, unfortunately it's a very real aspect of football at all levels. Let's hope he is 100% for 2010.
VivaFutbol 10 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 I'm guessing he will medical redshirt? Making him still a sophomore next year?
Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted August 12, 2009 I'm guessing he will medical redshirt? Making him still a sophomore next year? Correct. Or that's what any sane coach would do.

And he should get it.
Bulldogs52 484 Report Share Posted August 13, 2009 What is that running backs name from PC that went to Tech this year?
bhs7695 185 Report Share Posted August 13, 2009 What is that running backs name from PC that went to Tech this year? Nubian Peak. He'll be a DB for Virginia Tech.
bhs7695 185 Report Share Posted August 13, 2009 Correct. Or that's what any sane coach would do. It's not up to the coach, it's up to the NCAA if they'll grant Evans an extra year due to medical hardship.
Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted August 13, 2009 It's not up to the coach, it's up to the NCAA if they'll grant Evans an extra year due to medical hardship. I know, I've said as much very recently in this thread. But any sane coach would petition for it, of course.
Hacker 82 Report Share Posted August 13, 2009 Nubian Peak. He'll be a DB for Virginia Tech. Actually, Peak is working at receiver.
bhs7695 185 Report Share Posted August 13, 2009 I know, I've said as much very recently in this thread. But any sane coach would petition for it, of course. He may have some tough luck getting a sixth year still. I read this from another board: "A "medical redshirt" is used if you HAVE not taken a "regular" redshirt year, and you get hurt after playing in less than some percentage of your teams games (I think 25%, could be 30%). In this case, that year will become a redshirt year just as you've never played a down. If you have already had a redshirt year, like Darren Evans has, this option is NOT available, period. They're applied for immediately the season of the injury. Now, for people like Darren Evans, who have already used a RS season, there is a "medical harship waiver", that in some cases would grant a 6th year of eligibility. You apply for it at the end of your regular eligibility. These are almost never granted to D1 football guys...maybe 1 or 2 guys a year. They're typically only ever granted if a kid misses significant parts of more than 1 season. In other words, if DE comes back and suffers no further injury, he would almost certainly not get the "6th year"... "
bhs7695 185 Report Share Posted August 13, 2009 Actually, Peak is working at receiver. You are correct. I still think he'll become a DB at some point.
