When you're dealing with a multi-billion dollar industry, quibbling about $100M in revenues seems foolish at best and catastrophically moronic at worst. Now, no one's getting paid. Particularly not the team employees, of which there are thousands, who earn just enough to feed a family. Well done, NBPA. Well done, owners. Well done. The New York Rangers are a fun hockey team to follow. The big "winner" in all this is Gary Bettman. Just to think, the guy almost drove the NHL into extinction, and he lucks into the best possible scenario for his league. If he had 1/5th a brain in his body, he'd be working ESPN over like nobody's business to get airtime for his league. At the very least, bring back NHL Tonight. Instead he continues along with the White Entertainment Channel, a.k.a. Versus Network. Brilliant. Either way, we're losing a season of Blake Griffin dunks, Kobe Bryant dives, and LeBron James predictions. I feel cheated.
hokie07 11 Report Share Posted November 14, 2011 This doesn't bother me at all. The real winner is college basketball. It's obvious that ESPN will just replace their games with college games. I'd like to see TBS and TNT buy the rights to some conferences and show games too. I can count the number of times I watch the NBA on 3 fingers. I like to catch a west coast game when I am trying to fall asleep at 2 in the morning. I watch the marquee Christmas day game when I am trying to take my nap after Christmas dinner. The NBA Finals make up my last (middle) finger. What else is there to watch in June? As long as this doesn't increase hockey on my TV, I'm good. If it does, I might take to reading and watching the Twilight series. We don't want that.

Ditto 10 Report Share Posted November 15, 2011 When I was watching basketball last year and there was times that one of the "keys to the game" was which teams get the fouls called their way I decided that it was not the same ball I grew up watching, I wont miss it this year and if they cant make their players start earning more points instead of drawing bogus fouls all the time then I could really care less if it ever comes back. vthokies4life 10 Report Share Posted November 15, 2011 How can everyone hate the NBA so much? This is not your NBA from the early '00s. These guys actually hustle, they play hard from game to game, and real rivalries have developed. I'm telling you, we're being robbed of great entertainment without them playing this season. There has never been this much talent in the league at one time in the history of the NBA, and it's a shame that they can't figure out how to split up a couple bucks. The league today is amazing. Sooo much talent everywhere. Too bad I'm being robbed of watching Lebron hoist the championship this June. :(

I'm just glad they lost this past year. It ticks me off when teams crown themselves champions before the season. I find it quite tacky and off putting. Too bad I'm being robbed of watching Lebron hoist the championship this June. :( Yeah, like in south beach right? The egos in the NBA today are astonding in a league that historically makes the MLB and NFL players look humble. Your Miami heat is the shining example of the problems right now in that sport. I can count on one hand the amount of MEN, REAL men playing in the NBA right now. The rest are children who play on the smallest playing field for the most money. When the NFL went on strike, the world freaking STOPPED. I wouldnt miss the NBA if they never came back. I hope Hockey replaces it. BTW, those MEN include Tim Duncan, Jaylen Rose and Kevin Durant. Nowitski is probably on there too.

There has never been this much talent in the league at one time in the history of the NBA, and it's a shame that they can't figure out how to split up a couple bucks. I will agree that there is much more talent, but I don't buy your hustling point and playing hard. Guys average absurd numbers in the regular season because the teams don't play defense. I find it absolutely zero fun to watch the Mavericks beat the Nuggets 127-121 on a Thursday night in February. Despite the points and short shot clock it is extremely slow and boring. Rivalries are only what the players make them and player loyalty has a lot to do with it. Hardly anyone sticks with one team long enough to develop the hate required of a rivalry really. The Celtics-Lakers rivalry is probably the best in basketball, but even then it's pretty weak these days. There just isn't the hate that you see in college sports and even the NFL (i.e. Steelers-Ravens; Jets-Pats; etc.) Playoff basketball is the only time these games matter to the players. They play enough defense and exert themselves just long enough to get into the playoffs and then they turn it on. I don't think it is a coincidence that the scoring goes down drastically in the playoffs. That is when people play and play hard. Consequently, that is when you get good NBA basketball. The regular season could be basically boiled down to a maximum of 30 games. That would make for an exciting, competitive brand of basketball and you'd see much more commitment and determination by professionals. I do tune into the playoffs because I see effort from the best and, again, what else is there to watch in June? I was harsh in my first post, but I still don't like the NBA. Do I follow it? Yes, because it is all over SportCenter every day. I know who won, how many Lebron scored, etc. and why the Celtics will win the title or whatever they believe is important. I just get sick of watching millionaires arguing with billionaires over something that will be of hardly any detriment to either one, but I digress. EH31 2,532 Report Share Posted November 15, 2011 Yeah, sorry I had a 90's flashback. I disagree with the comment about Duncan though. everytime I see Tim Duncan miss a shot, this is what he does.. <img src="http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-snc4/41781_2368924548_2556_n.jpg"> ...he thinks he gets fouled every play. Then he proceeds to not run back down the court. But I guess we can agree to disagree. & Ryan I would have agreed with you about Garnett until he made the derogatory cancer comment. That's a touchy subject for me and I can't respect anyone who pokes fun at it. I think if you're talking about "real men" in the NBA & Derrick Fisher isn't #1 on your list, there is something wrong. (p.s. i hate the Lakers)
