I know its early but is their any way the Haysi/Honaker winner can take the #1 seed from Fort Chiswell?    It looks like Honaker may be able to but I doubt Haysi could.

and while were at it how far will the H/H loser drop? assuming FC wins their last 2 and Haysi and Honaker win their games this week.  Looks to me like Haysi wouldn't fall any lower than #4 and Honaker wouldn't fall any lower than #3

no need to worry tiger, just  wait, like me and see how things turn out.............if naker wins out, might be #1 if haysi wins out, might be #2 on a down note, clintwood lost another lineman to injury......acl..............

hate to hear that. There have been a lot of injuries to the Wave OL this season.

I know its too early, I know a lot can and will change but im just too excited!

The playoffs look to be good this season with a lot of solid teams. and for the 1st time since graduating high school I have Saturdays off and will be able to catch all of the games. I intend to be somewhere every Saturday all the way thru the state title game. Hopefully mostly in Haysi

What is funny if Tazewell is to win out they may just sneak in there!

I would like to see that !  It would be good for the kids and town.  They have made a lot of progress over the last 2 years !  It would also be nice to see all 3 Tazewell co teams make it into the playoffs !

Not a snowball's chance in Death Valley in July.

The math here isn't even remotely close, for one. For two, teams above you have nearly automatic wins themselves (Graham, Grayson). For three, some of the teams above play other contenders in the final weeks (Virginia, Lee).

Does a win over Abingdon not count for extra since they are a 3A team?  I'm still trying to figure out exact details of the new system, almost have it down.

Anything can happen it is football after all.  Look at VT who would have imagined a loss to Duke of all teams?

If taz beats abingdon they will get 26 total points. 20 for beating a 3a school and 6 for the 3 wins they have ( 2 points for each win).

Which is still not even close to enough. Consider that Graham will get 14 points alone simply by losing to Fort Chiswell! It's not as if teams will simply stop accruing points while Tazewell goes on a scoring rampage. Tazewell simply doesn't have the points. It's simple mathematics.

It's not like VT losing to Dook, either. As apples to oranges as it could ever be. With VT/Dook, we're looking at the result of one game. With the playoff bracket, we're talking about something wholly objective, accrued over months of time.

Edit: most of this post is not directed at you, friend, but it was just easier to piggyback this way.

Tazewell might get close IF they won out AND they received the maximum number of bonus points they could receive from the other teams they've played winning games.  May not be enough then, I'd say they'd have to be in the 180-ish total points (or 18.0-ish average) range after the last game to have a  shot. I've not looked out how many max bonus points they could get, so don't know for sure, but I'm guessing they probably come up short???

I'd say Graham's chances will come down to those bonus points.  I don't see them being completely out unless Lee wins this Friday and Lebanon wins out the rest of the way.  Otherwise it will probably be a matter of a few points here and there.

Winning a game against opponent :

Classification; points earned

6A - 26 points

5A - 24

4A - 22

3A - 20

2A - 18

1A - 16

Losing game:

6A - 14

5A - 12

4A - 10

3A - 8

2A - 6

1A - 4

***For EACH WIN by an opponent the team WON against, they receive 2 points

** For each win by an opponent that the team LOST to, they receive 1 point

There's also some type of bonus point deal for teams won against those in differing classifications.  Quoting the VHS website it says, "Two bonus points per classification for in-district games.  One bonus point per classification for out-of-district games."  For example, Graham played and lost to Galax last week, Galax had 3 wins then...so Graham got 4 points for the loss, 3 points for Galax's wins, and 2 extra points for it being a 1A opponent in the same district.  If Galax had been in another district, Graham would have got one extra point.  I think that's how it works just from looking at some of the rating point tabulations.  Someone correct if I'm wrong there.

The point formula is at the op of the VHSL official ratings page.

****Don't forget if you're looking at that table today, its a week behind and won't be updated until tomorrow or Tuesday.***

Observer do you think Richlands can make it to 4th with games remaining.

Very possibly. Richlands is in a tie for 6th now. John Battle sits in 4th, just 4 VHSL points up on Richlands.

Dan River is 5th, and still has to play Gretna (2nd) in a game I'd give to Gretna.

John Battle is 4th, and still has to play Union (3rd) in a game I'd give to Union.

Richlands will be favored in its final two games, and there's a 12-point jump in winning and losing.

Yeah but which VHS team shows up? The one that beats the hell out of Abingdon and plays awesome, or the sloppy second half team that has blown three winnable games in the second half? We're just so inconsistent, it is hard for me to be optimistic. We SHOULD beat Lee and we SHOULD beat Marion, because talent wise, I think we have more than enough weapons to beat them both, but we also should have beat the living hell out of Lebanon (true, the referring was awful and screwed us regularly), should have beaten Gate City, and the Richlands game was winnable as well.

I'm just disappointed with how we've underperformed.
