redtiger 1,740 Report Share Posted December 16, 2013 Ouch is right it would take an incredible group of Seniors to come thru. NET has a lot more kids to draw from and a lot of talent. Jason

Melvin 22 Report Share Posted December 16, 2013 Wonder what it would take for SWVA to beat NETN Bigger and faster players.....and I'm not trying to be a smartarse about it. Football in upper East TN is nothing to write home about, but it's head and shoulders above SWVA at this time. I am also going to guess that there are a few players who would help the SWVA cause that are playing basketball and don't participate. I never got around to commenting about the BHC interview with Phil Robbins about the state of SWVA football, but yeah, it's just a shell of what it used to be. redtiger 1,740 Report Share Posted December 16, 2013 SWVA vs NET has proven to be an uneven matchup. SWVA may win a game here and there but it will be mostly NET. I would like to see SWVA vs EKY or SWV. Much more evenly matched imo SWVA vs SWV would likely knock the Scott and Lee county kids out of the equation but would really add the Wytheville area kids. Could have the game at Mitchell Stadium. SWVA vs EKY would be good imo could have the game at Pikeville 1 year and UVA-W the next. Not knocking what the FCA is currently doing, I just would like to see how SWVA stacks up against similar sized schools and similar communities wave316

Most likely if the Va /Tenn games are played in Dec ..the other games would have to be in the summer..
Va football fan 3 Report Share Posted December 16, 2013 Another option would be to be to have just southwest va all stars. maybe have tazewell co, buchanon co, and russell co schools play washington co, wise co, scott co and lee co schools or some varience to that. The games would be more even and games would be more enjoyable to watch. It would be easier for the kids to get to practice and probably would put more people in the stands. Tennessee schools could do the same thing. redtiger

thundercloud 179 Report Share Posted December 17, 2013 Demographicly out numbered. Look at the population density TN draws from. Has to be much larger with the size of cities on this end. Just many many more to pick from. Much much more speed to draw from. wave316
ThomasDenton 79 Report Share Posted December 17, 2013 A point I tried making to a few people the other day when they were complaining about how bad the VA team got beat is that TN has a much larger pool of athletes to choose from than VA does. The kids not playing this game due to basketball hurts the VA team a lot more because we can't replace them as easily as TN can theirs. I think the idea of SWVA vs NETN is great and all, but as someone else mentioned, I would love to see a SWVA vs SWV game or SWVA vs EKY game. The numbers wouldn't be so lopsided. For the SWVA/NETN game, might want to consider expanding the number of schools included on the VA team as well to help make up the difference. Stretch the territory all the way to Roanoke if you have to.

Wytheville is about 60 to 70 miles from Bristol..Roanoke would be another 70 or 80..

Jason 299 Report Share Posted December 19, 2013 I think VA could compete better if the coaches that are selected quit trying to go away from what most SWVA football teams do. Line up and run it. Power football is SWVA. 2011 was the only year I think VA did that and competed very well in that game. Lost by 8 instead of 44. I only ask that whoever selects the coaches for this game please quit selecting coaches that run the Spread. redtiger
sixcat 2,919 Report Share Posted December 19, 2013 I lived in Roanoke for nearly 10 years. They don't give two cents about anything beyond the Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Radford area and most think that's about where Virginia stops and Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia starts. A perfect example, Oak Hill Academy had played St. Vincent-St. Mary's (Labron James) the night before on ESPN. A coworker came into the office the next morning ranting about the "mother ship" at ESPN being a bunch of complete idiots talking throughout the game about Oak Hill Academy being in Virginia when everyone knows it's in Tennessee. I told him that Oak Hill was indeed in Virginia and he began trying to argue with me. I pulled the school website up online and told him to read for himself. He then said that was the website for the "regular" Oak Hill High School. When I mentioned that the "regular" Oak Hill High School was in West Virginia, he got pissed off and said "everybody on the other side of Radford is inbred anyway, they don't even know what state they belong in". That was the last time we spoke! Comments like that were all to common also. redtiger
redtiger 1,740 Report Share Posted December 19, 2013 Exactly! SWVA has MUCH MORE in common with EKY or SWV than NET or the rest of VA. I would like to see our Senior Allstars playing against teams from similar communities. and imo you're right swvaoutdoors, SWVA allstars need to play SWVA football. Most of the players fit better in that type of offense imo. Run Pro-I, with some Power-I and 4 WR, mix it up Jason

The year we lost by 8 we had Devon Johnson of Richlands and Tyler Graham of Lee High running the ball... I have not seen any Va rbs to compare with these two. The defense of 2011 was stout that yr too.. Sad to say SWVA football is not getting any stronger in my opinion. Most SWVA teams were way down this yr.. Eastern teams defeated Western.... Looking ahead who are power running backs that could compare with Devon Johnson next year in SWVA... Who are the best senior linemen , qbs... ETC... BigO 316 Report Share Posted December 20, 2013 Isaac Perrigan from AHS. He's not the "power" runner that Devon was but the kid can run. He runs hard and doesn't shy away from contact, to a fault sometimes.

I have not seen any Va rbs to compare with these two Good point. Those were 2 VERY good RBs Haysi will have a couple of very good OL next season and 2 solid FBs (1 will play OL next season for us but he is better at FB than G and if it wasn't for need that's where Haysi would have him). 1 is a MLB(Defensive Back of the year for 1A West) and the other is a very good DE high motor guy. Haysi will also have a good WR and a good QB, but they may be Basketball players. Clintwood will have a very good WR next season(not sure if he plays Bball or not) wave316
