Duke2015
Does anyone know enough about Jenkins to know if they can even give Ridgeview a descent game

bigcotton
It's going to get ugly real fast already 2-0 rv. With rv on jenkins 10 only one m8n. Into the game
Cash
Ridgeview just to much for Jenkins 65 to 8. Quick clock started in the 1st quater. Mullins called his dogs off early, but the 2nd and 3rd string held it together as well.
RiverRat24
Jenkins only fielded 15 or so players? Did I understand that right? Or did you mean fans?
cwood78
I counted 14 players
redtiger
16 players, 21 fans  Ridgeview was in a real pickle to find a 10th game and took what they could get(buy). Horrible game, nothing good came out of it for either team.  2 injuries;  #10 for Jenkins. It looked bad. Gauge Hill for Ridgeview. He hurt his knee, I wont speculate on the injury but I have a pretty good idea
2000wave
It was a sad game IMO. Bless Jenkins heart. redtiger
RiverRat24
I mean....with those numbers they should be on the verge of not fielding a team and let the boys who want to play travel to put forth their efforts on another team. But hats off to those boys who play on both sides of the ball every snap. They have to have alot of heart knowing that their chances of being great is very slim yet they came out this summer to practice just to play on Friday nights. I just hate to hear that for those boys. And it's a shame that more fans didn't come to support them. If all family members were still alive their should have been no less than 32 fans there providing they didn't have jobs that wouldn't allow them to be there. redtiger
Haysi played them some years ago and there wasnt more than 50 fans when we went over there. Very small school, very small community. They had some size(not athletic but big) and some quickness(very small players) but were vastly outmatched. It was honestly the worst game I have every seen. RiverRat24
I wasnt sure of the size or population of the town of Jenkins. I knew they was small but had no clue they were that small. I had in my mind that they were like Shelby Valley which is actually a decent sized school. Ridgeview would have been better off if they could have found a TN school across the line to play them.....maybe North, South, or even TN High. That didn't help those boys any at all tonight
West12aaa
Letcher county remind me of lee county va. 2 schools, football is lopsided and basketball is even.  Jenkins is an extremely small town much like ewing, while Whitesburg and parts of Knott county all collide to form Letcher central. I think Jenkins is 1 a and Letcher central is 3 a, like Jonesville, pen gap, and Flatwoods make up lee high  I worked in hazard for about a year, I have a little knowledge. RiverRat24
So these kids just get the sh*tty end of the stick I guess you could say when it comes to numbers of students due to the schools being fairly close together but yet not consolidated? Or maybe I misunderstood that completely.
RiverRat24
Nevermind....i read that wrong I do believe.
redtiger
Jenkins keeps their city status but the kids get screwed. All of Letcher county is consolidated except Jenkins. Letcher Central is up around 1,000 students while Jenkins is around
RiverRat24
Okay well i did read it right then. That's a shame for those kids. Might as well combine them and raise the school numbers by another 150 or 200 students.
redtiger
Only way to do that is for Jenkins to renounce their city status and they wont. I have yet to fully understand the benefits of being a city, other than having control of how things are done locally. Its really not good for the kids overall imo
RiverRat24
Yea that's pretty ridiculous. Â I'm guessing there was no way to tell tonight whether Ridgeview had sharpened up a few sloppy areas of their game?

RiverRat24
Well.....as much as I like sports they are probably better off then. Education goes a long ways. The boys that roughed them up in high school will probably be working for them one day haha
redtiger
I cant see how with such a small school the education could be better. Theres no way the students have access the resources that the kids at Letcher have

I'm not for the consolidation of any school, 1v1 attention is more important than anything, unless you are LeBron or Tim couch.
Beamerball
Our schools aren't that big even after consolidation, by size we're still average or below. Kids that need one on one attention should still be able to get it at any of the consolidated schools, along with the extra/improved resources. Sometimes the scores go down versus a bit smaller school, but I often believe that's just more kids who don't really care being added in to the equation. redtiger
