sup_rbeast 296 Report Share Posted September 26, 2015 VERY flat! Lucky to leave Bullitt with a win. Defense was horrible. Best thing to happen to Union all year happened tonight late in the 3rd quarter...they finally learned how much more effective their defense is when they line their CBs up close and slightly inside the WRs. I understand letting your athletes play in space and all that..but these are high school QBs throwing the ball. It's much more difficult to complete a pass when a defender is between the ball and the receiver than it is when you play your CBs off and let the WR run a slant. It also disrupts routes and timing, and forces the QB to hold the ball longer. Richlands made a living off of shallow posts and slants, and GC did too before they finally adjusted their CB alignment. It's been five long and frustrating years watching QBs eat Union up on easy pitch and catch..and it's about time they find the confidence to let the CBs play up consistantly. Definately made a difference tonight, and would be in their best interest to take the same approach moving forward.

He waits for the RBs to come to the linebackers and waits for the receivers to come to the DBs. Union has MORE than enough athletes to cover 1 on 1 and jam the receivers at the line. We could really use a different coordinator. 94 APPY DAWG
sup_rbeast 296 Report Share Posted September 26, 2015 I agree that the gameplan and coaching on the defensive side of the ball has been lacking and subpar at Union since day one. Still, by locking down the WRs with the CBs, the rest of the D could be much more aggressive and effective than it is on a regular basis. trumpet1988 289 Report Share Posted September 26, 2015 Union has the mid season hump to get over. I hate this point in the season. They likely end up 10-0, 9-1, or 8-2. Just don't know where that intensity was first quarter through the late 3rd quarter. They finally woke up. Won't cut it after awhile.
