LegendatLegion 109 Report Share Posted March 6, 2016 Wow! The girls down this way have sure played the best basketball for several years now. It never ceases to amaze me how good the quality of girls ball down this way. Good luck to all and bring 2 more titles home to SWVA
Beamerball 566 Report Share Posted March 6, 2016 Hidden Valley has a good shot at the 3A title. Even in 4A, Carroll County had a great year and William Fleming is a stout team too still playing.

Could've at least been in the Qtr Finals. Pretty awesome 2 teams from our conference is in the final four once again. I look for Ridgeview to bring home at State Title in the first year of existence. I think we have the tougher of the two semis though. Even though we beat Floyd by 12 at Wise, it was a hard fought, close battle. Wilson Memorial only beat Chatham by 6. Union beat them by much worse down here. I think Union beats Wilson Memorial.
Leatherhead Larry 530 Report Share Posted March 6, 2016 Historically speaking, the West is the tougher end of the state in girls basketball game.
Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted March 7, 2016 Historically speaking, the West is the tougher end of the state in girls basketball game. Lately, very much so. "Historically", the VHSL Book of Records disagrees. The history of girls' basketball championships at the A/1A level has been historically a dead split between east and west. In AA/2A, Wise Central is the only team west of Pulaski to EVER win a state title. 2 for eternity is not what I would call "historically tougher"
GC_Quincy 582 Report Share Posted March 7, 2016 The GC girls also have a state championship in basketball.
Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted March 7, 2016 The GC girls also have a state championship in basketball. In 2006, when Gate City was A, for which I accounted.
E.Z.DOES.IT 15 Report Share Posted March 7, 2016 After watching a lot of these games..... I honestly, believe the CMD was more competitive than the State tournament. Good Luck to Ridgeview and Union.
trumpet1988 289 Report Share Posted March 7, 2016 How cool would it be to have Union and Ridgeview play for the championship? I'm pretty certain Central won it in 2014 and 2015. If Union and Ridgeview rematch, that just means it's coming back to the MD again. Oh the possibilities!Gate City boys have a good shot capturing the title as long as they can get past Martinsville. cityofRaven 2,450 Report Share Posted March 8, 2016 Didn't George Wythe win the AA crown back in 1989?
Beamerball 566 Report Share Posted March 8, 2016 Yeah, George Wythe won it in '89. I think Lee could very well have won in '00 had they gotten by Northside. GC_Quincy
Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted March 8, 2016 Didn't George Wythe win the AA crown back in 1989? I missed one, out of 40 some years of play. Sue me. :) My tired eyes didn't see the "Wythe" designation. There are two such high schools in VA. Point still remains, the West has been the East's whipping post in girls' basketball historically in AA.
Widespread_Panic 197 Report Share Posted March 8, 2016 Point still remains, the West has been the East's whipping post in girls' basketball historically in AA. Mainly because a majority of the teams from SWVA were historically single A. They just moved up to AA recently.
Beamerball 566 Report Share Posted March 8, 2016 I was thinking the same thing, I don't remember too many schools AA. I seem to remember the West dominating the All-Star games for a stretch too.
