ImFromOutEast 14 Report Share Posted August 3, 2023 Any football played on combination football/baseball fields? There used to be four out this way but that number is two with one simply being played on the baseball outfield. At the other he visitor's sideline is part of the dirt infield but that may no longer be the case as that particular facility is no longer used for baseball. Duke2015 451 Report Share Posted August 3, 2023 Appalachia always played on same field and practiced on it. Set up for some muddy November playoff games

Still the most impressive historical school in the coverage area in my opinion only based on what they did, that success, with that few. To pull up on a bus at GC in full pads 10 minutes before kickoff, go on the field and win, then don't even huddle up at the end of the game and just gets on the bus and goes home. That's awesome. It's different, but it's cool.
1inStripes 932 Report Share Posted August 3, 2023 Rye Coves is football/softball. It used to be baseball until a new field was built around 06.
Liam McPoyle 1,863 Report Share Posted August 3, 2023 Many years ago I believe Northwood/RB Worthy had a combo field.
sixcat 2,920 Report Share Posted August 3, 2023 Fries played on a combo field. It can still be seen on Google Maps, complete with football field outline.

Liam McPoyle 1,863 Report Share Posted August 3, 2023 Withers Field/Park in Downtown Wytheville used to host GW football and baseball along with Wytheville's Minor League teams.
Liam McPoyle 1,863 Report Share Posted August 3, 2023 Not SWVA, but Kingsport DB's field isn't your average HS multipurpose stadium. The FieldTurf at J Fred was added a few years back. Photo source: ballparkbrothers.com
1inStripes 932 Report Share Posted August 3, 2023 I think because of the turf, they may have the oddest visitors seating section also. But at least they have one unlike quite a few TN schools it seems like. Liam McPoyle
SW_VA_boy 492 Report Share Posted August 4, 2023 It no longer fits this discription but Ragsdale Field in Narrows used to be such a field. Was the baseball home field of the New River Rebels, Chicago White Sox affiliate, Appalachian League team back in the late 40's.
Plywood_King 518 Report Share Posted August 4, 2023 It must be tough playing football for Marion knowing that if you were a once in a generation football talent, equal to an Ahmad Bradshaw, Thomas Jones, or even maybe Bill Dudley, you'll never be the best athlete to play home games at that football stadium just because of the damn baseball diamond in the east endzone.
