  1. Gate City had outstanding junior high teams a couple of years ago. I think these kids will be sophomores and juniors this upcoming season. Now, I don't know if they moved or still play football, but the 8th grade team they had a couple of years ago was wicked for an 8th grade team. Gate City already has the coaching thing down pact. Houseright is one of the best, but it's him waiting for the talent to cacth up the last couple of years. It might catch up next year.
  2. Thanks Sixcat, Redtiger and Gridiron60. Those reasons for why a coach would interview knowing he likely wouldn't get the position are logical and make sense. I wasn't aware it was this common to 'go through the process" for lack of better words until today.
  3. So, if 2 guys on here, one from Tazewell and one from Richlands are both making it known they have heard the new coach is decided on already and the interviews are just a formality or checking of the box, then......I would wager the guys interviewing for this position are also aware of this. Therefore, why interview if you know you have no chance?
  4. New coach at Richlands has been announced. Its Richard Bobby.
  5. Fort Chiswell will have enough talent on their team to win the district. I'm not saying they win the district, but they have some talented kids over there and their coaching and talent could definitely put them in the mix. Princeton will be loaded again. Actually had a somewhat young team.
  6. Salem and Phoebus is the one I'm interested in.. Maury is Norfolk's Public Academic School. Maury is where parents sends their kids in Norfolk as the school with better academics, better facilities, better resources, Less Crime and student problems, better athletics. If you are a dialed in parent in Norfolk and don't have the funds to send your kid to a private school, you do everything in your power to get them to Maury. Don't expect a let up with Maury for quite some time.
  7. I'll go Radford in a close one. I think either team can win and no surprise whoever wins. Two very solid teams. Both have a super senior leader. I value the QB more than the RB because of the way football is played today. Radford by 7 points. I like Radford slightly because of the athletes they have and ability to spread Riverheads out, and Radfords rush defense seems pretty good and that will help against the best rushing offense in the state in Riverheads. No surprise if Riverheads wins though.
  8. Anybody ever ponder the question about Crist in that..... We thought it was all Crist, but maybe it wasn't Crist after all. Maybe it was just Virginia High because the place has been pretty much unwinnable for decades, regardless of who the coach is. For those who haven't pondered this question, it might be time to start giving it some consideration.
  9. I hope Galax beats the dog poop out of Essex. Galax somewhat down, looks ugly early on and for sure, it's Grayson, Honaker, maybe even George Wythe or Rye Cove. Nope, it's Galax in the state title game and Galax can win the game. Galax can beat Essex. This isn't Martinsburg vs Princeton. Galax has a very reasonable shot to go from where it was preseason and early season regarding ugly perception to literally winning a state title.
  10. Radford needs early explosive plays. Needs to get a lead. Get their athletes in space and get a 14 to zip lead and make Riverheads play from behind. Radford can win this game. Riverheads sees nothing like this offensively for most of the year regarding being spread out and a QB that can run. This will be a good game. I favor Radford here.
  11. Graham can often overcome those mental lapses. I do NOT mean to be offensive. The biggest difference in Graham this year was the lack of mobility of the QB. He's young and just a sophomore, but he offers no escabability with pressure with his feet. Graham has had QBs for the last 7 or so years that if you blitz them, they could hurt you with their feet. A fast QB could have taken 1 or 2 of those sacks and turned them into 20 or 30 yd runs historically for Graham. Radford sent pressure a few times not because they weren't worried about Grahams speedy receivers because they were more than aware, but they sent pressure because they didn't respect the Graham QBs feet. With that written, the Graham QB is good. He was just under pressure a bunch and when WRs were covered, he didn't have the legs to outrun Radfords very fast linebackers.
  12. Radford last won the title in the early 70s with everything QB Ken Alderman. But, can't always use the history argument, because before today, Radford had not beating Graham in about 30 years. Radford has never had a QB this game changing since Alderman 50 yrs ago who was elite for his time. What ai am getting at is....Radford has had a bunch of "firsts" this year. Radford can beat Riverheads. Riverheads can beat Radford, but Radford can beat Riverheads. The most shocking part of the game today or surprise was Radfords run defense. If they replicate thst next week, they have a decent chance to beat Riverheads.
  13. Best all around HS Football player and most impactful for his team in my opinion is the Hill kid on the line of scrimmage for Graham. I'm sure a QB, RB, or WR always gets the first look, but if you want the most consistent player and productive player in the SWD in my opinion, it's the Hill kid for Graham.
  14. Grahams defense has played more than well enough to win today. Gave Radford a short field on the punt and that's 2 Tds for Radford. They did a masterful job on Clark. The Difference in this game has been Graham's inability to move the ball (at all) in the second half.
  15. I know the Big Red is the fashionable pick and they are solid, but I think Radford will move the ball all over them. I think Radford will beat Riverheads.
  16. We have learned this lesson many times. Yes, Reg D can win over the C team, but it doesn't happen much and picking the D team can result in a bad choice. Lastly, Galax is Galax. They rise to the top year after year most times, no matter how bad they look in week 2, do not pick against them in the west.
  17. Yep, they are out of time now. Even if they hold Radford this series on this 3rd down, Graham likely doesn't have time to ground and pound for long. They will have to put it in the air.
  18. How much time left and score of the Galax vs Honaker game?
  19. Graham has zero ideas offensively and credit to Radfords staff. They have completely looked like a different team defensively in the second half. 3rd and 4 and Graham goes away from Clements and throws it on 3rd down. Graham has had 3 third downs in this half of less than 3rd and 5 where Clements didn't touch the ball. They passed it instead.
  20. Look for Graham to throw deep balls on this upcoming series for Graham. Graham's OC is starting to panic. Not sure what to do
  21. Bus driver.....start turning those keys over. Another thing that's happened here. Graham isnt moving the ball this quarter. Radford is now completely selling out on the run and going to make the sophomore QB beat them in the air.
  22. Something to think about in this game. Radford has not given up the Big play to Graham. No explosive 50 yds type plays given up by the D and Graham has done that too everyone.
  23. I don't think its about its. I thinks Ifs is what separates the two teams. Really good teams catch balls in open field. If you don't catch an open ball, u probably aren't as good as the other team. The blame is on Graham, not "bad luck.'
