  1. Look at that 5 HOGO schools. 3 full time members, 1 former, and 1 new.
  2. I hope it stays that way, it will be much better for the kids, and the sports teams in the long run. As I have said before, 31 years after Rich Valley and RB Worthy (Saltville) combined to make Northwood you can still look into the stands and see division between the older groups. This bunchs sits here and that bunch sits there, while they are both bashing the current school and team. I was talking to my Father-in-law this weekend, he is one of the ones I just refered to, (RB Worthy Grad) both of his children went to Northwood and this is what he said "I have never been a Northwood fan nor will I be a Northwood fan, I wish they had never combined them it wasn't needed". He is far from the only person on the north side of I81 to think like that. I hope this is not something the newley consolidated schools have to put up with, I know it's there but I hope it's not as hurtfull to the school or the building of new friendships and teammates as is has been for someother schools.
  3. Thats pretty good. Northwood has several skill players returning but lost their line. I am feared that they wont change the offense or at least put in a few new plays it will be a long season in Saltvegas.
  4. That was when they where in the old Southwest District, and they covered the other teams.
  5. I started school at age 4 and finished at age 17. As far a size wise goes call me average, never the biggest or smallest in my class, well untill high school I might have been one of the smallest. Physically, educationally and emotionally I was ready to start school early (5 older brothers and sisters teaching you things will have you ready early). The only dissavantage for me was in little league sports, the kids in my class would move up to the next level a year before me while I was stuck playing with kids a year behind me in school. Once in high school the rolls reversed, I was moved to varsity football and baseball as a freshman while the rest of my classmates were still playing JV untill our junior year when they moved up. I don't know if I would change my path through school or not, it worked out well for me. Not many kids can say they were starting varsity football as a 13 year old freshman.
  6. I would have never thought Glenvar up that much.
  7. George Wythe didn't have to run anything else, NW couldn't stop it. GW could have more balance to their O, but if thats the only game you have seen them play you wouldn't know.
  8. Not all Northwood fans are like this dip-wad, but then again a lot of them are.
  9. One reason they make it look so easy, is because it's the only offense they have ever run from pee-wee on up.
  10. Covington ran the single wing with a spread feel. They would have a split end or move 3 guys out, but it was mostly single wing. Who to watch, #21 hard runner with speed, QB #5or6 can't remember very quick he can run up the middle or fast enough to get outside (really good on the scramble) throws well on the run. A lot of team speed, they would set Northwood up running up the middle then bust out a toss for big yards. They were pretty balanced on O for a team that runs the single wing. I only recall a couple of "gimmick" plays, a lot of counters, and read option, a few reverses and fake reverse.
  11. Northwood was D2 untill the 1994 season. They have had declineing enrolment eversince.
  12. So whats the deal with the gym's? Surely they are not half court? Bleachers only on one side?
  13. The elementary school in Tannersville is already closed. About half of the Tannersville kids goe to Rich Valley Elem, Northwood Middle (rich valley) and Northwood High already. The bus I rode was on the loop through Tannersville, Little Valley, Flat Top, and back into Smyth Co through the lower end of Broadford and North Holston.

  15. If Marion can get the running game going and play solid defense I think they win the game.
  16. I agree, everyone in the Hogo has played Marion in recent years with the exception of Holston and they already play a 2a school. I mean it's not like they will play them again in the playoffs or in tournements.
  17. Northwood has played Marion every year since Northwood became a school, thats not going to change. As far as classless, as in running up the score when you have the jv's in the game and you still can't stop them, well that just can't be helpped. I have my own thoughs about the classieness of the wrong side of walker mountain (Chilhowie/Marion) but that is biased because of where I'm from. I have no doubt they think porely of us as well.
  18. You can't get the people from "Saltvegas" and Damacus to understand that. All they want to do is play the "we are so small playing these bigger schools" card. I know I'm from there, I've played it myself in the past. Yes it might be a loss more often than not but it does 2 things; POWER POINTS, POWER POINTS, POWER POINTS, and it is a step up in competition which will better perpare them for the playoffs.
  19. Yes it is Bland/Rocky Gap. They are 2 different schools but they are combined in sports.
  20. Thats what I thought. Neil was my coach my last 2 years at Northwood, Tim came and worked with the QB's the first year.

Northwood's principal, he called it off around 2pm Friday. The forecast at the time was calling for thunder and lighting, (i will give him that). IMO I think he was thinking that would give the Olinger boy 3 more days of rest from his injury. A sloppy wet field would have (most likely) slowed GW's speed advantage and I don't think it would have affected NW's offense that much, seeing as how it is a 3 yards and a cloud of dust type. But is wasn't played Friday and all you are left with are what if's and if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump it's ass everytime it jumped.
  22. Was Neil Johnson the coach?

I'm not saying that GW wasn't the better team, just not 29 points better. IMO. No excuse, but I would have like to have seen them play Friday night. It might have been a different outcome or it could have been more of the same. You are correct NW does not throw the ball well at all, it may not be a factor the rest of the season but come playoff time it will hurt them, just like last night. GW earned the win, on D they got NW behind the chains and on O they moved the ball at will. It was a good win for them.

The game was closer than the score, GW has a good team with a good bit of speed.
