Not everything requires mental gymnastics. This could very simply be a case where she moved when the family did. Not like she had another option. Then decided she didn't want to give up high school softball so she transferred to THS.

Yeah that’s what it seems like, family simply moved and she is going somewhere else. Kinda refreshing tbh, an athlete moving for no nefarious or self-centered reason.

Parents bought a house in Bristol last spring was what many said then.  Mother now teaches at TriCities Christian where Compton then enrolled this past fall.  They didnt have a softball team and is now at TN High after a hardship waiver was approved by the TSSAA.

So it really is just parents moving? That’s nice.

I can’t imagine being at THS would get that much more exposure than Tazwell but maybe I’m just being blind.

Boy Pairings All Set in Class 1 and Class 2 as Auburn beats Honaker in Class 1 Boys by a score of 56-44.

Auburn vs Middlesex in Class 1

Virginia vs John Marshall in Class 2, even though I haven't see in the JM vs Bruton score yet, trust me.......it's all set.

At least Lancaster v Auburn will be a great game. VHS should be super proud tho, incredible season by those kids and in another scenario they could win a state title. But as long as JM is in the 2A bracket no one else will ever win a title.

The dilemma JM coach has is what to do with the backups when up 40?  Do you take your starters out up by 20,30,or 40?  Those starters have moved from somewhere literally just to play basketball there and the Coach has direct communication with college coaches about getting the kid noticed and I'm sure has told the kids that they get so many minutes per game, etc.  Then, here's the other problem......the guys 6 through 10 have also likely moved there or from outside the area and trying to make it.   They are also trying to get noticed.  Here's the scary thing, JM's 6 man through 10th guy could win the VA Class 2 state title game by 15 to 20 points, so what does the coach tell those parents of guys 6-10?  Does he just let em pass it and hold the ball and play zone defense, etc?  I don't know the right answer here.  I do know this.........this is just yet another problem faced when you have a system in place that allows unfair competition.  It opens up just crazy cans of ALL KINDS of worms, not just lopsided scores.  It even creates some internal conflict (I'm sure) within the team/parents, etc.

JMs bench would beat the rest of 2A all stars by 25+. The talent gap is just insane. The VHSL should remedy this before the next season.  Make a special exception and let them play up. You should allow any team within reason to play up in one particular sport if they want it.

With a solid core of sophomores this Union team has a bright future, but they've got to find a big man.

And change up the style of play. Losing Reyshawn is a huge blow tho and I don’t know how’ll they replace him. With such a guard heavy team, why is Union playing games in the 40s? They should be pushing the pace and get more easy shots to make up for the half court deficiencies

It's freakin unbelievable man. There is just know way in 50 years this will happen again. I know 50 years is long time and sounds like hyperbole and it probably is, but what's happening this year just hasn't happened in like.......ever. There is literally not one elite or stand out team. A couple seem "better" than others, but there's just nothing that jumps out AT ALL in the west.

And Good Lord, for this once in a generation type year to happen in the John Marshall Era. We might be talking about a win in the vicinity of 60 points by John Marshall in the state title game. I would take 50 points and JM if someone offered it.

50? I’d give 100 if JM truly wanted to make a statement. It’s insane, the gap between the west and the east. In my lifetime, this is as bad as it’s been in 2D. A lot of decently good teams but no truly good team.

and @Gridiron60 I don’t believe Union will beat VHS. Union struggles in the half court and VHS should have no real issues scoring. Union played ultra slow tonight, I dunno why. If they do that against a better shooting team in VHS, it could get out of hand.

  7. GC has had the least amount of success this year against the smaller, quicker, guard oriented teams and Graham def fits that bill.

Union is guard heavy and beat them once and had them on ropes at GC, Marion kept it close with good guards so Graham is a tough matchup. GC does better with bigger, physical teams like Wise so Graham has to have some confidence going in, even on road.

55-49 GC over Marion with just over 6 minutes left in the game.  Marion just cut it to 3 before a GC three pointer.  Marion is scrappy as hell.  No other way I can describe them.  Not big, but just quick and scrappy as all get out.

Not a great night for the M7. RV and Wise got easily defeated, Union barely escaped at home and GC is in a tight battle with Marion. Could end up an all SWD final, I can’t see Union beating VHS while Graham can go into GC and win.
