You guys have caught way more games than I have, I have no idea about any team outside of the conference. I can't give any accurate rankings, just know the Bears are playing well right now and have talent. But that damn Wolfpack seems to jus have our number in GBB.

I jus saw that Glenvar handed Radford their only loss and it wasn't particularly close. Are they 2A contenders or was it jus an off night for Radford? I know RE Lee has a dynamite team and Dan River is really good, Radford is a title contender as well but is Glenvar at that level?

I thought the Eastside game was before TN High my bad. Union doesn't beat GC with him, and probably not at Graham either, but after that all the losses were winnable games. With Mitchell on the floor, the Bears will never give up, they respect him too much and he doesn't have an ounce of quit in him. But the lack of interior defense and post scoring means almost all of Unions points come from the guards on the perimeter or driving in the lane. More athletic teams can shut down Gibson, Garrison and Rasnic and really cause Union to struggle to score. With Wes, you could always go to him and he could make his own shot against most defenders. That's the biggest loss for them, his instant offense. Gibson's a great shooter, Garrison can shoot and has shown more athleticism driving in lane than I thought and Rasnic has played very well for his first year and shown he can get to basket but all three aren't really capable of taking over a game. It's made Union more diverse, having to work to get open looks, but against great teams with good defense the offense can be stagnant. Mitchell does so many things so well but he isn't a natural scorer. He isn't a good shooter from any sort of distance and has to be around the rim to be a consistent scorer. There isn't much separation after GC in M7 or after GC, Graham and Grayson in Region D so Union could beat any of the second tier on a given night but the flip side is they could lose to that glut of teams, Abingdon, Wise, Battle, etc...

Can't put Union ahead of Ridgeview, Wolfpack has the Bears number. But I've been pleasantly surprised by how well the girls have played.

Doubtful. The first Eastside game and the TN High game likely end differently if Slagle plays. You said the team wouldn't be better with him, that's jus false. Other kids have stepped up and Union hasn't fallen off a cliff that's true, but any team losing it's leading scorer would suffer.

That's absolutely crazy. Take away any teams leading scorer, a genuine inside-out threat, they will suffer. Slagle was a knock down shooter from distance, was a good ball handler and a reliable post scorer. He was one of the 5-6 best players in the M7. He does everything Rasnic does while being at least six inches taller. The biggest weakness the Union team has is the interior game. Slagle would be a defensive presence inside and help with rebounding. Union has played well but they aren't a threat to make noise outside the conference.

On different note, what's up with Richlands? I never dreamed that both big two sports would be such down years. Is it a lack of talent?

In the win over RV, he just had two lol. He must have used his athleticism to get to the paint, he's not a great shooter. I'm jus sad imaging how much better this team is w Wes Slagle. Not GC-good or close to it, but I think clearly second best M7 team if he's healthy. After GC, Union could've been closed with Graham and Grayson if Slagle is healthy. But impressed by how well Union has played without him. The freshman Rasnic, Garrison and Gibson are fairing much better than I thought. Rasnic is gonna be a good ball player.

I understand being less critical of the home squad but these guys sound like buffoons. I have a feeling many Lee County residents feel as you do, no one wants their radio guys to take shots at other teams.

That's true. It's a very competitive but friendly rivalry. Girls seem to be playing well, the press has flummoxed the Lady Blues and the shots are falling.

Girls need a win after letting RV claw back and win. Should never lose a game you lead 15-2 at end of one. The Union boys are playing decent enough, hopefully they can get a road win against a decent team. If Union wins, what will Phillips say to the BDT? lol

Yeah that person has absolutely no business calling games if they're gonna put down HS kids. That's a shitty thing to do. Broadcasters are supposed to call the game and be as neutral as possible.

But he did great work trying to refine Howard's game. After Hakeem, a lot of people viewed Ewing as one of the best mentors for young post players. He hasn't been impressive so far, but it's still really early.

I believe they still play, I could be wrong but I thought they still scheduled each other. I really like io9, the sci-fi/comic site in the Gizmodo network, as I'm a big nerd and love the comic stuff. I really like Deadspin bc they are afraid to go after imbeciles like Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones. They dont have to worry about having to answer to the leagues. LeBatard is really only guy left on ESPN not afraid to question the NFL, NBA or MLB. Hes a Miami guy and he went hard on Manafort for qllowing the new Marlins owners to buy the team as a revenue grab. Jalopnik is good too, it's kinda like Black Flag but strictly automotive. And some of the Deadspin writers like Dave McKenna are legit journalists and fanastic and guys like Magary are funny. Black Flag did a great job covering the whole Tony Stewart murder stuff.

Twitter is 1,000x better than FB. Facebook is basically one gigantic trashy blog. All the ridiculous false news stories people eat up as fact, the stupid squabbles over moronic stuff and people desperate for attention. Twitter is way better I believe. Topix has been around a long time. It's not really a social network, it's local messageboards for most small towns. It's all anonymous so you can imagine the kind of stuff that gets said.

The girls are playing really well right now, they avenged the Eastside loss and rolled them Wed or Thursday night I can't remember. I believe last night. Maybe they will be more consistent. Not sure they will beat RV, is it in Clintwood or BSG?

I'm not the only person who reads Deadspin here? Cool. Playing for Patrick Ewing will be really cool for him, even if Georgetown struggles. Playing in the Big East, GTown/Cuse, the Garden, etc... would be worth the losing.

A different GC question: does McClung enjoy playing AAU ball more or playing for GC?

It wasn't a full catch and shoot IIRC. I can't find the clip, but the ball was in the air when the time ran out. It's meaningless now tho. Union had a late lead but couldnt close it out, that bucket didn't lose the game. Union not hitting shots late did.
