I'd rather play hard and get beat than to have a trophy handed to me. Just my 2 cents. Proud of the GC kids!

Edited to say ..... it's no fault of the other schools and athletes. It is what it is. They all had great seasons.

100%. Didnt think GC stood a chance....they surprised me with the way they played and battled.  I know the other teams couldnt help the circumstances....but getting a Co Champ trophy is too much like a participation trophy (without even participating).

Congrats to the Devils and congrats to JM....they were just a force this year.

  2. This Hokies team is really bad....and I'll be the first to admit I thought Fuente was a homerun hire for VT.  But now its starting to look like one of the more disappointing hires right up there with Taggart at FSU.  Their recruiting has been abysmal and there doesnt seem to be much life on the sidelines from the coaches and players either one.

So that leads me to these questions......is Fuente a good coach and just not a good fit for VT?   Is there turmoil within between Fuente and Foster and the rest of the coaching staff?  Or was Fuente just a product of good coordinators at Memphis along with a stud QB and turns out hes just not a good HC afterall?

Also, will be interesting to see what direction they go in next year when Foster leaves.

  3. Be interesting to see where things go from here for Zac.  I'm sure there will be offers pouring in over the next few weeks.   Appy State sent one out just a few hours ago.  I'd love to see Zac follow Young to VT and Mac get the chance to leave Georgetown and transfer to VT as well.  Probably a pipe dream but it would be pretty cool for them to finish out their collegiate careers together.

  4. Them first round upsets seem to be a bugaboo for the local fanbase around here....whether its in the NIT to the SuperNerds or a 1 seed to a 16th seed in the big dance.

All poking aside....the tension between these two guys could be cut with a knife.  Be interesting to see if either of them do any shopping around.  It looks as if the chemistry is good with the rest of the players for both of these guys.  It's one another that they struggle with.

Hearing things aren't all sugar plums and fairy tales in DC...wouldn't be surprised if someone goes elsewhere...hard to be the superstar when the other superstar won't pass you the ball...

Regardless, someone might end up getting a fine ball player via "free agency"...

Have you got a pretty reliable source?  I had heard something of the sorts myself but it wasnt from a trusted source yet.

  6. Ray Charles could see that the one player in question wont look the others way.....at all.  And he starts playing hero ball and trying to catch up in the points column near the end of the game if the other superstar is ahead of him in pts total....no matter if the game is still in question or not.  It's been blatantly obvious all year long.   The chemistry between other players is there.....just not with the one that has the little man syndrome.

I would say you are right.  Hope if he leaves he makes the best decision possible for his future.

  7. Congrats to the Bobcats on advancing to the Championship game! Heck of a team and the best of luck.   Congrats to the Devils on a great season....just ran out of gas in the final qtr.  Hate to see Zac go....won't be the same not seeing Ervin or McClung on the court.

  8. GC has came out sputtering in the first half on offense more times than not here lately.  If they can come out firing on all cylinders I think it's a close game.  The Devils have picked up their defense though so maybe if they come out shooting cold they can rely on their defense to keep within striking distance until they heat up.

  9. Martinsville keeping it close was no surprise.  The dogs play great defense and GC played into the game plan of MHS and still found a way to come away with the W.  So that's big time for the Devils.  If someone had told me before the game that GC would play into the MHS style I would have said that GC loses this game.  Great win for the Devils and congrats on a great season to the Dogs.

MHS give Radford all they could stand for 3.5 qtrs the last game and kept it below double digits until the final minutes when a couple 3 pt buckets stretched the lead out.  The dogs were a legit contender.  They held both Radford and now GC below 50 pts.  That's all that needs to be said.

I disagree.  When Zac got hurt, the team could have easily folded.  Instead "role players" became scorers.  If those "role players" continue to take shots and contribute, the sky is the limit.  I think the team became better after the Ervin injury, now if they can put that together with Zac like they did during the 4th qtr at Graham, we can repeat.

Thats the issue though.   Everyone with eyes knows GC is better with Zac and it's not even close.  But the team had developed good chemistry without him and those role players knew they had to step up to win games which in theory should pay dividends.  However, now that hes back.....the role players dont seem to get involved as much (aside from the 4th qtr vs Graham).  If those guys will continue to step up and all contribute now with Zac back in the fold  instead of taking the backseat and watching the Brad and Zac show then yes.....I agree they have a a chance at it again.  But almost anyone that's watched them all year would agree....the team right before Zac went out looked like a shell of what it was at the beginning of the season.  The first glimpse of that same team was the end of the game against the Gmen.  If they can sustain that for 4 qtrs.....its gonna get interesting.

  11. If GC can play close to the way they were playing at the start of the season I like their chances against anyone.  If the same GC team that I've seen as of lately shows up.....the one that chucks up alot of 3s even when they arent going in and doesnt work for good shots....the season ends for the Devils this Friday.  This team is very capable of another title but I havent seen that drive from them since December.  The dogs will turn the dial up on defense so the Devils better be ready for the pressure.

  12. GC leads 22-17 at the half.  Terrible shooting from both teams. Im guessing Graham is in as bad of a slump as GC here lately.  No way this game should be that low scoring even if the defenses were legit.....and neither are what i would call legit.  Hopefully the action picks up the 2nd half.  I know GC is capable of playing better ball and I'm certain Geaham can too.
