  1. That’s the guy. He came in right before kickoff. It was fairly early in the game when Turner had him removed. Like someone said above, Union has way to many people hanging out on the sidelines any way, but this guy stood out as being out of place. We have a few amateur photographers that take pics and post for parents etc but this guy was not a local.
  2. I’m glad someone else caught that other than me. It happened on my end of the field. Very strange situation. The guy obviously said or did something to get Travis fired up and he had him ran off. Even confronted the official about it. I’ve never seen the man before so he obviously wasn’t a local guy.
  3. Big shoutout to a heck of a Richlands team from this Union fan! That was the best defensive game I have ever seen. Both defenses were spectacular. A couple of big plays on both sides but other than that they both had it locked down. I hope this game was an eye opener for the Bears.
  4. Just to throw my 2 cents in on the guy with 9 total posts (probably all on this thread), Union’s loss to Clarke Co was a state semifinal (not quarterfinal) and Clarke Co was a far better team than most realize. Back on topic, should be a good game Friday. Safe travels to Richlands folks and dress warm!
  5. We’ll just have to disagree on this one.
  6. You just proved my point. It takes hard work and dedication to be any type of college prospect, much less a D1. Sure the size is there but no college program is interested in a player that won’t put the work in. There’s been plenty of those types of players over the years. I’m not saying he is not a great HS football player by any means.
  7. I hate to disagree with one of our own but Jeb isn’t a D1 football prospect by any means. He’s good in 2a football because he’s bigger but against a good offensive lineman he would be average at best.
  8. I’m gong Union 28-14. A couple of things, it seems from the last few weeks Richlands is having trouble scoring points and Unions D is better than anyone around. I also think Unions offense is better now than it ever has been this season. They can come at you so many different ways. I think it will be close through the half with Union pulling away. Go Bears!
  9. Taking the whole who needs who to win situation out I really think GC is the better team in this one. Central looked really bad against Union. I just don’t see them beating anybody. GC 21 Central 6
  10. I agree with Ryan. It shows a great deal of commitment from VT for Fuente to come to Wise. Especially knowing what kind of game it would be. I think it comes down to VT and UGA. Either choice would be a tremendous opportunity for Mitchell. As for the special teams coach showing interest in our kicker, I heard similar talk. Prime example of other players benefiting from Mitchell’s exposure.
  11. I hope everybody on this board was a Rye Cove Eagle fan tonight!! Congrats to Coach Toney and the Eagles! He’s one of the good guys and they deserved to break that streak!
  12. Lee had the perfect game plan in the 1st half on defense. Much credit to them for that. I think they by far were the best defensive team Union has faced. I think Lee made it more clear that the Bears will have to come up with something resembling a passing game to make a deep playoff run. The Bears just were to tough and I think Lee just wore down in the 2nd half. But holy cow, how good is the Union defense? With the exception of a deep pass that was tipped and the Wr made a good play I bet Lee was under 100 yds of offense. On another note, it was a well played game. Nothing got dirty or chippy that I could see. Nothing better than rivals going at it but respecting each other in the process. Best wishes to the young man from Lee that was injured!!
  13. I'm just blown away by comments that say that this will be the toughest game Marion faces yet this season. That doesn't say much of strength of schedule for the #1 ranked team in 2D. I've not seen Marion play and not a knock on our friends from GC (lord knows that's been done enough on this board) but if Marion struggles against GC every other team in the M7 district should beat them. And that's not even considering Richlands, Va High, Graham, etc.
  14. My aren't we salty today! Best player SINCE, yes. Without a doubt. Best player ever. I don't think so. Talford, Ervin, Trazel Silvers and several others come to mind over the years. I don't buy the nonsense above about McClung, from what I've seen he's a pretty good kid. Is he a little cocky, sure. But heck, what kid wouldn't be that had that kind of game. He's worked hard and earned the attention he's getting so I hope he enjoys every second of it.
  15. I agree with everything that’s been said. Union really dominated from start to finish, just couldn’t hang onto it. The defense was spectacular! Big win!
  16. I had not heard that Lester was hurt. It must’ve happened in practice or maybe in a JV game. I don’t understand why if we were serious about him playing some quarterback we would have him playing in JV games. I still say Qualls is our best option with Mitchell in the wildcat occasionally. I think tonight’s game will help us come playoff time.
  17. Biggest thing that stood out to me about that article was how the MW coach talked about Lester. I thinking he’s looking at the wrong player. Not knocking him by any means but Lester is no threat all when he’s in the game. He’s just too inexperienced and undersized.
  18. IMO this game is what stands in front of a 10-0 season for the Bears. I think the Bears are really clicking right now, with the only hole being in the secondary on deep balls. I will say 31-28 Bears on a late FG. Our kicker showed last week that he can hit it from 45 to 50. I think Turner starts going to him more down the stretch.
  19. Ok help me out here. I read above that 8 teams advance in each region. I assume standard bracket 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7 etc. in round 1 and same for 2. What happens after that? Does only region champ advance or 2 from each like in basketball?
  20. Thanks for posting! I was hoping somebody would get things started. I'm no good with the numbers so I rely on brighter minds..lol.. Interesting start to the season. I definitely see some great 1st and 2nd round games shaping up in 2A.
  21. I agree that Ridgeview came to play. Union looked bad in the first half IMO, turnovers and special teams kept RV in it. Luckily Union came out the half strong and the defense really stepped up in the 2nd. I may be the only Union fan that thinks this way but I don't like our QB and offensive situation at all. Playing 3 different QB's in a dozen different sets just kills any rhythm we can get. Sure #82 can go score on average/mediocre teams but that's not going to work down the road IMO. I still say our best bet is #10 at QB, #82 #4 and #80 at WR and running the ball from the spread. Of course, possibly rolling #82 in occasionally at QB as a spark. I just don't see #21 getting the job done at QB against a good team. I know arm-chair QB's are a dime a dozen, I just don't think the Bears are taking advantage of the talent they have. It's hard to be critical when they are winning but there's a few tough games coming up and much better competition come playoff time.
  22. I hated to hear this news today. Really puts a damper on a promising season. Not saying the Bears are done, and they will still be better than most but it's a setback none the less. I agree that Qualls would be my pick. He's a veteran, has some qb experience, a good arm and like was mentioned earlier is much more mobile than Turner. Bailey just had the qb mentality. Lester may start at Letcher but I don't see it lasting. He can run but having him back there will limit our passing game. The 3rd option, if I am right on who it is, is a great athlete but hasn't played any qb since crunch bunch days. Gonna be a test of our coaching staff I think to find the right fit.
  23. Sorry for the rant above. Just don't like that stuff. I think your assessment EH31 is spot on. I think Union did dominate most of the game, especially on D. Offensively the play calling for the Bears was questionable IMO but I'm not a coach so I won't criticize. Richlands offense just couldn't seem to get anything going. The TD was a busted play that worked out. I was glad to see a classy, well played game and I agree these two will meet again. But I think Union is 2-3 tds better this year.
