  1. Greeneville 47 Springfield 7 early 3rd Cade Ballard is outstanding. If he were 4-5 inches taller, he would be on the wish list of a lot of P5 schools. Greeneville will roll again next year. They have almost everyone back.
  2. I've emailed the VH$L several times over the years and have never received a reply. Yes, I don't understand the VH$L's reluctance to have a 2 day event at one site. I enjoy the TSSAA event, and want to take in the Georgia and Florida championships one day as well. With Liberty moving up into the FBS, that would free up their facility without worrying about them hosting a playoff game. It's pretty much center of the state, seats around 19K IIRC, and Lynchburg has plenty of hotel and restaurant options.
  3. Tickets are $12, and good for three games on that day. Parking is $10. If you go, dress in layers. I've been several times, and it's a great bargain. You used to be able to leave between games, so I suppose they still allow that. IIRC they either stamped our hands or gave us a bracelet to get back in. Would go this year, but really want to see Union & Appomattox. That's a little too much driving for me these days. Here is everything you need to know. http://tssaasports.com
  4. I'd liken what Union needs to do as to what Appalachia did to Bath County back in the....well.....a long time ago. Or maybe what I saw Appalachia do to Sullivan Central in a scrimmage years ago when they got the opening possession, and with SC operating the scoreboard that day, consumed the entire 1st quarter and maybe 2 minutes of the 2nd quarter to get a TD. Still the most time consuming drive I've ever seen anywhere, and just maybe in the history of football.
  5. They even had to give PV the home side stands and the game was played on a field that amounted to nothing more than a pig pen.Thomas Jones would have probably went for 250 yards on a decent field that day. In addition, it's about an hour's drive further for Poquoson to salem than it is from BSG. Whoopty damn do....also, I can't recall anyone from BSG bitching about going to Harrisonburg HS or JMU to play teams that were about an hour away.
  6. Stunned at the outcome today. I thought it would be a one score game that could go either way. Union just dominated both sides of the LOS, and as has been pointed out, tackled well in space. I really thought that barring turnovers, the game was over in the 2nd quarter after Union made it 14-0 on Mitchell's 5 yard run, and there were several Graham defenders with their hands on their hips and shaking their heads. Graham has some serious play makers, but its tough to get them the football when you're getting manhandled up front.
  7. Helluva game last night. Greeneville got down 21-0 but rallied for a 35-31 win. Cade Ballard was 17-21 for 304 yards, but the star of the game was a cornerback who had 4 sensational interceptions, two of which were in the end zone, one of which was on a long pass where he ripped the football away from the receiver's hand in mid-air, and one which was the game clincher. Glad Union - Graham is on Saturday, as it'll free us up for either Marshall Co at Greeneville, Oakland at Maryville, Red Bank at Alcoa, Gaffney at Dorman in Spartanburg, or South Iredell at AC Reynolds in Asheville.
  8. We're going there tonight. Considered Union-Marion, but this could be a wild one. I've seen Cade Ballard play several times, and if he were 4 inches taller, he'd have tons of FBS offers. Even at his height, he could be a nice fit in the right offense.
  9. I wear my shorts late in the season as well, but it was really nice sitting there with sandals and a short sleeved shirt to boot. Vero Beach has a great atmosphere for a Class 8A school. It's the only public high school for the city, and the home stands were full, and they had people on the visitors side as well. Poor Olympia probably didn't even have all the parents there. The concessions were interesting. The school operated two, but only sold drinks and snacks like candy bars, nuts, etc. but they had several food trucks surrounding one end zone. Wish we had waited to eat supper at the stadium.
  10. Vero Beach 42 Orlando Olympia 7 Hafltime Vero is really good. 10 -0 and they went to Chesapeake and beat Oscar Smith earlier this year. There's a lot to be said for watching playoff football in Florida. It's 74 degrees and I'm wearing shorts and sandals.
  11. Vero beach 14 Orlando Olympia 0 mid 1st in the FHSAA Class 8A playoffs
  12. And with the Nashville/Murfreesboro area continuing to explode, I think even the Knoxville area powerhouses like Maryville, Fulton, Catholic, etc. will have a tough go of it in 5A & 6A. Alcoa and Greeneville will continue to be successful because of the great organization and amount of money/backing they have at the 3A & 4A level. Not many schools at that level can come close to that.
  13. I'm sure they are. Round 4 is for us fans to worry about.....
  14. I'm just going off what I saw at Appomattox last November. I'd love to be wrong, but I saw a program that looked light years ahead. I know that was last year, but IMO the only way Union (I haven't seen Graham) could hope to hang with them would be to 3 & 4 yard them to death.
  15. I think that's something that is lost on many people. I don't see anyone out of Region D winning a state title this year, or maybe in the near future. The economic situation of the region plays a big role in this with what will likely be enrollments that continue to decline.
  16. On Senior Night at The Swamp in Folkston, GA. Charlton Co. 41 Lanier Co 23 Glad we stopped here on the way to Florida. Two Class A schools, but Charlton has a lot of tradition, and a really nice facility with a good looking field house and palm trees in one of the end zones. Looked like most of the town was there too. They finish the regular season at 8-2. They didn't have much size with the exception of 4-5 guys, but they had a QB who was 6'3 with a good arm and even better wheels, and 3-4 guys who could really scoot after catching the football. I also talked to a guy at the fence tonight who had a lot of Colts attire on. I asked him how he came to be a Colts fan and he said his son plays for them. Turns out his son is Chris Milton, who went to Georgia Tech and has been on the Colts roster for a couple of seasons
  17. That's for sure. I've been to a few games there with my buddy, at the old place as well as the newer facility. Got to listen to a couple of the pregame speeches from Philip Haywood. It's no wonder kids want to play for him.
  18. We drove to Appomattox last year. Spent the night in Farmville, went to Appomattox Courthouse and toured the grounds, toured the battlefield, ate at a couple of good places. Had a good time, but yeah, it's a long trip, especially if it's a 1st round game.
  19. Not that anyone in SWVA played them, but I have a buddy who used to play for Belfry. I looked to see who they were playing in the 1st round and it's a 3-7 team out of Bardstown, which is nearly 4 hours away. That's a long way to go to get your ass kicked.
  20. Agree about this is his best coaching job. I saw them against Central, Happy Valley and East. They've had a lot of injuries this year and have overcame them. If he wants it, I'd like to see Norris get a shot at the coaching job at the new school. I usually catch a couple of their games every year and his teams always play hard and are usually in position to make plays. Sometimes they really don't have the athleticism to actually make the plays, but they are well coached.
  21. What the heck has happened to Lebanon? I haven't seen them play in several years and we don't get any coverage of them much here in Kingsport. Declining enrollment numbers, a run of less than stellar athletic talent, coaching, or a combination of that?
  22. I see where Mitchell had another punt return for a TD. Why do people still punt to him?
  23. CHS is located on the hill behind the Super Walmart, thus the Walmart Warriors. As for the hate, I'll defer to other fans as I have only seen them play once in their existence.
  24. Volunteer has always been a train wreck. It's a tough gig with it having a very rural student population and not many really good athletes and you're trying to compete with some of the teams that they have that have much better feeder systems and grass roots programs. Even when they have some decent athletes, schools like DB and Cherokee are on the prowl for them. I used to work with a lady who had a son that was a decent player, and she said he was approached several times as a freshman and sophomore from DB coaches about transferring. As for Barry Jones, I've known him for quite some time and had dozens of interactions with him over the years and have worked with several of his friends fom high school. . He was one of my daughter's teachers at PV Primary, and she adored him. I talked to him at the Sullivan East - Fulton playoff game last year, and he was very upbeat about his program, and was basically the same Barry Jones that I've always known. I suppose people can change, but IMO much of what is being said is coming from a bunch of overreacting, meddling parents.
  25. I think you're right. I believe #20 lost three and #10 lost 1. Not sure who #20 is, but that kid can fly. Needs to work on protecting the football, but when he ran down that MW back it looked like he was on a motorcycle.
