  1. This won't come out till Friday, but this is what I just sent to Steve Wilmoth as I am part of the Tri-Cities Sports pickin' panel this season: Science Hill at Union This is a very interesting interstate matchup. Union is a combination of two former southwest Virginia dynasties (Appalachia and Powell Valley) and the Bears since consolidation in 2013 haven't lost much of a step from their two predecessors. The aura of Bullitt Park is magical. The atmosphere is electric. What will the folks from Johnson City think when they arrive and only see their Toppers warming up on the field? Will they be intimidated when the Bears show up about 15 minutes from game time on a bus arriving from their practice field and walk straight down the middle of the field to Hell's Bells by AC/DC? The folks in Big Stone Gap and Appalachia live, breathe, sleep and eat Union Bear football. If you're making the trip from Johnson City, arrive early and witness the Union tradition of the "Running of the Bears". From experience, it is awesome to watch. The Bears are the preseason favorite to win the ultra competitive Mountain 7 district, but the enrollment difference is just too hard to overlook. Science Hill (around 2400 students) to Union's (around 600). The Hilltoppers face a stiff challenge from the feisty and hungry Bears, but escape Bullitt Park with a win. Science Hill 28, Union 14
  2. Not banned I don't reckon. Lol, but I pissed a lot of folks off down there last year. 30 of them surely stands a better chance to whoop my old hind end than I do them.
  3. Just simply when you have 2800 or so students, there's more athletes walking the halls than at a school with around 600. I know Mo West was a "6A" when Union played them, but they were not truly a 6A school. By Virginia standards they would've been 4A at the time I think. The good news is that Tyler Moon graduated or SH would have won by 5 scores with Moon scoring 7 TD's. He was literally their only playmaker last year and D-B couldn't do anything with him. As far as coaching, Carter is a meh coach. He beats D-B and that's all they care about in JC. He could go 1-9 every season but as long as that 1 is against D-B, I'm sure he gets a raise. It just all boils down to the ratio of kids... Hard for a school as small as Union to overcome a school as big as SH. Hope they prove me wrong.
  4. Yep, it means more to Union than the Helltoppers. In Tennessee, the only games that TRULY matter are the conference games, since that determines the seeding. This game means nothing to Science Hill. This is the game I will probably be going to on Friday, since at the very least I will get a seat on the visiting side since the Hell won't travel. And I won't be going to Jeff County Friday night for "reasons". Hope Union spanks that @$$ for them, but I believe the Helltoppers win by at least two scores.
  5. I went to the Middlesboro and Harlan County game. Middlesboro is solid but not great. I think Gate City wins this one by two scores.
  6. It's always so funny to see Ridgeview folks complain about West Ridge on social media... Come to think of it... what don't Ridgeview fans complain about? Lol.
  7. Hope he gets playing time for us... hope he's the guy we've been looking for to finally get us past the Helltoppers... 😄
  8. It is a typo.... Virginia High is actually going TO Jenkins, not the other way around.
  9. It didn't stop me from going there and you heathens ran him off... I will never forgive you and the mayor. Lol I am just trying to be funny by the way. Not intending any ill will.
  10. I thought only Richlands folk got mad at each other. I mean there was Player daddy vs. coach this year. And who could ever forget the titanic battle of whole town of Richlands vs. owner of Bearded Moose.
  11. In Tennessee, district tournaments are double elimination. This year, the region tournament also became double elimination. The Sectional (sweet 16) became best of three this year. The state tournament has always been double elimination.
  12. Wise Central 2, Bruton 0 FINAL Lady Warriors play Clarke County tomorrow for the championship!
  13. Wise Central 1, Bruton 0 ~20 minutes remaining
  14. Runner up? They got bounced in the quarters...
  15. Rye Cove and Lunenburg Central are still scoreless heading to the 11th
  16. Should have updated this just semifinal updates... forgot Galax and Giles are playing today as well... my bad
  17. Tazewell 5, Page County 0 FINAL Lady 'Dogs are heading to the championship!
  18. I figure they will get Auburn. Auburn will probably be their toughest test this season in the state of Virginia. Lebanon should still be favored though.
