Going into last Friday I felt GC's most pressing issues were O line play, play calling, & QB play. After Friday I feel like line play & play calling have improved - although everyone in the stadium knew Akers would call something ridiculous & gift Abingdon with a turnover just before halftime. Anyway... Baby steps. Is it weird that GC has no medical staff whatsoever?? QB was obviously banged up our there....

GC showed significant improvement; should have lead at the half. Much better o line play. Bad fundamentals. Keep grinding, Blue...

The 2019 GC HC should make an appointment at every elementary school around the last day of school and put on a ridiculous presentation. Set up the 5 championship trophies. Blast the fight song. Roll out the cheerleaders. Have the seniors come out WWE style. Give a crazy speech & run around like you were on Ellen. If you want numbers, be proactive.

Reed is not the greatest head coach alive, but he is the best that GC can do. All the same numbskulls are still around from the brilliant decision to hire CA in the first place. If given the opportunity, they'd flubb it again. GC gets a little better & grows up a little bit. They've already lost their two best players in #35(P) & #55(LB\OL). Nine more weeks, fellows; let's keep showing up, cheering, & spending money.

Seems to me #2, #12, & #10 are ballplayers; we just can't seem to get them the ball.

Mance is a math teacher. I doubt he has been recruited by any other school system. He works at Richlands because that's where he lives. It's not like another school system is going to recruit him away... Why move your home & family to make a thousand more dollars? This is why I am curious as to whether Akers will stay with Scott County in January. Not much demand for drivers ed teachers.

School systems should return to the policy of requiring pe teacher to coach. It offsets having what is otherwise a comically easy job.

Coaching stipends are listed on every school system site. Gate City's head coach makes a little under $6,000. Va High pays about $10,000. Most schools fall into that range. Assistant coaches probably average $1,500 if they get paid at all. Teaching salaries depend on education and experience.

That's one way to put it. Another would be to say the principal's nephew and all the other nepotism cases assigned to his staff were not very good coaches. Reed never picked his own staff, & both Reeds are known for chasing off bum coaches. Make no mistake, Darren Reed is the hardest working coach alive, but he has all the charm & diplomacy of a snapping turtle. I'm sure the Thought of Darren Reed sends Cissyfur Akers scrambling for the want adds. Matter of fact, we need a new thread.
