This game will tell alot for both. VA High if offesnively schemed right, has way too much speed for PH. PH is big, strong, and will pound their running game, which basically Tazewell did. I don't see PH stopping VH offensively if VH implements intermediate pass game.
Graham would be well advised to bring that “real defense”, whatever the Hell that means, to the second half of their games. Graham looked impenetrable in the first half, and looked very beatable in the second. That tends to happen at times when your starters haven’t played deep into the 2nd half for most of their careers.
REAL DEFENSE - Means one that didn't give up 28 points a game last season, plus 47 last Friday night! Graham gave up 250 yards of total offense against a much better offense. So, yeah, Graham's defense is "REAL"!!
I 100% take my roast on that. Tazewell gave the "ASS KICKING"! I didn't see it coming, nor did most on here. Hope they have a great year, and it looks like they will be much improved for SWD. Friday night against Graham will tell how much!!
If Tazewell upsets Graham, I’ll literally have a heart attack. I’m not putting Tazewell down at all, but I’m not sugar coating nothing either. Tazewell is very talented and athletic this year, but it’s hard to beat a team of this caliber. As Chase Collins says, to beat the man, you have to be the man. Tazewell can beat graham, but they’ll have to work their asses off for it.
Tazewell will see what real defense looks like this week at all levels. I don’t see them running the ball that well. Graham 35-7
Did VA High have Jones? I know Tazewell ended up taking Creasy out from what I read on here.
Yes…he played entire game. As was said earlier on this board, it was untrue that he had a sprained hip flexor. Jones is totally fine. If it wasn’t for Davidson and Jones on defense, the score would have been even worse. VA High has a lot to figure out for the rest of the season. You can easily take away their strength of going deep. Their screen game worked really well, but they barely used it.
Defensively, any team can be at linebacker depth running the ball very easily.
Sprained hip flexor from what I’ve heard, and if that’s accurate, that’s something that isn’t going to be 100% by November, much less by Friday. One of those injuries where he may well be able to play but will cause him a great deal of discomfort and some loss of mobility.

There is going to be a bit of shifting in the M7. I think Central falls a bit and Union moves up and, no one is expecting it, but I’m hearing good things about Ridgeview’s program and it’s future.
Interested to see how the Bulldog line holds up for Tazewell. I would imagine the Bulldogs will try to get rid of the ball quick again this year if the line is still having issues. Lineplay willl be the big question. Dogs should be pretty stout at linebacker and the skill positions on offense and defense. The linebackers will have to make plays, but they should be able to do well against most teams. Teams will have trouble passing on Tazewell this year. If the lineplay is solid, they will have a very good team. If the lineplay is questionable, They will still go 6-4 or 7-3, the athleticism will make up for it. Scrimmaging the likes of Radford and seeing how they match up physically will ne a good gauge for them right off the bat

The 2 on offense (Mills, Mullins) were WRs, and there are a couple of sophomores (who just recently competed at the state indoor meet) who are primed to step into those positions. The entire OL returns, and there are 2 solid 8th graders that should provide great depth.
The 4 on defense may present sone early season difficulty, but those stepping in did get reps last fall.
Depending on how Week 1 goes, I’d say 2nd or 3rd in the SWD.
If the rumor I heard is true then wow just wow.. he might be asked to step down to save a little face but no one in their right mind would walk away with that team.
I don't think it is rumor...Think it is fact! It's shameful at best, and Dickenson County should be embarrassed for the way they have treated him!
Both teams didn't take many easy OOC games but Union played a tougher slate I think. Aside from the M7 schedule, Abingdon played East, TN High, VHS, Christiansburg, Graham, Dorman and Bearden (Arbys), Volunteer.
Union played Unico Co, East, Burton, Science Hill, Greeneville Volunteer Bearden (Arbys), East Rock and Oak Hill red. So take out Arby's and East, Abingdon played THS, VHS, Graham, Christiansburg and Union played Unico, Science Hill, Burton, East Rock and Oak Hill. SH and East Rock are better than any team Abingdon played outside of Arbys.
Basketball 1st team is a 10 man team normally in district. The debate of post season rewards is normally one of the most enjoyable threads on this board. Lots of good points. Enjoy reading!!
Same thing for my opinion. As long as Greg Tester is in SWVA and not the Head Coach of some team in football, it's well worth the call/well worth the attempt. Man simply knows to much about pigskin. He's going to do well whatever the school is. For Lebanon fans that may know, whatever happened to Scott Allen, the great football player and basketball player that was on those Lebanon State Teams in the early 90's? Didn't he go into coaching/education?
Scott is the principal at EB Stanley MS in Abingdon, VA - Very content at what he is doing! Watching his son grow up and helping with his athletic maturation! Great dude for sure!
