  1. It's not rocket science. You can have problems from inside or the outside. Unfortunately I believe they've had both for some time in this case. Hope they get it going the right direction.
  2. I know the younger anderson plays, but they had another big guy last year coming up. Horton? Other than those couple, they wouldn't be very tall on the floor but quick and scrappy.
  3. I'm going to say it again, I don't believe RH changes/adapts their scheme as much as would appear. If it's going rt/lt or inside/outside, they're blocking down and/or kicking out. A lot of their success is simple math. Count the number of players in the direction desired and add one/two more on them pulls and traps and odds are in your favor. Radford did the same thing to keep Clements/CCC in the box. Graham did that to Union's defense as well. They didn't worry so much about backside just outnumbered playside and ran it. Simple football, with a stud back (clements/clark). Their defense struggled simply because of what they are, a power run team. I'm sure they see spread all the time but day in and day out since they were 9yo, it's been power football. It's a mindset that played a huge role plus some gifted athletes that aren't often seen in 1A where they've been. Take away a couple of breakdowns, could have went the other way just as easy.
  4. Don't know what the enrollment numbers were at Pennington before consolidation, but with the low numbers now at Lee I couldn't imagine they were much different than current numbers. With that, Pennington should have been whooping 1A worse than they were.
  5. RH did what I thought they were capable of this season. Region 2A and 2B usual contenders are about the same but weren't as strong as in years past. Those two are very cyclical. Good none the less. Throwing a fundamentally sound bunch in the mix that loves to run the ball and stays disciplined for the most part on defense is hard to stop. RH is a fun bunch to watch. They try to end every play going forward. I imagine they'll evolve a little on both sides of the ball as time goes on and different athletes come and go. Getting beat in the State Championship, well, I believe they've handled the transition well. Congrats and good luck moving on
  6. I don't know the ins and outs of the old southwest or who was in it but I think when the Highlands was created and Lee came out swinging, it made for some enemies quick. At that time, Gate City was controlling the district/region and weren't accustomed to losing so I'm sure the two fan bases were not receptive of one another. Miss those kind of rivalries and crowds. You knew there was a game on Friday, lights were out in town(s) but the stadium lights were on.
  7. Defensively, if rh doesn't do well in space they're in trouble. If they can stop Radford consistently, then they win on ground and pound. Just watching them, I don't think it's as much they adjust blocking scheme as it is just imposing their will. They are going to run what they know and don't care what's on the other side. Fairly simple, but they're old school tough. Gonna go either way, 2 score difference.
  8. looked like a simple plan, Front 6/7 keep clements inside the box. DB's pass coverage all day. appeared everyone done their jobs well.
  9. at least if it's Karl Childres, there's documented footage that he's got some experience, and as a plus we know why the Richlands war wagon slowed down. "Ain't got no gas in it"
  10. heard some guy from Louisiana Kline was his name I believe.
  11. The way that offense has evolved, whatever QB is in there will be part of the running game. Not many as tough as Rey, but there are a couple there that are close speed-wise and throw decent enough to progress and take over. Gr & U near the top again with everyone else trying to chip away. It'll be an interesting year for sure next season.
  12. Riverheads offensive scheme is tough on LB's and as good as Radford's LB's are, it's tough the way RH blocks. They pull quiet a bit, but mix it up with some straight zone blocking (big on big) LB's have to make a quick decision and commit to it and hope they're right. OL for RH is fun to watch, good feet, quick, big, and don't miss many blocks. They're perfectly content with 4 yards a carry while making a defense respect both sides and be accountable for everyone in the backfield. Radford will have to make several stands and hope for a couple of turnovers, otherwise RH will absolutely eat the clock and milk the game.
  13. I'm sure that Graham was prepared to throw the ball to keep Radford honest, it just didn't work. Only a handful of plays that didn't look so good, but also a few missed INT's for Radford. Someone calling the plays got carried away. Clements was still getting good yardage, but I believe the help they were needing was to get the other backs involved. You're right though, the QB has been mobile the past several years, creating all kinds of trouble. I figured early on if clements could throw, he'd been back there but that wasn't the case.
  14. Better teach them boys to bear crawl and hold their ground. Riverheads ain't doing anything different, coming straight at people until they stop it, then going to the other side. I like watching them, it's a simple offense but executed well. Run inside/ outside, rt/lt, little misdirection, don't get fancy but keep defenses honest.
  15. Didn't play bad, Radford just didn't make the little mistakes, Graham did. Little things like punts and penalties for false starts, dropped passes, etc. A week ago, clicking well but this week has a few hiccups at the worst time. Margin of error was small, price was big. Good season, good luck to Radford.
  16. Not so much luck, 1D had a bunch of teams capable of making it to the regional title game. Just not enough to knock off honaker. Honaker was the best in a year when everyone else was average. Ph, gru, rr, hol, etc. All close to equals, but still a step behind this season.
  17. To play on that current offense, gotta be able to run and take a few shots. Not many as tough as Anderson or there. I'm old school but I still think a pro I with play action for a run- heavy team suited them better. Ran the option a couple times with 0 resistance. It's a lost art just like throwing to a back. Both forgotten parts of the offense today, but still very effective.
  18. Convenient turf is, but football is meant to be on grass, green grass. Hate Bermuda even though it's a little tougher and heals quickly.
  19. would be a nice tribute to the to the other half of the contributing community, but what do you do about seating? no way you sit together (soccer). considering the old man in yellow flying the 2-finger salute for whatever reason yesterday, it would/could be just as bad if not worse. bullitt park is a special place, but considering the history, it's not been as special to Union as it was to PV or even App for that matter. I don't think Union's issue of getting out of the region will be solved by switching venues. That gap is wider than 4 miles between stadiums, and shows no sign of slowing down until WV expands to encompass Graham. They're consistent as any program ever was. Their play is nearing what PV and App did in the 90's like it or not. If they can pull it off again this season, then it's dang close.
  20. good point about their db's but i believe the crew up front in the box is good enough to counter-balance if you will.
  21. saying it now, Graham 34 Radford 20 Radford won't stop the run much like Union this past week and Graham is better up front so there it is.
  22. Honaker showing some signs of struggle the past few weeks, not so much yesterday, but ph and rr(x2). I'm on the side of Galax being tested by bigger and better while improving throughout the season giving them a little advantage. May be wrong and I hope so because I'd like to see Region D bring 2 home.
  23. They can't be loud at home, might as well do it on the road.
  24. Graham played well, clements is tough but he didn't have an option. Union's defense didn't perform up to their usual standard mainly because they refuse to adjust. Graham passing as basic as it gets, but no adjustments on front and Graham controlled the los. Good Luck next week. Still say region c can't handle region d.
  25. Glenvar had the right game plan, just didn't stick to it on offense or defense. They played scared last couple series of d, and went away from pounding the ball earlier but came back doing so.
