  1. Going back and watching those games now, did creasy finish any of those? Looks like he went out for rh and grah, not watched prince yet.
  2. It's been weird for a few weeks. I can pull out up on internet explorer but not on phone.
  3. it's like everything else, you get what you pay for. Surely they don't let 9 awards just sit and not invest in some athletes. Maybe I'm wrong, but if you can't land or make the local top tier talent want to come to UVA-Wise, then why go after talent that's out of your area? A lot of locals do wash out, just as athletes from afar so that's not really a good excuse to not recruit locally. They still host the fca all-star game? It's full of seniors that may/may not be highly recruited, but none the less are just tough kids that might be worth taking a chance on. The other side is parents who think that their kid is better than UVA-Wise or local school in general. There is a huge gap in D1, D2, D3. Just the same, there is a big gap from High School to college. There's always going to be exceptions, but most often freshman aren't ready for college level play. I don't think anyone plays a JV type schedule with red-shirts anymore but that would be an advantage compared to not playing in a competitive setting and only practicing all year. I think part of the problem was created years ago when I believe they were NAIA and seemed to recruit harder for higher level drop-outs than local as well. Nothing wrong with recruiting as far as possible, but make more effort to snatch up locals first. Affordability I'm sure is an issue as well, but not even sure what it costs now. Other local schools are quite expensive but I don't think the price is as high at UVA-Wise. The campus, community, administration, town, etc have to go all in or it's useless. Success comes with a price and until they start investing it's not going to change. Words are cheap, put your money where your mouth is. I'd love to go to a loud college game here close to home a few times a year. SWVA loves football and the environment so figure it out UVA-Wise.
  4. I don't think Pennington had any runner-up finishes other than 76. They lost a couple of Semi's in the 80s but I don't think they made the state game.
  5. Team speed is no doubt in favor of the G-men but if GC can contain the run game then they've got as good a chance as any to be in the game late. I think G-men are a little better up front than GC and could be the real difference in the game especially defensively. I believe G-men pull away late 28-7
  6. I'm sure it's been said more than once, but it's coincidental that Richlands has fallen on hard times while most everyone around them has found success consistently and as of late. Graham, Taz, Honaker, and Grundy have been solid the past couple of years during the slide in claypool hill. Hard times won't last forever but the foundation is there to rebuild in a decent time frame for whomever gets the chance to sit in the captain's chair. I still think a couple of m7 coaches looking to move up/around will be in the mix.
  7. I don't think anyone keeps up with the stats as far as targets downfield. How many yards could be attributed to short spot pass-type plays to say "Harris" who just graduated? It's not exactly as if he's been taking defenses apart. On average how much they throwing a game? It's not uncommon in today's game to see 25-30 attempts a game but if you neglect the run game you're not going far. The coach is utilizing what he's got, and maybe he's boosting the #s a little in the kid's favor, good for him. What happens in the event that he's not on the field or the opposing team has a good pass defense and is able to pressure the QB? I think it's a case of simply neglecting an aspect of the game but hey if the kid hits 4000 a year and fails to make a region title game on a yearly basis it may be time to go another route and add some more wrinkles. Good luck to both
  8. This should gain traction. Lol Hope they find coach asap
  9. I do believe when Lusk was there, he tried to get a few locals but he didn't inherit a great program either. He didn't set the conference on fire either after a couple of years kinda back in the same old spot. Coach Robbins is there in some form or fashion and a wealth of knowledge whether you like the guy or not he knows football, players, and how to establish a program. Why not use your resources that are still around? Colley, Robbins, Jones, Housewright, Colobro, Salyers, etc. They've never coached college that I know of but rather than hiring a new guy without some old-school mentality, call on some local proven coaches. What's the worst that could happen? Another sub-par showing?
  10. yes, that system let the best 4 in but the fact that a weak district could have a champion that played 1st round at home was a joke. Just like it's always A vs B and C vs D in the semi's. It should be points all the way through. Yea it would mean some travels but play at neutral sites or let the host team be at the nearest college campus close by on a good field without nasty conditions. I think the semi pairings happened as the result of all too often having Region D schools (other sports than football) in the state finals causing the other side of the state to be a little butt hurt, but on the flipside helped the argument that west was indeed the best.
  11. Think that ship already sailed once. That college wants 0 from swva.
  12. Start the season 2 weeks earlier. Also have a better chance with the weather being a little more favorable. With the year round stuff now, you've got more time than the required 20 practices. Keep 6 but not 8. Top 4 was and is all it should be. There's little chance 1 vs 8 etc. 1D was almost an exception in scott county the past 24 hours, but those are few and far between.
  13. If the Graham game earlier is an indicator, creasy don't handle pressure well. He's got good numbers, but union seems to be very stingy on defense.
  14. See a lot of similarities with rv and taz, will be interesting
  15. Watched on the tube, hard to watch. Lee gonna have to beef up that schedule, but they're getting a little consistency over the past few years but seem kinda stuck.
  16. Eastside and rr both have a legit shot, called it.
  17. I could see him at TE for sure, but when they put him out wide, he's out of his element. He's a banger, blocking and catching tough passes in traffic. The way he's been used this season, he'd been more beneficial at tackle.
  18. Another one score type game, Could go either way. Ph and rr have chipped away at them, now rr gets a fresh shot one week later.
  19. He's a fullback/h-back I put 4 at tailback. Agreed though, let him pound it inside, he's not a feature- type but tough in his element between tackles. #4 is a quick scat- back who needs 20 touches a game including the pass game.
  20. Hate to hear that, look like they have union a tough time for a half anyway. Hope they recover and make a good showing. Good luck to both.
  21. Could be one of several m7 coaches looking to promote, and one or two just looking for a new school.
  22. Don't know which version of Graham will show up. One version wins by 30, the other only by a couple scores. Tough Out-of-district opponents make a difference in the post-season. G-42 L-20
