ARE YOU KIDDING ME.....If this was in SWVA the VHSL would have someone's head, but it goes back to the same thing we've seen before, any team in the Roanoke Valley an eastward can do whatever and VHSL turns a blind eye. If Union had received a couple of tranfers from Graham would VHSL have allowed that??? Can not imagine what the rule is that allowed this to happen. Richlands has had transfers, but I thought the rule was that the kid had to have a semester of education under his belt at the new school, if I'm wrong, I must have fell asleep during the rule change meeting.
I'm not sure how the old rule read, but basically you weren't eligible to play during the semester you transferred. I remember occasions of basketball players who moved into a new school in the Fall but waiting until Spring semester (January) to be eligible.
Holy shit. That's one of the shadiest things I've ever seen. How TF was that allowed? Three days??!? You can't possibly say this transfer was anything other than one school recruit a kid for the game. It's ridiculous and I hope the VHSL looks back and vacates this whole mess. You cannot allow this precedent. It opens up the entire state to recruiting kids for playoff games in the big three sports. Disgusting.
This kid was the starting QB-DB at Western Branch and played against Oscar Smith on October 27th in a district game.
Even in their utter lack of competence, it's stunning that VHSL lacks a policy to prevent this type of travesty.
Not when you read that article you posted about Oscar Smith. It just proves everything everyone says about the VHSL being a joke true. I can't imagine the GHSA or TSHAA allowing such nonsense.
You're correct. I was jokingly praising VHSL in their handling of the postponed games. Afterwards, I found the Oscar Smith article.
You mean transferring happens at other places besides Richlands?
I am shocked!
This would be the equivalent of a player playing for one Tazewell County school in the regular season and then playing for a different one in the playoffs.
It's Cave Spring....no "s" at the end. I lived there for a decade when he was in high school. Even refereed a few of his games while finishing college.
No, it's not SWVA. The image at the top of the homepage of this website clearly shows the SWVA boundary and schools represented. Welcome to the board!

Sometimes I do good things. Like make a new logo that shows all of our schools so GMan can quit typing it out all the time lol.
There was Ralph Sampson up in Harrisonburgs . Is that considered SWVA?
"...I only have eight seniors on this year's team and some of them weren't even there two years ago. We've got a ton of sophomores and juniors and we start two freshmen. We truly are a young football team."
It is at least his 2nd fight with cancer. Had to resign before to undergo treatment.
I was trying to follow his coaching assignments. It looked like his first stint at Louisa Co was 2003-2010. He moved to Murrells Inlet SC and coached at St James High in 2010. He was first diagnosed in 2012. He returned to Louisa Co as HC in 2014 until now, but he have missed some time during treatments.
Wow.....that puts a whole new meaning on just one single game. Hoping they can pull it out for him. That would be the ultimate cap to what seems to be a life well lived. Go Lions.
Coach Fischer is from TX but played Tight End for Concord. His wife is from Gilbert, WV and also graduated from CU.
I actually kind of like that scenario, except that it adds another game to an already long season. If you win as a 5 seed and make the title game, you will have played 16 games. That's an NFL schedule.
Years ago the NCAA capped the season at 12 games (6 home + 5 away + bowl) and in 1989 vowed "to protect and enhance the physical and educational welfare of student-athletes."
Since then the NCAA has:
Expanded cap to 13- So schools could boost revenue with 7 home games.
Expanded cap to 14- So schools could participate in the lucrative conference championship.
Expanded cap to 15- So schools could participate in the lucrative 4-team CFP.
Expand cap to 16? Never! Because the NCAA has vowed "to protect and enhance the physical and educational welfare of student-athletes."
