  1. James Colley as the new coach at Gate City?
  2. I've not seen either team play this year, just followed scores and stuff on here. How big of an upset was this??
  3. I didn't think this one would even be close, with Ridgeview winning by 2 TDs or more. Guess I was wrong!
  4. I'm sure those guys thought it was cool, but in my opinion, it only served as bulletin board material for the G-men.
  5. I was really disappointed with the attendance at the Battle at Union playoff game. What has happened?
  6. Can't lift weights until the VHSL winter sports dead period ends, runs through Thursday I think.
  7. I've never know a college in my life to send a scholarship offer to a high school coach. How does that work?
  8. I didn't say you weren't aware of what it takes.....I simply asked the question do you have those players coming?
  9. It takes special players and quality coaching to win a state title. Does GC have those special players in their foreseeable future?
  10. I see Graham as being more explosive, but if Union can pull off some of those 8-10 minute drives of the old Appalachia days, this could be a ballgame. You can't score if you don't have the ball!
  11. This one is a no-brainer for either choice. Jeff Robinson of Chilhowie in 1A Rick Mullins of Ridgeview in 2A And if you are including 3A, Garrett Amburgey of Abingdon. Guys, he took over head coaching duties within 2 weeks of the season starting at A-town. He did a remarkable job.
  12. I doubt very much that he is wishing he didn't leave. He's tickled to death to be a head coach from what I hear. Plus, he's coaching at a school with very nice facilities in the Cumberland District.
  13. My prediction: Ridgeview 27, Richlands 14
  14. The two running backs from Ridgeview would be 2nd best duo to these guys.
  15. Observations from today: Playoff football should be played on Saturdays....period. Crowd was sparse for what I thought it should have been. This is in general, not just these two teams (I'm surprised by the lack of throwing skills by HS QBs these days). With all the 7-on-7 they play these days, I just don't see it transferring to the real games. Maybe I'm expecting too much...... Union is a solid team, especially on defense, but far from the contender they were last year.
  16. Interesting. Is that a fact or an opinion?
  17. Doesn't reflect well on the young man and his team if he is calling out officials on social media........just saying. If he didn't do it, then the film will show it, so why not let the appeal process run its course.
  18. It will be interesting to see Gate City's schedule for next year. I don't see a good quality coach that is in his right mind wanting to step into a rebuilding situation with the same non-district schedule GC has had during Aker's term. If GC had had a little lighter non-district schedule the past few years, we might not even be having this conversation today. A little confidence goes a long way. As for coaxing these retired coaches out of retirement, I'll just say that the reason they retired is that they probably didn't want to coach anymore!
  19. Does Central get in the playoffs even if they lose, assuming Marion loses too to Graham?
  20. When Akers was hired, who made that decision? Who were the other candidates at that time?
  21. I completely understand what Skipper is trying to explain. Abingdon is winning district championships that 2A schools would be winning without Abingdon in the league. It has not happened in every sport, but they are at the top or very near to the top in every sport. They do have some distinct advantages due to numbers, no question about it. It allows a lot more specialization in sports that the smaller 2A schools don't necessarily get. As for now, you won't get a lot of opposition to them being a member of the Mountain 7, but if they continue to win championships, look for people to complain more. As it is, 2A schools do benefit from the season competition level from playing Abingdon in the regular season as they move into the regional playoffs.
  22. I saw some of the game on TV, none of the Union QB's passes were even close to the receivers on this night. I guess that could be attributed to the rain, it certainly wasn't a good night for passing the ball.
