Honaker had a real bad shooting night, Tazewell got hot at the end, and a technical foul at the end.

I watched that game. Honaker had a really bad shooting night. Played mostly Freshmen the majority of the game and was down two with 30 seconds left. 
Grundy is a pretty good 1A team. They have  atleast 9 kids that can play a little. Friday night they looked as good or maybe better than ES in my opinion. 

I watched the Union ES game. Union still isn’t hitting on all cylinders, but they are gradually getting better as the year goes on. 
Honakers youth showed during the Grundy game.  They may still break into the top 10 before the year is over. Nomatter the  future looks really good for your Honaker Team.

I also picked Tazewell to win at the start of the season. I personally would like to see them win. Although I’m changing my prediction to Lebanon as the SW district champs this year. 

The way I understand it each region is responsible for setting up their  tournament. 
In region D 1A this year the top 3 teams from each district will go to the regional tournament.  Two of the 3 seeds will play each other and after that game it will be a basic 8 team bracket. 
I think this year the BDD 1 will get the remaining 3 seed as their first game. And every year it will rotate from district to district. 

Last night after seeing this I have to raise an eyebrow at this and wonderful about the message a coach is sending.  I immediately question the coach at hand for this ( that was my first thought )

I've seen Ridgeview play 3 games and agree they are a very solid team.  I'd take PM by double digits 
 
so my final thoughts are that seeing a score like that was a little mind blowing and you question a coaches intentions at first glance. However after digging a little deeper today it appears the team is so deep that most of the back ups would start on most teams throughout the region. ( I read this online from a guy that covers the ODAC  he stated that the entire bench could play minutes for the odac schools )  and the starters would all easily start for the ODAC.  Apparently they have 2 ligit D1/D2 recruits as juniors . 
It's hard finding much info on PM. There is apparently no local news paper in BUENA VISTA.  I found a news gazette that covers the area but there's not an abundance of stuff on line.  What I did read was impressive.  
It appears this group of kids played ball for several years together much like the northwood girls story I read from a couple years ago.  PM played that same northwood team with mostly freshman and lost in the state finals or maybe semi finals . Then last year they won the state with a predominantly sophomore roster.  
I'm not so sure they aren't the best team in any of the 1 2 3 or 4 A  programs I've seen  
I haven't seen everyone but the ones I have seen PM could play with or beat any of them. 
However with all this being said the book is still out on this score  I'd like to see how the game was handled.  I'd like to watch them play a couple more games if possible. 
My first thought and my first gut feeling tells me it's ridiculous and uncalled for. But if they are that deep then maybe it's nothing you can do about it.  
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. As I would also caution a program for running a score up. If that's indeed what happened. However if your that good do you teach your kids to let someone else score ? 
I would say absolutely not.  This will be worth tracking this year.  
 
Lastly i I don't think the Highland team is that good  sounds like they have a struggling program

Probably should be on the list but I want to make sure the Eastside loss was a fluke first. Game against Gate City ( demolished by PM) and Abingdon on Friday will help tell their story. 
 
 
 
 

Yes, I also think this is fun. It’s a challenge to see who knows the girls teams the best, and who is lucky enough to guess correctly. 
If Abingdon plays good team ball then I can’t see anyone in SWVA playing with them. They have experience, loads of talent, depth and size. 
From what I’ve seen from Galax they lack depth and consistency at this point  in the season. They did lose to GW by 20. I don’t think Eastside will lose to them next time they play  
Eastside did beat Union. Although ES shot like 30+ more free throws than Union. 3 starters from Union fouled out and ES won by like 5.  They play again in a couple weeks. I’d have to bet Union wins by +10. 
I agree It is possible for Honaker to upset ES.  
This is PM’s year, if they don’t win this year, there will be a lot of very disappointed PM fans, Just like all the GW fans from last year. 
 

I'm not sold on Eastside yet either. I think they looked pretty good but really mostly 1 player stood out. That's not gonna win against the best teams.  I'm planning to go see them play Union next time around.  I see where Eastside took 40 foul shots before and union fouled out 3 people ? That sounds a bit odd and one sided. 
I sit beside a ref for about a quarter yesterday at emory and Henry. Apparently he's done a lot of PM games and some summer games.  He told me this summer at someone's team camp PM beat Abingdon by 20. Of Course that's team camp stuff and I'd bet not everyone played for either team. 
I would love to see some of these top schools from each division go at it. Could be a lot of fun to watch. 
 
Yes your not the only one talking about Galax depth or lack there of. I think that will hold them back. I'm very interested to see how they do next time out vs the george wythe girls.  I understand george wythe is down but they beat Galax pretty bad a week or so ago.  
Looks like the way these teams are playing that the rankings may certainly change week to week.  Lots of strange things happening on the school board right now

I will add this 
when your playing the better teams vs the better teams many times it comes down to Coaching.  The Galax girls are well coached and I will say I am very impressed with Pm Coaching staff. They are extremely displine and he seems to have the pulse of the team spot on. 
Ridgeview is well coached as well.  
 

I like to look at what he did against the local teams and compare that to the next 13 games. He "Should/Could" average 40 points a game... 
Give him some cushion when the postseason begins in case he has an off night by scoring 25 lol. 
Factors that I think that play in are how far GC goes this year (obviously) and how much He/Vermillion pump the breaks against the local teams. Judging by what he did against Lee/Wise/TN High, I doubt there will be much pumping of the breaks though.

Once GC sees some good competition in the Arby's SWVA and the rest of the state of VA will know just how good GC is. They should be the favorite to win the 2A championship IMO though. 

One of the girls’ teams.  SWVA is respectably strong in girls’ athletics.  Both may happen, but I think the history is clear which should be favored.

That was a really good breakdown of the teams/girls. I can only make one correction. All the girls that traveled throughout the summer, played Showcase ball, not AAU.  After about 7th grade AAU ball becomes really weak and most of the better girls moves up to the Showcase circuit. 

I should have Said their has been a lot of good 1A and 2A teams from SWVA. And SWVA will continue to produce good teams over the next 5-6 years. They may not be All from the same schools either. I cannot argue with the statement that outside of C40, it would be hard to find 5-6 good teams. 

Is it not like that everywhere? To a certain extent. There are very few high school programs that can be dominate year after year. And the smaller the school the harder it is to establish a legacy like Central has. 
 

There is a lot of good basketball in single A and AA. I’m pretty sure in the last 4 years Honaker has made it to the championship game once and Final 4 twice. 

I am not saying it is the same teams. Collectively, there are 5-6ish teams that are good. The rest usually are not very good. 
Your original premise is that SWVA girls basketball is very good. I disagree with that statement. 

3 schools out of what 37/38 schools? Not a very good percentage. Outside of C40, girls basketball is pretty rough across the board. Sure there is always one team a bit better than others but generally, there is a large gap between the number 1 team and the middle of the pack team.
