  1. The thread is about the girls side but as for the boys from Ridgeview, I don’t know, what are they now 12-0? My comment was actually a dig at John Marshall but it’s not crazy to think Ridgeview boys could go postseason. Sorry I didn’t acknowledge for you that the M7 2A runs through Union this year, but can’t deny Ridgeview has had a great start.
  2. Wise/gate city fight has been coming for years. It’s the culture brought on by Scotty and TJ over the last 6-7 years. They didn’t like each other as opposing coaches and the players always fed off that. Truthfully though, nobody liked/likes TJ.
  3. Ridgeview is definitely the team to beat. They are solid and have good depth on the bench. Ridgeview could potentially make deep runs in boys and girls this season. Only difference is the boys have almost zero chance at state title unless John Marshall gets quarantined. Gate City girls surprised me, they are tenacious. Maximum effort from their girls and 2 good shooters.
  4. IMO the only M7 team that really improved from last year may be Battle. Still not going to beat Union and Abingdon. Union v. Abingdon will come down to who can contain the other better. Bunch and Ramsey will decide this matchup I think. How tight the officials call the game could change things too. Can’t call charge every time Ramsey spins and can’t call over the back all the time with leapers like Bunch and Jenkins.
  5. Oak hill never plays this tournament. Always heard they play on the west coast this time every season.
  6. Dorman is very good. They shot around 70% in the first half. Very quick and long on the press. This was not the Abingdon team to be in this tournament. Last years team could have competed. With Ramsey out, the only player to even start a game last year was Carter and he only started a few games. Two starters tonight were on JV last year and another starter didn’t even play last year.
  7. No such thing as over the back in rule book and it’s not a foul if you don’t have to touch them to do so. Difference in box outs on both ends is that every time Abingdon kids jumped the mullet kid or Bradshaw shoved them 3 feet. When graham had position, Abingdon can just reach higher. There was a stretch in third quarter I think that calls went Abingdon way but that was brought on by graham players running their mouths.
  8. Graham has one basketball player (Graves) and he is really good. The others are football players. Bradshaw gets what he can from pure athleticism and speed. In reality, Graham fouled 5 times more than abingdon. The kid with the mullet should have fouled out 2-3 times. Every time anyone got in the paint near him he shoved them in the back or held them. Graves will carry them through the southwest district but union will beat them by 20+ in region
  9. Abingdon basketball held to 14 days and were refused by administration to resume under the cdc 10 day requirement. And that’s just because of a referee testing positive. Cost the team 3 regular season games and opportunity to play in district tournament so lost 5-6 games. Same school board/administration so don’t count on any relaxed rules. They don’t care about anything except covering their @$$.
  10. Knowing the history of their games, it should warrant a good crew but nobody wants to ref wise games because of mccamis.
  11. Curious if anyone can tell who the officiating crew was for the gate City-wise game
  12. I played in the 90's. It was a different game. The game is ridiculously physical now. With today's pace and physical play, the quality of officials is demonstrated nightly. We have had many games totaling close to 40 fouls for both teams. Not taking anything away from the talent of McClung, Ervin or Dean but the amount of free throws they got during a season would not have happened back then. If you scored 40+ then, I would guess only 5/6 would be from the line. I watched McClung quite a bit and can remember games where he was pushing 20 free throws. Not saying he wouldn't have scored other ways but it's easier to score more points when the clocks not running. I also don't think you will see individual scoring like this happen again in Virginia now that they have started the stupid running clock rule after 30 pt lead.
  13. If he received 2 technicals then according to rules he would be ejected and forced to sit next game. Lets see if the officials will hold their ground or cave to Scotty as usual.
  14. Supposedly the second T was for him throwing an intentional elbow
  15. I heard he got 2 technicals in the game. If so, automatic ejection and have to sit next game. By the sound of things it must have been an interesting game.
  16. most of the loss of subscribers is the price per paper. It seemed to jump from $.75 to $2.00 overnight. Older people will pay that because they actually read the entire paper. Most people only get a paper for 1-2 sections. Some like to see sports, some like the region, etc. Not worth it at $2.
  17. According to TJ's quote in the KTN, they haven't gotten the same calls in the area games that they received in the Arby's. Anyone who's watched the Arby's all these years should know that any local team playing a non local team always gets the calls in that tournament to promote local success. I didn't watch Wise this year in the Arby's but I would bet they got their share of calls as well. As for the Abingdon game, TJ/Wise cannot complain about the officiating in that game because the foul calls were very 1-sided in Wise's favor throughout the game. Abingdon jumped out 11-0 in the first quarter and then every time our kids got near a Wise player it was a foul. At one time early in the first half it was Abingdon 10 fouls-Wise 2 fouls with both teams playing full court man defense. Late in the 2nd quarter there was a barrage of fouls called on Wise to somewhat even it up by halftime. Then early in the second half Abingdon had 7 fouls against them quickly with 2 players having 3 fouls. The differences in the game was Abingdon finally getting their shooting touch back, out rebounded Wise rather handily, and played with great heart down the stretch. Hayes stepped up late in the game like great players do and hit some crazy shots to pull back close but it was too late.
  18. I feel like every game is the worst officiated game these days. The pool of officials is very bad in this area.

    Ab vs gc?

Don't think so. That is all for Houseright.

    Ab vs gc?

Hats off to GC, they played great. They are fast when they get to the outside. Houseright is bringing back the heart and physical play to the team that they have been lacking. And, another classy showing from Darren Reed. That mentality is why he can't get players to perform for him as a coach.
  21. I didn’t stay for the Trinity game but I watched Buford/TN High and Carmel/Science Hill. As usual, the local teams had plenty of help from the officials. Watson from Buford didn’t seem to be comfortable this game. It seemed at times like he may have been hurting and struggled with his passing. Carmel was very athletic, dominated the boards in first half and played most of the game above the rim. SH came out in second half and boxed out better but turnovers kept them from making much of a run.
