  1. I’m quite familiar with what a micropolitan area is-in this case it matters because it’s a base in which transfer students can operate. In single or double A, three or four athletes can make a huge difference, so when a school has a larger pool of people close by then it allows them to sustain success in a way that most small schools cannot. Kids who are invested in sports want to win, and they will often go where the winning is. It boils down to the fact that right now Lee is losing 3-4 athletes that make a difference to other schools and Graham/Union are gaining 3-4 athletes from other places. This happens all the time in urban areas, particularly with open enrollment. Off topic, but you would think you might have learned not to be so condescending after your disastrous basketball predictions this year but apparently, old habits die hard.
  2. Graham is in no way comparable to Lee Co. The Bluefield micropolitan area has over 100k people.
  3. Mighty Lebanon just barely outlasted Va High last night. 👀
  4. This is either going to work out really well or be a disaster. Vermillion rolling the dice on a 23 year old kid with zero head coaching experience. I understand the move as it could be the best fit as far an extension of the GC culture of the last 10 years. But experience matters, especially in a job like that where the expectations are high every year. I hope he gets the support and backing he will inevitably need.
  5. Bucfan64 is harmless-just an old man tilting at whatever windmills talk radio tells him to.
  6. Again-my post may not apply to you. The point remains that plenty of people, especially in our area, have used the mantras of “freedom” and “no fear” to act irresponsibly in the midst of a deadly pandemic. I have disagreed with Ralph plenty lately for what I consider to be nonsensical guidelines. That said-this thing spreads rapidly in close quarters-we have an abundance of evidence of that...
  7. Congratulations-one of my family members lived her life just like you-went to the beach, brought back COVID and killed her mother. I’m sure she’s glad she took that beach vacation and got some wonderful memories. It’s amazing how “live your life, let others live theirs” gets skewed when it’s one of your own that is impacted.
  8. Here’s the thing-at one point we were dealing with an unknown variable...no one knew how deadly Covid would be or the ins and outs of it-our lockdowns and messaging were poorly executed. If we were being attacked by a foreign power and thousands of people were dying daily-most people wouldn’t think twice about following orders and staying in their homes and locking down. And yet, we had people essentially saying that their freedom to be ignorant deserved the same respect as scientific expertise and thus the US has over 570,000 dead. Now that we know the risks/transmission/have access to vaccines and treatments etc things like high schools sports and activities are much more doable. However, to mock people for taking precautions due to a deadly virus is insanity.
  9. It’s almost as though if something is dangerous/deadly we should take precautions or something.
  10. Ooh ooh I love these people. Did you know only about 80 people per year due from shark attacks? You really have to try swimming with sharks it’s awesome-refuse to live your life in fear dude!!! Or did you know that less than 1 out of every 100K people die via electrocution each year? Refuse to live your life in fear man-pick up those electrical wires yourself after a storm-don’t wait for AEP to do it!
  11. I 1000% agree that there are some real effects of lockdowns that we are going to have to contend with-particularly when it comes to the high risk kids that you speak of. However, more people have died from COVID in the US than died in WW2...that’s the kind of death toll we are looking at here, so imagine what it could have been had we not mitigated (or how much loss we could have prevented if we had handled it better). The high risk kids you speak of are also the kids most likely to be living with grandparents/extended family. While the virus may not have a lot of impact on kids physiologically-if they carry it home to the highest risk category...things could have been brutal. Just think back to December when hundreds of people were dying/hospitalized in our rural area and our hospitals were stressed to the maximum. Anyway, to get back on track, I’m sick for Burton’s kids-absolutely heartbreaking for them, but it was a possibility for every team that played this season-like someone said above...along the lines of Russian roulette.
  12. Kids-meaning 12 and under...not virtual adults like what are in a high school football locker room. The science is pretty clear that it spreads the quickest in low ventilated areas that are tightly populated. I would agree that on the field it isn’t very likely to spread, but in a locker room is a completely different story. Also, while I am very sad for our kids-this idea of “they have been robbed of so much” is not in line with the messaging that we usually provide to our youth. We tell them that they aren’t promised tomorrow and that they have to be able to handle adversity, but then we lose our minds and claim it will scar them for life because they miss a season of a high school sport, or a year of school?!? Some perspective is probably in order here.
  13. Hazard, KY would disagree with you-it spreads very quickly and easily in a locker room enclosed environment
  14. Who tore the kids in half and wished ill will on them?
  15. Not sure about anything else but this ending was definitely scoutable
  16. I need to hear what his number one supporter on this forum has to say about this
  17. It was only close on the scoreboard-Lebanon had about 10 penalties in the second half several of which called back long TDs and twice they failed to score inside the 10 yard line. First time all year I’ve seen them look undisciplined-the little scat back they have is going to be a huge problem for the Hogo I think. He has been impressive every time I’ve seen them to be no bigger than he is. Hits hard on D and is lightning in the open field.
  18. Hurley playing Tom Walker-that is the winner for longest haul
  19. In my opinion, high school students should be off limits for criticism by name. Critique the coaches who choose the depth chart-they get paid for that job. A kid who is doing his or her best should not be subjected to the same standard as a paid employee.
  20. You have 8 posts on this site and 2 of them are bashing a teenager. You are likely the parent/relative of one of the backup QBs....but if you aren’t, then you seriously need to re-evaluate your priorities in life.
  21. Appeals are a lot different than decisions. I have a hard time believing that the VHSL will step in this hornets nest
  22. Who is going to get the job?
  23. Are message boards really the place where you find people that move on easily? 😂
