  1. Chilhowie is struggling to score right now Narrows will be chomping at the bit to play a game after a pre mature bye week. Is Narrows rusty from the laid of or do the Warriors find a away to avoid going 0-3 for the first time since 2000. The old warrior curse is on that field in Chilhowie but it must have been broken last week. What do you guys think?
  2. What vibes have you been hearing?
  3. If Grundy wins this one then Marion and John Battle will be playing for the Region D championship
  4. Any body that puts Bland on their schedule is just asking to lose a game IMO. They have got to do a better job recruiting the hallways or just give up football. I hate to say that for the kids that are there and want to play but that is also hurts the seniors of the other side that now have one less game they get to play.
  5. I am assuming bland does not have enough players to field a team? or a COVID outbreak
  6. I agree you don’t generate half the force from 5 yards in a ground and pound game as you do from a safety running 20 yards across the field to make a play.
  7. This is very true! a few years back a 3-7 VA High had to travel to Appo which is just dumb! The region format is much better for travel overall. I do really like the cross bracket between the M7 and SWD much better than going by pure power points. Most of the district games are played at the end of the season so hypothetically lets say Marion was able to get the 8 seed and Graham was the 1. They would have to play in back to back weeks and neither game would end up being pretty. At least now that 3-7 8 seed gets to go somewhere new to get blown out in the first half. There are pros and cons to both. Travel favors the region set up. Less rematches favors east west. I honestly believe the east/west format put more importance to getting a 1 or 2 seed because those teams where not tested until the 3rd round while the 4-12 seeds where more competitive games. While in the region format we have better games in the second round. There has been a number of 1 and 2 seeds get knocked off early in region play that we did not see with the east west.
  8. PH looks pretty good honestly and has a few players that most of the class 2 teams in the area would love to have. Lebanon surprised me last week beat Honaker with the young Q playing very well. I am gonna go out on a limb here and say the revenge train keeps rolling for the pioneers and they take this one with a late score 27-21
  9. Both teams played physical opponents week one. While the final score didnt show it Lee hung around much better than Eastside. If Lee cleans up some of the mistakes from last week and eastside keeps throwing it to the team in the red jersey Lee wins easily
  10. I dont think its close Grudy wont have any of the top 6 players on the field Ridgeview just has way too much talent for Grundy. If they get the ball first and can get a first down or 2 then maybe its not too ugly early but that clock will be running by the second half
  11. I think them battle and gate city will for sure be fighting for that 4th spot in the play offs. I said 3 seed just because I am not sure about central. They graduated a ton and I could see them slipping against either gate city or Lee. Thats just my opinion I could be wrong on central they could not miss a beat but anytime a high school team graduates that much I expect them to take a step back the following season.
  12. Lee is going to be much improved this year. Will you see it against Union, Ridgeview, or Abingdon. Probably not. Does this mean I expect them to go 7-3, not really but I do think that is their ceiling. I think Gate City, Central and PH are the toss up games. They may not win all of those but I dont expect it to be 4 score games like it has been in the past. Carroll has a young QB that is only going to get better and a systems that has consistently scored points. If they can tighten down of defense they will be in a lot of games and will be in a battle for the 3 seed in the mountain 7
  13. Should be an interesting looking game with Marion in red pants white jerseys and red helemt
  14. The way Marion beat Chilhowie in a way that has not happened in the last decade. Chilhowie got tired. That was not because Marion was in that much better of shape but they only had to play half the snaps Chilhowie did. Chilhowie usually pulls away when Marion starts cramping but that did not happen Friday and it was fun to watch to say the least. I thought GC was would have handled Richlands going off of what had been said on here about Richlands but it seems like Richlands finally got some healthy players back? I was surprised by that score. Tazewell putting a beat down on VA High surprised the hell out of me. I thought that game would have been much closer. It looks like the lost of Stevie hurts a lot more than expected and Tazewell is a pretty good ball team this year. I knew that but didn’t expect that out come Friday
  15. Bristol paper and messed up on names a few times that I have caught so far. They are on the struggle bus this year
  16. I am not too big to admit I was wrong on this one. From what I read it sounds like Lebanon was much improved with high numbers and a QB that can sling they have a chance. I was worried about the Q being a freshman honestly but you can blame anyone for underestimating the Pioneers based on what they did last year after dropping down a division. I honestly think 1D is wide open.
  17. Yes that is the best way to go when your Q can run the ball. It gives you an extra blocker and the ability to zone read someone to death.
  18. You old timers absolutely kill me. The statement that you cant come off the ball in the spread like you do in a 1905 offense is just ignorance on your part. Now I do understand that most of the teams in the lower classifications do not run spread and are plenty successful Riverheads is a prime example of that and to a certain extent you do have to have some speed for it to work. When you run the spread football turns into a numbers game. It gives you options. If you are less talented than another team it gives you a fighting chance. If you put 11 guys near that ball the defense will do the same and that turns into are my 11 better than your 11. If your 11 are better than go for it. Now with that being said you have to be a damn good coach and know the ends and outs of your offense in order to take advantage of said number. If you throw 4 receivers out there for the hell of it with no scheme then you are dead in the water. @SwvaOG brings up a great point your best athlete has to be a Q if he cant hurt teams with his legs you are in trouble. Me and @redtiger have had good conversations about this before and I love talking ball and will do it all day. Personally I dont like the 3 yards and a cloud of dust mentally its boring to me and easy to prepare for. You want the opposing DC to not be able to sleep at night because your OC can take advantage of numbers. Richlands issue is not the spread. Sometimes you just dont have the kids or your not putting them in the best numbers advantage possible
  19. I think Honaker has a great shot to win the region. I know nothing about Galax but im assuming they will meet the region D winner but whoever comes out from this side of the bracket will be runner up to Class 2 Riverheads
  20. Is Lebanon running the spread this year? The Air Raid Tiller has going is a pretty good scheme they use their back a ton in the passing game which is almost un heard of in this area
  21. The Air raid wins out in this one. 1A schools are not use to seeing the passing attack that Honaker is going to bring to this game. Tiller has put in a lot of work in the summer to get this thing humming and its only going to get better with time. I agree Honaker may be the 1D front runner and they will pass their way to victory in this one
  22. I do believe the GC touchdown "Daddy Cap" will be passed around a few times Friday night. GC-35 Richlands- 12 (all FGs)
  23. If unions secondary is as rough as I have heard on this board expect Coach Carroll to take full advantage of that with a wide open passing attack. It could end up being a shoot out if see can keep pace and Union stalls out self inflicted penalties or fumbles. If it is one one score game late in the 4th and Lee has the ball with a chance to win I would be very nervous as a Union fan.
