This happened at Tazewell not too long ago. The Bland band came and played for visiting Montcalm when they played at Tazewell. Really neat idea for those kids.
It was such a kind gesture towards our band. They even played at a Bluefield College game. I hope other area schools will invite them to perform.
During the handshake one player, 50 or 55 pulled away and started flipping the Tazewell crowed off. Don’t wanna wish injury on anyone but #6 for Princeton karma is bitch man! To do what he did and then walk up to him and say that’s what you get bitch.
Sounds like Princeton coach needs to get his players under control. If he's perpetuating or allowing this behavior, perhaps someone needs to take him to task.
My advice “Build a Bridge, Get Over It” , “Let it Go”, “Move On” & whatever phrases one can muster. It’s over, bad call, almost any team can argue a bad call at some point or another. 2003 was a game costing call , Friday night, wasn’t. Teams can’t always use refs as an excuse for losing. Sometimes the other team is just better. Refs are human, some are probably are not unbiased as they should be. It’s unfortunate when that happens. Richlands needs to focus on Radford this Friday and put Bluefield behind them. The season must go on....best of luck Blues. I really think Blues can beat Radford or at least make it barn burner.
There’s another’s picture of it that show Steele’s feet are on the left side of the hash and the ball a foot inside the hash. Steele is 3-4 feet left of the ball.
Then my initial reaction to it being a bad call would be correct.
It’s not particularly clear from the photograph posted that #5 (Steele) isn’t in fact lined up directly behind Forrest. That would be a valid procedure violation.
I was there and thought it was a bad call at the time but if #5 was directly behind Forest then I’m like you it’s a valid procedure violation. The photo doesn’t clearly show #5 to the left. It would be great to have an aerial photo but I guess we all can just armchair ref the call. Either way, that call did not cost Richlands the game. They played hard but Bluefield is just on another level and they had some key players out.
With all due respect, it’s ridiculous to compare 2003 to Friday night’s game. In 2003 the game was won and refs determined the outcome. There was one questionable call in my opinion Friday night. Bluefield had two TDS called back: two sloppy plays that allowed Richlands to score. If not for those missteps, the outcome would have been even more lopsided. Richlands played hard but they weren’t beating Bluefield this year, period. Anyone blaming the loss on refs didn’t watch the same game I did. Bluefield is strong, fast, talent all over the field. Richlands has talent in Webb and Forest. Simmons is decent at QB. They should have a good season when it’s said & done and make playoffs. If Bluefield had everyone in & healthy it would have been a more embarrassing loss than the regular season game with Graham last year. I’m not throwing any shade at Richlands , they always play hard and are well coached. I’m just looking at the entire picture realistically. 2003 is nowhere near 9/27/19.
Y’all worried about a horn and I’m still trying to figure out how Union snapped the ball, held it and kicked it 22 yards in 2 seconds at Graham. Someone needs to call the Guinness Book of Records. NFL teams can’t do that.
I don't believe anyone is worried about a horn per say. Obviously, Union fans believe it's perfectly fine to blow it during live play while others disagree. However, it seems most of us want the horns, fans, cowbells, band, etc. any other time and loud as they can be. We all love a great Friday Night atmosphere and those add to it! As far as I can tell everyone from Graham on this board was complimentary of Union's performance Friday night and thought they played the better game. My thoughts are just because there's no rule against something doesn't mean it should be done. I guess as adults we can agree to disagree about blowing the train horn at the LOS.
I don't know his reasoning but perhaps you have the reputation of blowing during live play. I am not saying that is true because I haven't been to game at Big Stone Gap in 30 years. Just suggesting it as a possibility.
I have been to Big Stone Gap as recently as last year when Graham played Union. The train horn(s) blew incessantly during live play. I’m guessing at least the secondary reason being to draw offsides penalty. I’ll concede the main reason is to fire up their team’s defense (at least I would hope that’s the reason) Your suggestion as to why the AD acted as he did Friday night about the air horns is entirely plausible after attending the game at Bullit Park last year. My ears were ringing for days, lol. I’m all for horns, bells, bands, & fans; it makes for a great atmosphere. I’m in agreement with most, live play should not be subjected to a nonstop train horn blowing. Some may disagree.
Congratulations to Union. Graham fought hard to come back but Union was solid not penalty ridden & more disciplined. Bears executed well on both sides of the ball.
I suppose Graham will lose again in the regular season! That’s the thriller of the year so far along with Gate City-Richlands.
It was a thrilling game and if Graham can clean things up they won’t lose another regular season game. If they play like last night, they won’t beat Richlands at home.
Sorry if you, Coach C., or anyone else was offended. As I said in another post, I think they’re just good buddies. It was just an offhand comment not meant to upset anyone or be taken seriously. Their show is entertaining and fun to listen to; congratulations to Coach Mance.
I watched parts for the first time, what's the deal with Union and the one dude? Beat Richlands by three TDs and he has Richlands ranked and Union not? I'm assuming it's a running joke or something.
Mance is Coach Crigger’s Man Crush 😍 If they lose to Abingdon tonight, he may need a refund on all that Mance cream. 😂
Friday Night Lights! Go GMen! Bring your A game, focused, disciplined #GrahamPride! Safe travels for our Union buddies! Look forward to a hard fought game between two great teams & coaching staffs! Y'all can leave that train horn in Big Stone Gap if you want, lol!
It's mentioned on a thread on Virginia Preps that he's out for the season by Radford person. I hate it for him or any player that gets hurt. He's a talented young man. I'm sure he'll be back better and stronger next year.
Unfortunately for Bearcat fans, you’re off base here. You can’t compare VHS and Tazewell. VHS is not that young. Four of their top players, all skill players, are either freshmen or sophomores. Their linemen, which is the team’s glaring weakness(outside of the head coach), are all upperclassmen. There are no big bodies behind those upperclassmen, to take their place next year, or they would already be playing, to take their lumps with the young skills.
@FoxTrot hit the nail on the head. I can personally vouch for VHS football over the last 30+ years. Outside of the tenures of Paul Wheeler and Mike Locke (a Wheeler disciple) VHS has had over a century of mediocrity. Mostly, because Bristol always has been, and always will be, a baseball town. It really is as simple as that. The school and the community just doesn’t care about football, like they do baseball. Until another Wheeler or Locke type comes in, with not only the testicular fortitude to buck the system, but also with a good football IQ and the ability to actually care about more than themselves, VHS will stay mired in this century-long trip of being average......period.
Paul Wheeler coached at George Wythe before going to VH. We hated when he left. He was a top notch coach.
