Trying to tie the thread into football here....it’s a damn shame there won’t be HS football this fall because of a virus with a 99+ recovery rate and with younger age groups least affected. A damn shame...no Friday Night Lights! Are all area teams continuing with conditioning? Or have any cut back? Graham is still doing four days a week.

this isnt even at epidemic levels more less a pandemic but news just keep pounding pandemic, it was at one time but those levels are gone. its the death rate not cases before yell lol

So, to all who like to sheepishly follow our faithful leaders in government, and to those who thought that voting at some point was not your problem, I hope your happy with yourselves.  This Covid-19 isn't even 10% as dangerous at the "experts" said it would be back in February (thankfully).

Everyone needs to see the situation for what it is in this country, buffoonery combined with a power grab.

And for all those hiding under the bed (yeah that goes for the ones "afraid" for your family to), well, got a surprise for you; every one's gonna die sometime, and for 99+% of the world's population, Coronavirus WON'T be what sends you to Heaven or Hell.

Oh yeah, for those who think that was too brash, I know a couple people with the Covid right now, in my own family in fact (they social distanced and wore masks to, didn't work).  Guess what, they're gonna make it.  Even if God forbid, they weren't, I'd still feel this way.

Grow a pair, and start fighting those that have been neutering America for years!

.i just want someone to name a country that has beat a virus wearing a mask, ill wait

Yes, I said that.  And yes, I stand by it.  You can quote me on it, and I would appreciate you doing so from now on instead of being passive-aggressive about it.  Humans make decisions based upon the principle of social capital every day in hundreds of different ways.

is raising the speed limit to modern highway speeds worth 38,000 traffic fatalities per year (100+ per day) across the U.S.?  I bet you say it is, just like I do, regardless of whether or not I lost a grandfather in an automobile accident.

Let’s put it this way: is having swimming pools worth the 390 fatalities caused by drowning (1+ per day) across the U.S.?  I’m a betting man, so I imagine you’ve probably went to a swimming pool at some point in your life.  Is “1 extra death” worth your enjoyment?  Hmmm, where have I seen that before...

It seems cold until you actually think in depth about it.  Society could not function without these informal analyses.

1300 deaths a day from heart disease come on

Everyone wants football but in reality it would take a miracle.  If 1 kid gets covid the whole team will get it.  Maybe we can all buy the schools some deep sea diving equipment because that's what it's gonna take

kids getting it means what? asymptomatic better chance of getting hit by lightening. no evidence kids pass it to adults so what are we doing here. its less deadly than the flu to kids.

Better than nothing at all, which is what we are currently looking at.

no way we dont play! I would love to know how many of the  56000 cases that have recovered, cant find that info anywhere. hmmm wonder why??? almost 70% of all deaths have been in nursing homes 40 more today. they have brain washed Americans to believing it is more deadly than really is. well for the older, much older population it is.

That’s kinda how I see it, too.

i don't understand why its going this way. Kids are 99% asymptomatic and 0 kids under 18 have died from this in Va. they are the least vulnerable and it isnt even close. so not sure why the season is in doubt.

  7. VHSL will have alot of explaining to do if there is no fall sports. Reason why is how can kids play all the travel ball tourneys for basketball and baseball that have started recently and then say sorry we are not gonna play fall sports. Im sure there will be alot of push back if this happens.

Phase 3 will not allow for football. Not sure how you can say you are addressing cross contamination between student groups if you allow kids from literally every class in your school to have real, team practices and games. Cannot be accomplished.

Plus.…...if you do allow football, and then do not allow band, think of the uproar. Much less contact during band practice or competitions.

If you allow football, you will have to allow band. Heck, football and band at Gate City probably make up 30% of the entire student body.

Very easy for me to see our Governor reacting to the predicted Fall surge of Covid-19 cases by throwing all of the Commonwealth back into Phase 2...……..or worse.

Just do not see football happening.

“High school football, folks should be training right now, getting ready. I don’t know what will happen with the high school season down the road, but certainly quarterbacks can be throwing to receivers, receivers are wearing gloves. That’s kind of common sense. We’re not doing tackle football during the summer anyway. There’s certainly some weight training not using shared equipment, some drills that linemen can do that will accommodate the Phase II guidelines.

“Soccer, I coached high school soccer for six years. There’s ways to train and structure your practices without having intentional contact.”

    • “If socially distancing competitions are taking place, the following conditions must also be met:

“Outdoor recreational sports are allowable if 10 feet of physical distance can be maintained by all participants and spectators at all times and all shared items can be disinfected between uses.

who comes up with this rules? 10 feet??? what outside, only have to be 6 feet inside. hahahhaha morons

Every assistant coach at Galax was a coach in name only.  Dixon controlled every aspect of the football program.

I don't recall the exact schedule but the district opponents GW, Grayson, Auburn and Fort Chiswell, to go along with Glenvar, Carroll and Martinsville I believe.

they didnt play gw i just talked my buddy there, fort didnt have a jv

Return an awful lot of talent from a state runner-up team.  Add in the JV's were undefeated last season with no games even competitive, they have the roster to be among the Class 1 elite.  It will depend on coaching.

    Shane Allen

who did their jv play?  did they play GW jv? i know two kids moved from graham down to GW and were freshman last year who are pretty talented. may be a good game this year but who knows. its all on paper at this point

The Governor was supposed to address the reopening of schools last Tuesday, then moved it to today, then moved it until next tuesday.  The VHSL has already put together different scenarios, depending on when schools re-open.  (Waiting on the Governors direction).  A lot of people believe that he will keep schools closed until January.  If that happens, the VHSL is considering playing a shortened fall sports season in january and also shortening winter and spring sports season's.  That is currently worst case scenario.  But with Virginia's Governor, there is a strong possibility of an even worse case scenario.

would love to know the reason why keep closed till January ?? The good Dr Niel Ferguson whose model they used to shut down our country when he said 2.2 million would die came out and said the lock downs were pointless,  if we have stayed open the numbers would have been the same. Basically he said we should have done the same as Sweden. they stayed open he predicted 90,000 dead but they only had 4,000. crazy
