This should be a good game. I'm taking Narrows by 7. Could go either way though. 

Too many teams make it.  I still think 6 is the sweet spot.  Top 2 get a bye in week one.  8 teams is too much.  But, something had to be done regarding improving the system.  You can see above, G. Wythe in 2004 is the perfect example. A 9-1 regular season record and 7 shutouts, only scored on in 3 games.  Examples like this are when it's pretty clear something had to be done, but I think they went too far.  6 teams in the playoffs would have been ideal.

Apparently nobody watched the Union/RV soccer game this year. I forsee some assault and battery charges forthcoming at these games.

Gotta have a great week of preparation from our ends and corners. The ends need to attack the QB like they did against Cburg. Other than Bluefield, Radford will be the fastest team we see in the regular season so it’s going to be a big test for the Spartans. I just hope we don’t all have to sit on the home side. Me and dad might need to be creative where we place the horn at if the visitors side is still closed off. 

I think most around here are surprised Grayson was tested last night against a very weak Allegheny. 
 
I think Giles might be the sleeper pick to come out of Region C. Similar to what Grayson did last year. Rise up and surprise everyone. 

Grayson truly won’t have their first test until week 5 when they play Giles. The Spartan defense has certainly improved. Starters held Christiansburg to 7 points and shut out Blacksburg. Radford has me worried. Radford wins but hopefully not a complete beat down like how it was in Giles’ last few years in the Three Rivers District. If we can polish the new single-wing formation I think Giles has a shot and winning the Mountain Empire. Too early to tell but I’m being hopeful. I don’t remember the last time Giles has went 6 years without winning their district dating back to the 80s.

Yes very impressed with the defense. They are quick and fly to the ball. 

Giles defense seems pretty good. Offense needs a little work but overall looking alot better than last year.

Our tailback is pretty quick and elusive. Full back is smaller but has a very quick burst of speed. Wing back is bigger than the 2 mentioned and he runs hard on the reverses and is a good blocker. We don’t have a Brian Mann or a Brett Whitlow but we do have a pretty good backfield. 

The comeback is on!

Giles vs CBurg
Giles looks better than last year.  We are a better defensively up front.  To play a half with our starters and have Christiansburg top us by 1 touchdown is something I will take.  Our depth is limited and injuries could cripple us like they can any Class 1 school, but the 22 we have on the field are pretty good.  I'm not saying we will, but we have the ability to beat Grayson, Galax, and George Wythe and win the district.  Over the past few years, lets be honest, we really had little to any chance.  We have a very reasonable chance this year.  We are least in the conversation which I will take at this point.  Some of this stuff comes down to simply having good players.  There is size, speed, athleticism, etc.   All that stuff is important, but also important is just having good players.  We have some kids that can play.  I hope we can win the district.  It's not an unreasonable goal or expectation this year. I favor Grayson still, but maybe we can get over the hump.
 

I believe it was 7-0 with starters in. Cburg scored a few more TDs when the backups started playing.

They apparently dominated LCA last week in a scrimmage. And they are huge! Spartan D came to play today.

I was impressed by it. All the fans that came had positive comments about it as well. Still hard to judge bc I don’t know squat about HV. They definitely had the size advantage over us but they were very confused trying to defend it.
