  1. If that's the case, next year's schedule is going to be brutal. We're losing 9 starters off of offense. Hopefully we can make a good showing but dang what a schedule.
  2. Alcoa beat Gatlinburg Pittman in the Tennessee playoffs a couple of years ago 91-7.
  3. Gate City 28, Clintwood 27 -------- FINAL
  4. Clintwood 7 Gate City 3.......3rd quarter
  5. That was in 1997 during our state championship season I believe. I still have that game on video. That's one of, if not THE, best game I've ever watched. I've been lucky to see alot of good games, but this one tends to stick out more. Best game I've watched where we lost, was in 2002 ( I think) at Powell Valley. GC had alot of sophomores and freshmen on that team, and lost at PV that night 42-35. It was back and forth all night, and if there's ever such a thing as a moral victory it was that night. It's honestly hard for me to claim one certain game as the greatest I've ever watched. I've enjoyed alot over 36 years.
  6. Not originally. The schedule had it listed October 31st.
  7. Gate City plays at Burton on Saturday, November 1 at 4pm.
  8. Actually those stats were posted in 2 area newspapers. I was also at the game. It's amazing what a couple of wins will do for attitudes. I gave Tazewell plenty of props on a couple different boards after their win. If the players have this "we can't be beat" attitude as some of you have, Richlands will put one on you in a hurry.
  9. They manhandled Gate City? It was a game of 2 halves with GC handing Tazewell 10 points right out of the chute with 2 fumbles on their first 2 offensive series of the first half. Tazewell finished with 372 yards to GC's 287. Gate City had 251 rushing yards to Tazewell's 240. Tazewell's passing game was the difference, as well as our turnovers. Yes Tazewell won, and I'm picking them this Friday, but "manhandled" is a bit too much. As for a Richlands supporter saying "shame on you" to the Graham fans leaving early, some of the Richlands folks were doing the same thing when it was 27-0 at GC earlier in the year.
  10. If they hurt Muncey they must've hit him with the bus. That kid's a hoss.
  11. Volunteer lost their 2 main playmakers from last year. I predicted Clintwood by 21 after watching us run all over them in our scrimmage (even if it was just a scrimmage). The only reason they would talk smack is because they beat you guys handily last year. I tried telling them on coacht that they'd be in for a long night, and that they couldn't go by last year. They've only had a few winning seasons since their existence, but to hear some of them tell it they're all world. Good job by the wave. Anytime a VA team beats a TN team I'm all for it.
  12. Wow didn't expect that, after seeing both teams play. Especially AT Richlands.
  13. Volunteer won't be a test. Clintwood should destroy them.
  14. Congrats to the Dawgs. They ARE for real. Muncey's a horse. We had no answer for him. I'm proud of our kids for not giving up after the half. I look for both teams to go far. Good luck the rest of the way.
  15. Seems like someone in the stands lit a firecracker or something and they concluded that it caused a fumbled snap or something. That's been over 20 years so it's kinda foggy....lol
  16. Gate City had a blue panel on the away jerseys until this season. Their new home jerseys have a black outline around the number though. I've been going to games for over 30 years. I've NEVER been confused as far as uniforms go.
  17. Both players should've been ejected. I suppose the raking of the eyes and late hits were acceptable.
  18. Yeah I'm pretty sure it was. I think the final was 7-6. Kingsport Times-News headline said "Firecracker Fumble"...lol
  19. If ya pour Viagra on it will it make the grass grow?
  20. We would've won our 5th state championship too........if we had scored 53 points.
  21. The only football series I know of that had a game decided by a firecracker. Anybody remember that one? lol
  22. I watched 30-35 kids from Gretna last year that I would've bet the farm on. Heck I would've escorted them to Kingsport myself..lol
  23. Gate City's 21-16-1 all-time against Richlands. Not sure why it's shocking that they won. GC had 18 starters returning, while Richlands lost quite a bit. A couple of years ago, people were saying "Gate City's done". Amazingly after making it to Salem last year, those people disappeared. Richlands will be fine. They looked pretty good passing the ball late in the game. They'll come around.
