I made a post saying who I hope wins the game....his post didn't bother me at all, I laughed actually....you are hilarious by the way....keep it up big dog

You know what you did.  You fly in from left field like a fly to manure (that’s a simile, BTW) every time someone disagrees with me on any topic.  You did it in this thread too, and you looked like a jackass doing it.  Wishing a school to get beaten “like a drum” because I am that deep in your brain.  Kudos!

On the one hand, I’m flattered that you care so much about me.  On the other hand, it’s not becoming of a man of your years.

  2. I think Virginia wins comfortably.  Lee has yet to see the level of athleticism at the skill positions that Virginia High brings to the field this season, and though the line play is a question mark, they’re not hopeless on that front.  Carroll is a whale of a coach, and Lee has some pieces…so it’s a testament to that program to see where Lee is now compared to the last decade.

One fun fact about this game is that neither Lee nor Virginia have 1 single win against a 2A team with a winning record.  That’s pretty hard to do TBH.

I think Graham is better overall at the line of scrimmage (both sides of the ball).  You can't replace Bradshaw, but Clements is just a half step behind.  Better then last year?  Maybe not, but dang close to it.  I don't think there's another team like last year's King William in the playoffs this season.  But, regardless, I guess we are all about to see how good all the teams are.

Region B is pretty stout this season from top to bottom.  The records of their teams don't jump off the page at you, but the one team that would give me pause for concern is Strasburg.  They've played a gauntlet of a regular season schedule, and aside from a Week 1 forfeit, they've swept it.  That includes a 38-0 blanking of a 7-3 Clarke County team (whose only other losses are to the other two 8-2 teams in the Region).  They remind me a lot of this year's Graham team: not the most offensively gifted team you'll ever see, but a defense that will grind you into your composite atoms.  If those 2 teams match up in Salem, first to 20 wins it.

No Tazewell’s last three first round playoff performances support the argument of a blowout. Ridgeview by multiple scores.

Never mind that Tazewell was the lower-seeded team in all 3 games and had to face 1 Region D champion, 1 Region D runner up, and that same Region D team off 2 consecutive runner-up finishes in those 3 games.  Nah, doesn't matter at all, does it?  A reasonably intelligent person might expect a lower-seeded team to act as most lower-seeded teams do, and lose.

Just admit that you're still ticked about my position on Graham's video and move on.

I'm just waiting for the excuses from a certain person if Ridgeview wins.....

You can keep waiting, honey.  What part of "Ridgeview should rightly be favored" is vague or ambiguous to you?

This is subject to change.  It’s not the rain (it’s a turf field, and it should drain well) so much as the fog that comes in behind it.  If the forecast stays like this or worsens by Wednesday, look for this time to change.

What led you to this prediction? Just curious

He’s probably looking at Tazewell and Ridgeview’s common opponents.

    Grundy
    Ridgeview: W, 34-20
    Tazewell: W, 28-14

    Richlands
    Ridgeview: W, 33-6 (home)
    Tazewell: W, 56-37 (away)

    Battle
    Ridgeview: W, 42-6
    Tazewell: W, 39-16 (backup QB)

    Bluefield
    Ridgeview: L, 44-24
    Tazewell: L, 46-20

You add up the total number of points that Ridgeview was better than Tazewell in those 4 combined games, it comes out to 27 points.  Hence, Ridgeview is 27 points better than Tazewell.

    It’s science.

The difference between Ridgeview and Tazewell will be lineplay.  I believe Ridgeview is more experienced on the line and that will be the difference.  Tazewell will need to buy Creasy some time, so he can get the ball to his receivers.  I think that Tazewell has more raw talent at the skill positioins then Ridgeview, but if you can't get the ball to them, it doesn't matter.  Also, Ridgeview's defense is a bit stronger then Tazewell's.  I'll be pulling for the Dogs, but I believe they will have to play their A game and come in with the mentality that they can win this game.

Ridgeview does have more experience on the lines, and that’s the one concern I have as a biased fan coming into the game.  Tazewell has some talent, but some of it is young or undersized.  Ridgeview should probably watch the film from Graham to see what they need to do in pressuring Creasy; once Graham started pinning its ears back and gaining confidence, Creasy essentially had no time to allow plays to develop.  That will be the key for Ridgeview, as you say.

It's wrong cause he don't agree with it lol

It’s wrong because it’s objectively false, LOL.  Tell me 1 school recruiting Brody Jones to be a QB.  VT sure isn’t, and Lord knows they need one.  At least Creasy and O’Quinn are getting bites at that position.

But thanks for piping up when someone disagrees with me.  Death, taxes, and Hokiebird7 coming to pile onto UVAObserver.

What is correct? All the stat gatherers are doing it against everybody but Graham. Don't be confused, just because someone gets a D1 offer , doesn't make them dominate.

The narrative that Tazewell doesn’t have the “back end defense” to cover Ridgeview doesn’t have a basis in reality.  Tazewell has held 2 teams on its schedule to 0 passing completions and held one to 1 completion for negative yards.  Brody “Jesus Zeus Buddha Zoroaster” Jones went 15/36 for barely 100 yards and 2 INTs against Tazewell’s flimsy “back end defense”.

The only games where opponents have had success passing against Tazewell were Bluefield (who did likewise to Ridgeview) and Richlands (which was caused by a schematic breakdown where Tazewell’s DEs constantly failed to keep contain, leaving 2-on-1 matchups on the perimeter).

I mean, we can have discussion on what should be a very interesting 1st round game.  But simply parroting a falsehood repeatedly doesn’t make it true.

  10. Tazewell is probably the worst matchup Ridgeview could have drawn as a #2 seed in Round 1.  Tazewell is quite capable of slinging the football, and that’s where Ridgeview has been, shall we say, deficient at times.  Bluefield carved them up like a Christmas goose, and Tazewell is probably the closest comparable to any opponent they’ve faced this season in terms of offensive scheme.

Now, the reason Ridgeview is hosting this game and Tazewell sits as a #7 seed is continuity and resiliency.  Tazewell looked plenty the part against Virginia High and Fort Chiswell, but has had some bizarre head-scratchers (getting blown off the field against Bluefield, getting shell-shocked against Graham in the 1st quarter, the stinker at Colonial Heights).  Ridgeview, aside from the Bluefield game, has been rock steady.  You don’t win the Mountain 7 unless you aren’t.

The $1,000,000 question: what will these teams be like between the ears when it’s time to kick off?  Both have shown flashes of being excellent, both have some playoff demons to exorcise.  Ridgeview should rightly be favored, but Tazewell has more than a puncher’s chance if they have the right frame of mind and believe in what they’re doing.

Looking forward to seeing SWVA’s best 2 QBs and best 2 WRs square off either Friday night or Saturday.

  11. Dylan Brown has given every ounce of himself to a team that would probably be winless if not for him.  I hope he gets justly rewarded when it comes time for postseason player accolades.  He’ll be the best player on the field tonight, even if he doesn’t have Jones’s measurables or Poku’s speed or Thomas’s elusiveness.  One of those kids I’d want in my foxhole were I a coach.

Selfishly, I’m cheering for Richlands, as it would create what I consider to be the ideal playoff bracket.  I just don’t think Richlands has enough horses to stop Virginia High and the number of athletes they can throw at you.

I’m sure there are but you’re making a bigger deal out of my statement then what was meant.  I don’t really care who goes where unless someone is doing it illegally and I don’t think that’s happening anywhere to the best of my knowledge

The VHSL Transfer Rule (28A-7-1) is pretty simple and straightforward:

”The student shall not have enrolled in one high school and subsequently transferred to and enrolled in another high school without a corresponding change in the residence of his/her parents, parent, or guardian.”  If a student does transfer without a change in residence, that student must sit 1 full year before participating in any such sport.  If any player is found to have violated this rule, all games in which said student participated are forfeited.

There are two issues that arise:

    (1) The VHSL has nowhere close to the manpower required to police this.  You’d honestly need about 20-30 compliance agents to ensure that any such claims are thoroughly investigated, and I’d be surprised if the VHSL has 1.  If it’s happening, good luck getting enough evidence.

    (2) Anyone of average technological skill  can fake the “indicia of residency” required to bypass the mandatory 1-year period.  I can use editing programs to make my billing address appear to be Buckingham Palace if I wanted to.  Again, who’s policing this?

I’d say at least half of schools in SWVA have knowingly and willfully broken this rule in some sport in the last 25 years.  Some very brazenly, some less so.
