  1. This conspiracy theory fails the common sense test. If a scientist in a lab in Colorado somehow found the cure to prostate cancer tomorrow, that scientist is going to be running to every biochemistry giant in the United States screaming it from the rooftops. And if his claim is legitimate, the biochemistry giants will break themselves bidding upon the cure. Why? Money, my friend. Cold hard cash. Billions upon billions upon billions. It's the basis behind our entire patent system: people are going to look for a reward with regards to their intellectual property. And they'll give it: they'd be incredibly stupid not to milk their invention for billions. Which means that they must sell it and release it to the public domain.
  2. Virginia's list is pitiful. I sincerely believe that neither Ashe nor Snead deserve to be in the Top 4. Ashe was a trailblazing and definitely notable tennis player (for the best and worst of reasons), but I don't believe he's Top 5; Top 10, definitely. Same for Snead: one of the golf's early greats, but definitely not Top 5; Top 10, definitely. Replace Ashe and Snead with Secretariat and Ralph Sampson. Sampson was arguably the best center in ACC history, and Secretariat was arguably the greatest horse ever to race. Yes, I'm counting Secretariat as an athlete. As far as UVA sports greats, I'd have to give it quite a bit of thought. Here are my first impressions (after about a minute of pondering). The Top 2 are easy, the others not so much: 1. Ralph Sampson 2. "Bullet" Bill Dudley 3. Jeff Lamp 4. Herman Moore Heck, I'd have an easier time thinking of the 4 greatest coaches in school history than individuals.
  3. Very true. Though the most viable stem cell lines come from feti, it appears. I've even heard of the possibility of stem cells from fatty tissue.
  4. Landesburg is nothing short of spectacular. Singletary's number was retired yesterday, and I believe Landesburg can eventually do the same, if he can continue at his current pace. Definitely a bright ray of hope in a season that hasn't had many. UVA has done very well against teams that has been willing to press often (Clemson and VMI). I'd be willing to bet when we go to Littlejohn, Purnell won't have them press nearly as much. And UVA has a fairly solid recruiting class coming in next year. Just two signed right now: Tristan Spurlock (a very capable 4* SF), and Jontel Evans (a 3* PG with nice upside). Hopefully, we can add a couple more pieces to this class. Our biggest remaining target is Renardo Sidney, though I'm not too optimistic about obtaining him.
  5. Under Reason #1, you forgot Dukie V, Mike Patrick, and Karl Hess. Otherwise, spot on. Especially since relying mostly on outside shooting will earn you a big L come tourney time.
  6. As long as the heinous act known as abortion is alive and well, we'd be incredibly senseless not to harvest the feti for our use. Else, those lives wasted were wasted doubly. Though I'd rather not be in the position to talk about feti stem cells in the first place, if you know what I mean.
  7. Change we can believe in! /Sarcasm. [sHAKING MY HEAD] We're in trouble, fellas.
  8. I couldn't have said it any better myself. Obama has no idea what he's doing. Like a mindless sheepie, he's being led right to the slaughterhouse.
  9. To be as fair as possible, it's not like the document was just plopped down and blindly voted on. There is a fairly lengthy subcommittee process, and the bill must make it out of subcommittee to make it to committee, and the bill must be favorably voted upon in committee to make it to the floor, etc. Needless to say, I'd wager the vast majority of Congress knew the vast majority of the ins-and-outs of the bill before voting on it. Not to say that I don't completely despise the form of the stimulus bill that passed the House/Senate. Which I do. But I have to be as fair as possible.
  10. That's funny: your reaction was the complete opposite of mine. VT's title run won't make it out of Atlanta on opening weekend.
  11. And any Dook fan with common sense would grudgingly agree with you.
  12. The sun shines on a dog's a-- every now and again, right? I'm just glad to see us FINALLY play at something resembling our potential. Big win in Charlottesville, especially in time to welcome our reeling rival into town...
  13. Bingo. Simply stated, the best from the U.S. don't play soccer. The best from the rest of the world do.
  14. WVU has always recruited far too well in the state of VA. Add another example to the "can't keep players in-state" heap.
  15. Big win, indeed. Definitely on the right side of the tournament bubble now, and it's their spot to lose!
  16. We're getting the same in PA too. A high wind WARNING here.
  17. Alright, I've looked up the D.C. code in the meantime, and there is absolutely nothing about "unregistered ammunition" in the books. Nothing. It appears that our 64-year-old gentleman friend is going to have a good claim to contest this suit, to say the least.
  18. http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/The-great-Atlantic-Ocean-swimming-hoax?urn=oly,140525 At least she didn't need steroids or bong hits to try it...
  19. The wrong coach retired! :( I'm a bit surprised at this, though, especially since he was promoted to "Associate Head Coach" on the offseason. But that's the risk of hiring a 66-year-old assistance coach. I'm interested to see how Diaco runs the defensive scheme, now. Hopefully a switch from that AWFUL 3-4 is in order.
  20. Depends on your definition of "ammo". .38 bullets?-No 12-gauge shells?-No A magazine of semi-automatic shells?-Yes Grenades?-Yes And I say this myself with a high level of certainty. Although the journalism is pretty shotty.
  21. I may have misinterpreted the article. I thought he would be charged in Louisiana. If he were in D.C. at the time of the offense, that'd be fine.
  22. I am largely unfamiliar with Louisiana's laws regarding unregistered firearms, largely due to a lack of exposure to Louisiana law, than anything else. However, some ammunition does have to be registered, namely grenades, magazines of bullets, high-powered ammunition of a certain powerage, etc. If this guy is getting charged with unregistered ammunition, this guy was packing heat with an intent to do more than just "go hunting". There is the chance they're just piling on charges based simply on the proximity to Obama. But I think the chances are better than not that this is not the case.
  23. You guys are quick, beat me to the punch! I actually believe he will this time, for good. After all the drama last season, I believe he knows even better than ever when the time would be right. Remember, he retired so shortly after the Packers loss last season. He's had a month now to talk with his wife and children. He's nearly 40 now. I really think it's for real.
