  1. Oh, come on. You know Florida has it because it's supposed to be a Miami/FSU showdown every year... ;)
  2. Sad to see, but that's still an impressive showing.
  3. Incredible game, from the sounds of it. Got a friend that graduated from GM some time back, helps with the offensive line up there now. I bet he's as happy as can be.
  4. If they truly "strive in our collection to have a wide variety of ideas", keep the Christmas trees and add some symbols of other religions (menorrah, etc.) if they're so earnest in their desire not to offend any delicate sensibilities. It gets disgusting to see the religious bankrupt going on in America, getting worse every day.
  5. That's awful news, especially during the holidays. Same here, my prayers go out.
  6. Leach would be a terrible hire for Auburn. His system is the exact antithesis of what works well in the SEC. The defenses in that conference won't let him establish a spread, and it puts Auburn's defense (it's strength over the years) into jeopardy. If they knew what would good for them, they'd pass on Leach. Charlie Strong would be the man for Auburn.
  7. A wonderful career comes to an end. I'm glad he retired one win ahead of that no-good money-grubbing Clemens. Spent my childhood watching him pitch gem after gem for Atlanta. Surefire first-ballot HOF, no question. Glavine, I'm unsure about, but I'm fairly sure he's contracted through next season. I believe Smoltz is back for another season, though, especially after his arm troubles last season. I believe this next season might be the end of the ride for them.
  8. Went to the D1 and D2 championships at JMU back in 2005. I know for a fact that they didn't clear the stadium between games, and the $10 admission fee covers the cost of both games. Of course, you can leave between games, but I'm unsure whether the gatekeepers would let you back in or charge a second admission. I wouldn't chance it. Have fun!
  9. Down to UVA, UT, VT for all intents and purposes. And while VT is in this mix, they're not quite at the top. Yet. There's a very significant chance he'll have to go to prep school, however.
  10. Bud Foster seems like the guy who'd be an excellent DC, but a mediocre head coach. He wouldn't be able to pay the adequate attention to making the defense VT's calling-card, and the new DC hired would not be of the same caliber he is. Likewise, he's overseeing the whole operation now, and no one knows how that'll turn out until he does it. But your last sentence is dead on, I'll give you that.
  11. The whole second page has the potential for comeback after comeback after comeback. But I'll be nice. :)
  12. I wish I could be there to go to it. May see if the family could go do it.
  13. A sad story, indeed. Even when I was younger and didn't have much of a liking in college sports, I remembered this guy. An absolute beast at Wake. I pray for him and wish him nothing but the best. I hope a miracle happens for him.
  14. Here's a juicy little tidbit for everyone: Virginia's BOV has given fiscal authorization to the Athletic Department for any potential buyout of Groh's contract. http://www.mytimesdispatch.com/index.php/sports/comments/groh_update/6104 Littlepage and Casteen, the ball's in your court. DO IT.
  15. That's what happens when you mess with me. ;) Seriously though, I hope the situation's alright there. That sounds quite bad. Please keep those of us hundreds of miles away updated.
  16. LOL, I'd love to take Pud from VT. When the chips are down, he's the secret for the success. Look at all the 23-20, 20-17, 17-14, 16-14 games this year. Not exactly setting the world on fire. If he's gone, you're left with a solid-but-not-spectacular head coach, a laughably poor OC, and a flaming ? at DC. Bye-bye, VT national title hopes. Hello, fundamentally-solid defense at UVA. I'm with you, as I'm looking to see the talent. We lose 3 of 4 starting LBs (Copper, Sintim, Appleby), 1 DE (Field), 1 stud LT (Monroe), and 1 heart-and-soul RB (Peerman). That's not a lot of people, but that's a BEVY of important people. Now, if Groh/Pruett were people open to change, this screams "PLAY A 4-3!" Alas, Groh's a curmudgeonly fellow, and won't be open to this. But we do have young talent. It just has to develop. And given Groh's track-record of developing only those in the upper portion of the ranks, I'm skeptical. Then, there's the issue of how well the team will do. The worst possible thing for the fanbase, and even perhaps for the team in general, is to go 7-5 or 6-6 next season. The donors won't buyout Groh, and it's "rinse-lather-repeat" for yet another season. Having a 5-7 season or worse next year cleans house and is an addition by the "gets bad before it gets better" maxim. Going 9-3 or better says "well, it's partly successful". It's been great talking with you. We could use a few more Hoo fans over here. ;)
  17. Making it there ≠ ultimate triumph. Ask Bob Stoops or Jim Tressel how it feels when they lost their 2 games compared to when they won their 1 (Jim Tressel's barely counts, due to the bogus PI call). Better yet, ask any old-school WVU fans if making it there is the same as winning it. They've got a much better perspective from which to tell you this. VT's defense, at its best, is good enough to win national championships. VT's offense, at its best, is solely good enough to keep its BCS game close. Until this changes, VT will never win a national title at FB. It's likely they may never win one, period. Every year, the window closes just a smidge more. And I'm sure you'd agree, you'd rather have your school and athletic program win a national title in lacrosse/soccer or another niche sport than being an also-ran in its area of expertise, no? Yes, UVA's made just 1 Sugar Bowl in its time. Lost to Tennessee by 1 point, too. Blew a lead while doing it. UVA's been ranked #1 in football before. It's been 18 years, but it's happened. Again, both of these were under Welsh. Groh promised to "take this team to the next level". He's had 4 opportunities (FSU '04, MIA '04, VT '04, VT '07), and he's failed on his promise. Time to cut the cord, for all that's good.
  18. It's not like Groh/Pruett were going to run a 3-4 in that situation and let Boone tiptoe into the endzone, either. The TD's far from automatic at the 1-yard line. The play call itself was the problem, though, and very reminiscent of what Mike Groh did against Clemson. Never, ever, ever line up in a Shotgun formation on a 4th-and-1, and ESPECIALLY with a player that will only run the ball. "Engage Eight" was the easiest call of the game in that situation. Certainly gave me false hope.
  19. A silver lining in the cloud of mediocrity. Interesting bowl records- Groh: 3-2 (2 losses by 6 points) Beamer: 6-9
  20. I've heard and read many great things about him. Heck, even a better musician than an athlete. A great human being.
