  1. Google...lol. I just googled "Patrick Henry Tazewell basketball" and came up with a Roanoke and BHC article on the game too, haha. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=3JQ&q=Patrick+Henry+Tazewell+basketball&btnG=Search While were on the subject...some probably don't know but the Kingsport paper has games for this area (Lee, Wise, Scott, etc.) over here too for anyone interested. They have a main webpage (here: http://www.timesnews.net/), free for view limited version and then the full for subscription. They don't put a lot up of sports articles up for free view though (they did have another sports page up last year that was pretty good, that included schedules, rosters, stats, etc...but not this year for some reason). They also have another page, that's most of whats in the current day's paper...here: http://ktnonline.timesnews.net/ Its not organized real well so you'll have to sort trhough, but like for the basketball scores (and not the articles), they're down under the Sports section and under "basketball", just click "full story" and the scoreboard section comes up, scroll down the page to find the high school scores. Also, the Coalfield Progress has scores (for their area) ocassionally under their scoreboard section http://www.thecoalfieldprogress.com/...viewStory=2914 (usually a few days or so behind though) and under the "The Final Score" section http://www.thecoalfieldprogress.com/...wsSectionId=54 (nothing up on it at the moment, but they usually have them up the night of the games or the next morning.

  18. I was reading some stuff over in KY and they mentioned big winter storms like the '93 and '98 storms usually run in the 10-15 year range for the area. So it would seem that we are due one. The way this winter has started off, things look good...although usually there's a warm up on the other side of these cold months, so hopefully we aren't wasting these early ones with the months that bring better chances. We just happened to miss these last two storms over here, which this current one is a little more of an ice situation in KY though. The one before put down some 6 inch snows over there and had a little thing happen called "dynamic cooling" which is what happened in the '98 storm. Too bad it didn't track just a little farther east and have a little better push of cold air. We can't seem to break down the southeast ridge enough and keep the moisture in with the cold air long enough. But I'd say we're going to see another in the not so distance future. We had a 5-10 inch snow in Lee a couple of years back. One of the few to actually get much of that. Just happened to have a heavy band of snow set up right over us in the west-northwest flow and train over the area. One of those rare ones, but its been a while since we've seen a big one, prob. '98.

Va High girls tourney scores from the BHC.... http://www.tricities.com/tri/sports/high_school_prep/article/fields_guides_sullivan_central_to_tournament_win_at_virginia_high/17507/ Fields Guides Sullivan Central To Tournament Win At Virginia High By Allen Gregory Sports Writer / Bristol Herald Courier Published: December 11, 2008 BRISTOL, Va. – Teammates and coaches on the Sullivan Central girls basketball team describe Brittany Fields as fearless. The 5-foot-1 senior point is not afraid to snatch away rebounds from much bigger opponents or drive into the paint for points. Thursday night offered an example of Fields’ bravery. Fields contributed six points, six rebounds and five assists as the Cougars held off the Chilhowie Warriors by a 43-37 margin in day two of the Virginia Tip-Off Classic at the Bearcat Den. “I’m used to being the smallest player on the court,” Fields said. “I just try to be the leader and get all our players involved. The Cougars (5-3) held a 29-23 advantage when leading scorer Whitney Moody (16 points) collected her fourth foul with 2:30 left in the third quarter. Enter Fields. “We knew that we had to pick our intensity after Whitney went out,” said Fields, a four-year varsity player. “We didn’t play our best in this tournament last year, so we want to do better. ‘ Central coach Gary Surcey felt his team meshed when it had to. “We weren’t playing within ourselves at times,” Central coach Gary Surcey said. “We gradually settled in and focused on what we could do.” From defense to rebounding, Fields can do much. “Brittany was the difference tonight,” Surcey said. “She gets after it every game.” Fields, a shortstop on the Cougar softball team, attributes her success to hustle. “I’ve got to do all the fundamentals like boxing out for rebounds and using my quickness,” Fields said. Five-foot-nine junior Erika Blizzard supplied 12 points for Central. Junior Krystal Patton paced Chilhowie with 15 ponts. CHILHOWIE (37) – Coe 6, Taylor 5, Patton 15, Harris 6, Hash 3, Harper 2. High 54 The Bearcat Den has become a second home for Rye Cove. After winning the Region D tournament at Virginia High last winter, the Eagles stopped the host Bearcats Thursday. “That was a very big win,” Rye Cove coach Jamie Carter said. “Even though this game had no district or regional implications, we were playing a tough team in the same gym where our regional tournament is held.” Junior Christi Hood paced the Eagles (2-3) with 26 points, while Shasta Edwards added 16. Savanah Pippin led Virginia High (4-1) with 26 points. “I didn’t expect to score that much. I just tried to keep driving the ball and making things happen,” Hood said. “Most people probably expected to lose because Virginia High is a bigger school, but we played well.” RYE COVE (57) – McComas 2, Christi Hood 26, Hutchins 5, J. Valley 48 After scoring 31 points in a first round win, Katie Jo Lester guided the Twin Valley Panthers (3-1) to another victory. The five-foot-eight sophomore scored 21 points, including four straight baskets in the final minutes. Lester, currently averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds a game, overcame an ankle injury in the second quarter. “Katie Jo struggled most of the night against the good defense of Powell Valley, but I think the defense got a little worn down and Katie Jo finally decided to go after we fell behind,” Twin Valley coach Rick Goodman said. Lester scored on both perimeter jumpers and drives. “We always try to clear some room and let Katie Jo do what she needs to do,” Goodman said. Powell Valley led by a 41-32 margin early in the fourth quarter. “I told the girls at halftime that was the sorriest we’ve played,” Goodman said. “I’m real pleased with the way we fought back. That showed me something.” Senior Sarah Mullins, who tied a couple of Virginia High School League Group A state tournament records with her 3-point shooting last season, added 12 points for Twin Valley. Athletic five-foot-10 junior Tasha Trent paced Powell Valley with 17 points. TWIN VALLEY (52) – Gilbert 6, Horn 4, Wimmer 2, Mullins 12, McClanahan 3, Lester 21, Tatum 4. Totals 18 8-18 52.
