  1. "Stick it in, Stick it in, Stick it in!!!"...lol...j/k Could you put "The Great Hokie Nation" as mine, thanks.
  2. I know this is a little off topic, but does anyone know anything about a guy named Roger Morris? He is the new head coach of Lee High and I've heard some really good things about him. He use to play and coach for Keokee and then went on to coach at Cumberland, Ky high school. Other things I've heard have been he's played a little minor league ball, won some state championships, is in the KY High School hall of fame, has about 30 years of experience, and has had some really good teams at Cumberland. I just wondered if any teams from in the area have played Cumberland or if anyone has heard of this guy?
  3. Magna Vista 54 Carroll Coutny 44 Also... Girls Region D finals...Gate City 38 J.J. Kelly 32 Girls Region C finals...Floyd over Radford (don't know score)
  4. Magna Vista 62 Lee High 29 Carroll County 52 Virginia High 48 Finals...Feb. 25 Magna Vista at Carroll County
  5. Well it was another good season for Lee but once again MV was just too good. Good luck to them next season, same said for Va High also. Both teams should be competitive again next season. Magna Vista 60 something?? Lee 29 (just seen another score that was a lot closer, but I believe the one I have is right) Carroll 58 Va High 53 ??? ...don't know exact scores just yet, keep hearing different scores...will try to get state tournament bracket posted when available.
  6. Quaterfinals: Lee High 49 Tazewell 43 Va High 57 Bassett 49 Semis....Feb. 23 Lee at Magna Vista Va high at Carroll County Looks like Lee and Va High are step closer to State, would be nice to see Lee High go back to state again in something...lol. Lee is definitely establishing a nice program in girls basketball, this is their 5th straight Region semifinal apperance and I believe its their 6th straight Regional apperance overall, all under Coach Ward. If they were to pull out a victory over Magna Vista somehow, then it would be the 3rd time to State in those 6 years. Speaking of Ward, since starting her career at Lee she now has a record of 106-48 overall, I believe, a pretty good record I must admit. Anyway, good job to both teams and good luck in the next games, hopefully both can represent the Highlands and the area in State.
  7. Would anyone just so happen to know the girls brackets for the disctricts in Region IV?
  8. Highlands: 1. Lee High: 15-6 5-1 2. Virginia: High 16-4 4-2 3. Abingdon: 11-8 3-3 4. Marion: Don't know overall, 0-6 in District
  9. They sure did, 57-50 was the score. Abindon was without their leading scorer Michael Scoresome. I dont know if the outcome would have been different if he had played but still yet Abindon was defeated by VA HIGH. Its funny how Va High lost to Battle and then beats Abindon, but Abindon had a close call before this game. Just last week Lee High lost to Abingdon 71-56, but Lee had cut the lead to 8 points midway through the 4th and looked like they were going to pull the upset, however they just didnt have the firepower to pull closer and had to foul and Abingdon sealed it from there.
  10. Oh, I guess I didnt see that, now I'm confused too, lol
  11. There was a post a little earlier, its been pushed back to the second page now, but it said the game was cancelled.
  12. As of Feb. 9 Boys AA AP Poll 1. R.E. Lee-Staunton (9)--19-0, 108 2. Heritage-Lynchburg (2)--21-0, 95 3. Martinsville--17-2, 79 4. Abingdon--19-0, 70 5. Pulaski County--18-1, 66 6. Greensville County--16-1, 54 7. Spotsylvania--17-2, 51 8. Millbrook--17-2, 33 9. Prince Edward County--18-2, 19 10. Courtland--16-3, 10 Girls AA AP Poll 1. Lord Botetourt (4)--17-1, 97 1. Charlottesville (3)--17-1, 97 3. Jamestown (3)--17-1, 79 4. Brookville--18-1, 71 5. Hidden Valley--16-2, 60 6. Broad Run (1)--19-2, 54 7. Bruton--14-2, 52 8. Harrisonburg--15-3, 33 9. Spotswood--16-4, 20 10. Handley--17-3, 14 I believe Magna Vista has 14 votes also, so I guess you could say they are tied for tenth.

    so...

Does anyone know how Lee High has done in any of their matches this eaason? I believe they played at Abingdon or somewhere Monday. I was just curious as to how they did.
  14. Was that against Syracuse? I remember a play like that when he was in college. He was rolling toward the sideline and right before he gets nailed out of bounds, he someone throws the ball across his body, off his back foot, and hits Andre Davis perfectly down the field. Every time someone criticizes his accuracy and arm stregnth, I think of that play.

    so...

I hear that Lee High is getting a team together (coached by Eric Satterfield), and they hope to have wrestling program started back at Lee next season. From what I hear they had a good turnout this season, considering they are playing a very limited schedule. Don't know how they fared in any of their games, but hopefully they can put together a decent team for next season. Good luck guys!
  16. Even though this may be one of the best ideas I've heard for Lee to do, I still don't like it. In my opinion, that whole AAAA thing sounded really good to me. Move Abingdon and Marion to the Southwest, let VA High figure out what they want to do, and move teams like Gate City, Lebanon, and Powell Valley back into the Highlands, and whoever else they could move up. I'd say Va High should stay to make it a 5 team district in that case and maybe even bring Grayson County and some other team in. The BBD could just be done away with by moving Honaker into the LPD and the others into the Cumberland. Yeah, I know this has been said before but I still think it makes sense. By the way, Lance, what did you mean by Lee couldnt compete in the southwest district and has no reason to travel to Grundy for ANYTHING. I hope you mean football, because then you would be right. But if you mean all sports, then you better think again. Just remember last year, I belive Lee played Grundy in girls basketball, and who won, Lee thats who. For the past, i think, five years Lee girls basketball has made it to Region and went to state twice. Lets not forget this year's volleyball team, which I congratulate by the way. They made it to State, and were Region IV champs, had the Region IV player of the year, who made first team All-state and finished second in kills in the state to the Player of the Year in AA. Wait, I'm not done yet, you got me going. The softball team has been very good lately, the boys basketball team has been DECENT, and track USUAlLY does really good. I think I'll stop there, but you get the point. Sorry for going on like that, your statement just got me fired up there, and I felt like saying all this. IF you just meant football then forget everythging I said.
  17. You're right, Fastang. It's Flatwoods, not St. Charles. Flatwoods, Jonesville, Pennington, Keokee, and Dryden combined to form Lee High.
  18. Sorry for not putting that in paragraphs, I guess I kind of got carried away there. Anyway, yeah Lee High has a nice tradition with the horse and don't forget the cannon either. I was also in the band while there, and your right we never quit playing. No matter how bad the team was getting beat, we kept going and going. Every first down, every big play, we play, and none of that happens, the band plays again. If you listen real close when Lee is in the redzone and about to score, you will hear a version of Va Tech's "stick it in". One of the reasons for the people in the stands at Lee High, is because of the band. People always say one of the reasons they come is to see what the band will do, and how good they're going to be.
  19. Yeah, its funny to talk to people at Lee. They go "good job guys you lost to a tough team, keep your heads up, and keep playing hard." Then you'll hear "maybe someday they'll let lee high drop to single A." Oh, I'll mention that I used to go to Lee High, so there you have it not all Lee countians think like these others do. In my opinion, Lee could've of made it a little closer if Perdue was at qb, but he was hurt and didnt play, so Lee didnt have a qb. It was just line up and run, that in return had Lee's defense on the field all night long. Now dont say I'm making excuses, b/c I'm not. Lee has NO kicker, poor coverage on special teams, a very bad d-line and o-line, no passing game(against Richlands, b/c starting qb was out), very poor tackling skills (never heard of a team that gets in the backfield so much, but never makes the stop and then you turn around and ball carrier is 15 yards down the field all due to missed tackles), and to cap it all off, Lee gives zero effort. Against Gate City, the first couple of series were really good for Lee, I was really suprised. If it werent for some missed oppurtunities, Lee would've been up 13-0 right away, but they didnt connect and the next thing you know the score 6-0 in favor of GC, and from then on Lee gave no effort in trying to hang in there at all. Maybe you guys are right, Lee should drop down, maybe they should play in the Cumberland. I think TW could beat them this year. I mean anybody, with the exception of JJ Kelly, could beat them. I really thought Coach Wolfe would turn this team around, but I was wrong. Lee has improved greatly, they just haven't shown anyone how good they can be, and they probably never will. Its going to be the "name" game at Lee until they can find a coach who can say to the parents "shut up and let the kids play and the coaches coach". Until then who knows when a winning team will arive. In baseball and boys basketball, Lee may have found a coach that can do that, but I am waiting to see how long they stay there, or how long they keep sticking to their normal ways. Something that is also funny is that not very many people in Lee care that Lee is the "laughing stock" of southwest virginia, they think the football players do they're best out there and that enrollment drops and traveling are the problem. Well evidently they know nothing about football. I say the enrollment has dropped, just not enough though, and the other problem is the "name game". Look at Lee's JV team and the 8th grade teams and PMS and JMS, you would think their success would carry over to the varsity level, but does it, NO. Lee High FOOTBALL sucks. (i said football, not all sports, but FOOTBAlL). I'm done now, I guess, lol.
  20. Whoa! Why did you mention Lee High in this post. Maybe you are just like lee high, thats why you said it, I see now. Lee High is in a different situation than most teams right now. Different coaches every year, people complaining about travel(stupid imo), not many going out for team anymore, and other things. However, they played a good first half against Va High in which they were down 14-7 and actually had a chance to tie the ballgame up at halftime. VA High was probably suprised to seem Lee passing the ball that much and doing a good job of it, I might add. Thats a lot better than the game against PV, though. So please leave Lee out of this. Its PV and North, not Lee, North, and PV. By the way, I think Powell Valley does have a better team than GC right now. RIGHT NOW I say, that doesnt mean however, that things will change by the time they play each other. Robbins is a really good qb and pv has a pretty solid team. From what I hear both SN and PV played poorly, but like the other poster said they won, thats all that matters. On the ref thing, the same thing happens to a VA team when they go to Tennessee or even Kentucky to play, but yet you dont hear the Tennesse team or Kentucky team complain about it then. Do you hear them? I sure dont, does anyone else hear the other team complain?
  21. How did Lee look? Any better than last season, or the seasons before that. Did any player of Lee's standout as someone to keep an eye on or is it going to be another lousy season once again? I know Wolfe put the wishbone back in this season and changed the defense back to what it used to be. I'm just curious as to how they look and if there might be something good to look forward to this year. Then again its just a scrimmage, and knowing a lot of the players they didnt give much of an effort. I do know the number of players that went out for the team are way down and the size of them is getting smaller each year. Just wondered if there might be any positives from them and what the negatives are, I'm sure there are plenty of negatives.
  22. Try going to www.leecountyvirginia.com, there is a tribute page to Pennington and Jonesville. Pennignton is the only one with the football records, i think. Pennington's link is http://members.tripod.com/~penningtongap/fbstats.html there are records from 1935-1988, some years are missing though. I believe Don Williams provided most of the stats, so you might want to contact him about their record. As for Jonesville's record, i dont have a clue as to what it is. Don Williams may know but i doubt it. Try posting something on the leecounty message board, somebody may know something on there, not sure though. http://s2.excoboard.com/exco/forum.php?forumid=4297&PHPSESSID=42def2288eac93568ef57cced6ff25f3 is the link to it.
  23. Dont worry, I think sooner or later Lee County's rotten and sneaky little school board, will eventually give in. When you mention Lee dont make it sound as if everyone is against moving to the SWD, because thats not true, I myself woould like to see it. Like some have said, it isnt travel that is affecting the academics, its discipline, a drug problem somewhat (mainly goes along with the discipline problem, and others like respect, dedication, and so on. Travel is a pretty big problem that may be a problem later on down the road, but right now I dont see it as a problem. This travel problem could actually be helped by joining the SWD. I have heard Richlands is helping with the football situation, and in other sports somebody on here said that district games would be played on Friday or Saturday, if so that would be fine. Once again like others have said those teams have to travel here. Hey if this 4A system is started sometime soon, then that would solve everyone's problems. I think Lee should go ahead and do it, by staying where they are, is only making things worse. Oh, did you all know the School Board is filing a lawsuit against the VHSL for lost time in class. A study was done by a committee, that committe found that student-athletes at lee high have not met the required 180 days of school. They said that student-athletes have missed 7th period some sixty-times, 6th and 7th around 40, and 5th, 6th, and 7th over 30 times. I could be off a litte, but thats what they basically said, and this brought to the VHSL's attention and they were suppossed to contact Lee on the issue in which to discuss a possible solution, but the VHSL never reported back by the date that was set, so Lee is now going ahead with the lawsuit. I dont know how to respond to this decision, however, I hope that they arent shooting their selves in the foot on this action.
  24. What ever happened to former Lee High baseball star Mikhael Tabor? Tabor went on to play for VA Intermont, and was gaining some intrest from pro scouts his junior year, he graudated this year, I think. I just wondered if anyone knoew anything about him.
  25. I went to mapquest and got some travel times to some teams in the SWD from Lee High: to Hillsville-3hrs 11min, Grundy-2hrs 43min, Bluefield, 2hrs 58min, Richlands-2hrs 25min, Tazewell-2hrs 39min, and in the Highlands its 2hrs 18min to Marion(I truly think its longer than that)and its 1hr 49min to Abingdon. So there would be a lot of long distance traveling if Lee joined the SWD. I know Lee wont have to travel to all these places in the same season, but it still is going to be rough. If in all other sports the district games would be played on Friday or Saturday, they would miss school on Friday. Is that possible to make all the district games on Friday or Saturday? You say that these other schools have to travel to Lee too, but with the exeption of Carroll Co. they dont have other games as far as Lee does.
